For those of you new to this list, I originally posted this list back in 2006 as a way to let my Santa know when I receive my gift without him/her worrying about divulging their identity. The list has gone well in the last two years and I am curious how large it will grow this year since there are around 1000+ participants this year (529 items in 2006, 874 items in 2007). This is a pretty good place to view the gifting as it progresses through the holiday season, so enjoy!

Use this as a central area to record what our Secret Santas sent us. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile so your Secret Santa knows to look on the list for your receipt and reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present!

If your Santa sends you more than one item, just list them all in one listing unless you think it makes more sense to list them separately. Remember to include any comments you want your Secret Santa to know!

I don't know about anyone else, but I generally obsess about whether a package has arrived at it's intended destination. I drive my wife crazy with checking tracking numbers constantly! So it will be nice to see when those gifts are actually received by the giftee (or are they just sitting unclaimed on the neighbor's porch?)

To see how the previous two years of Secret Santa-ing have gone on those year's versions of this list, look at these links:

"2006 List"

I just got back from the Post Office.
The box included no less than 4 (four) games!

The first game I spotted was The Battle for Hill 218.
Next came out Meepile with extra meeples.
Then there were still two more games in wrappings.
The Red Dragon Inn was on my wishlist.
Finally, Raid on St. Nazaire was not on my list, but I was pleasantly surpised with it.
While I am typing this, I'm listening to the Miles Davis cd that my Secret Santa included.

I'm really pleased with the St Nazaire game.
In june I played Paths of Glory for the first time, and I named it my ultimate gaming experience for 2008. Last week Battlestar Galactica took that title. But today, Secret Santa 2008 is declared the winner!

Santa, if you ever come to Belgium, we will drink some Chouffe

A box from Fantasy Flight Games was just sitting there in the kitchen for over a week. I told my wife to take it and wrap it so I wouldn't be tempted. But did she listen to me? Noooo!!! I tried to ignore it, I was doing a good job but last night I snapped. My wife opened the box and made me guess until I couldn't stand it anymore. Well my kids didn't learn a lesson on patience and my wife is to blame.

In any case thanks a whole bunch Secret Santa!

Oh, also in the box which was totally unexpected was Cold War: CIA vs. KGB

Thanks so much Santa for so generously giving TWO games from my wishlist!
Pandemic is THE cooperative game (LOTRings was lame and Shadows Over Camelot
seems to have a disconnect between the mechanics and theme) and there are so many
neat ways to “pimp” this game.

And even getting a SECOND game:

Battlelore Epic Expansion comes just at a perfect time for a game that
has become one of my favorites. I liked playing double-sized BattleCry
(reduced luck factor) and can’t wait to try Epic.

Now, my guessing at your identity:
1. Phrasing and spelling suggests you are American
(or at least from America)
2. Timing of messages suggest Western Hemisphere.
3. Getting 4 inches of snow recently means somewhere in the Northwest.

But that leaves many options; further analysis is warranted.

Thanks so much for giving me so much to look forward to!
You’re a Super Secret Santa!

UPDATE: Pandemic with three players was fun even though we lost
(almost won the second time)
Now snow (in Maryland) along with the inauguration is delaying
opportunities to play Epic Battlelore; can't wait!

Well after a slow start, Santa apologized and said Mrs. Claus got on his case to get his sleigh packed and headed to my house. Not only did I get one of the hottest games this year but Santa was generous enough to throw in Carcassonne: Cult, Siege and Creativity and Fjords as well.

Thank you Santa and thank you Mrs. Claus for getting him off the couch it was worth it and I so appreciate the effort and gifts!

Wow! It was a long trip on those reindeer from Canada to Maryland here in the U.S.A. but it was well worth the wait

Not only did my Secret Santa include this awesome game, but he (or she!) threw in the Saboteur card game from Z-Man and a bag of fun treats (candy and stuff)!

So, my thanks cross the northern border to my Canadian Secret Santa... have a great holiday and a Happy New Year!

Just as I was leaving town on Tuesday I stopped by the post office and picked up my Secret Santa package. I wanted to wait to open it, so I put it in the trunk and headed out. That night my wife and I checked into the hotel and my two kids were going nuts. I was trying to figure out how to keep them occupied and I remembered the package in the trunk. So I pulled it out and let them open it. It was FULL of Christmas goodies. Tons of candy and chocolates. My girls were so excited!

Then they saw the gifts. Of course they wanted to open them for me... I resisted for about ten seconds and then I let them open them. (Remember when you were a kid and you convinced your younger brother to open your gifts that were under the tree before Christmas. "Mom, it wasn't me, I promise. I just walked in and there they were!")

Anyway, Santa sent me my number one most desired game, Race for the Galaxy. I've been dying to get a copy ever since my neighbor moved away and rudely took his copy with him. My wife really enjoys Puerto Rico, so I'm hoping she'll give this a shot.

And if she doesn't, Santa also sent me Race for the Galaxy: The Gathering Storm so I can play solo!

And as if that wasn't enough, Santa also sent me a copy of Tichu. My wife and I really like trick-taking games, so I've been wanting to try this one out for a long time.

Thanks Santa for the great gifts! And thanks for sending them at the perfect time so that my kids had something to do in the hotel room and didn't end up driving my wife and I utterly insane!

I have finally received my Secret Santa gift! But is wasn't without trials and tribulations:

On Dec 11 I received the following taunt:

secret santa wrote:

Oops, wrong holiday.

Ho! Ho! Ho!

You may have been wondering but never fear, a box should arrive for you around the 16th.

JaimeSanta

Just for some comic relief I received an email from StarlitCitidel on Dec 13.

AlisonFromStarlit wrote:

Blaaa Blah,

Your order is ready for pickup at 1531 Derwent Way, they are open mon-fri from 9-3.

Thank you,

Alison
Starlitcitadel.com

This email was terribly confusing as I haven't ordered anything from them in ages. I had several exchanges with Alison over a few days from the 13th to the 16th where she tried to tell me that I hadn't picked up my order of Jamaica that I made in August. I finally convinced her that I had picked it up - for sure. Perhaps I missed out on getting another copy! devil

Anyhow the 15th arrived and no Secret Santa package. The +1 chair of hiding was still in its non-deceptive position.

I wasn't really worried because, of course, because the 15th is before the 16th, but -could- be considered 'around' the 16th by the truly hopeful.

Then the BIG DAY arrived and naturally the +1 chair of hiding was STILL in its non-deceptive position. It seems I'm doomed to wait.

However, I do have the benefit of a watch dog who will notify me of any activity in the yard or street or close neighbourhood.

So, I felt I didn't have to haunt the front window myself. The 17th went by and nothing, then the 18th and NOTHING! We are now, ladies and gentleman, starting leave the vicinity of 'around the 16th'. The dog went off on the letter carrier, the paper deliverer, the tenants, the neighbours beside us, the neighbours children, the people across the street, the cars driving down the street, the garbage truck, my children arriving home, the cats wondering the neighbourhood, the coyote stalking the racoons, the racoons themselves, the skunks, the neighbours dog, the dogs from the street over that like to walk on our street and SUPPOSEDLY THE POSTAL DELIVERY BOYS! And everytime I would run to the window looking for that red postal truck parked out side and sadly it just wasn't there! cry

So imagine my surprise when late in the afternoon, I had to let the dog out for his daily constitutional and spotted the +1 chair of hiding being implemented!

HURRAY!!!!!!! My Secret Santa gift! From StarlitCitidel even, now I understand why I was getting that email. Alison did a good job of fooling me at the expense of making herself look a little disorganized, humphh. "Didn't pick up your order from August!" Really!!!!

But what I don't understand is how that package arrive with out me noticing. Either we have a phantom POSTAL DELIVERY BOY or we have suffered from a catastrophic watchdog failure.

Anyhow, I now have my presents and, sadly, they were wrapped inside that box so they are now under the tree awaiting Christmas day!

THANKS SECRET SANTA FOR THE 3 GIFTS AND A CARD!

UPDATE

I got a game and two expansions: just what I've always wanted. I got Trans Europa and the Vexation expantion. I hadn't even asked for the expansion, but I am well pleased that by SS was thoughtful enough to include it with the base game.

And I got the Saint Petersburg: New Society & Banquet Expansion.

To my Secret Santa: YOU ROCK !!

My Secret Santa rocks!! I came home this afternoon to find a package at my doorstep from the North Pole. I know I should have been good and waited until Christmas to open it, but I just couldn't. I tore into my gift and found not one, not two, not even three, but FOUR wrapped packages! Inside was Zertz, Ultimate Werewolf (The Ultimate Edition), a "I'm not a werewolf" t-shirt, and a Transforming Lumberjack into Werewolf plush toy!

My Secret Santa has inspired me to really try and research my target next year and personalize their gift. He took a lot of time and care and I am extremely grateful. He also included a hand drawn picture of Santa with Christmas wishes. I hope you're not upset Santa, but I did a little digging and I think I know who you are. (Comic books, anyone?) I just wanted to put a name with the best Secret Santa ever. Thank you so much for making my holiday season awesome. Merry Christmas!

After weeks of silence, Santa finally visited my P.O. Box. When I finally got home to open up the box, I find a tidy bundle of 3 wrapped gifts. With 3 different wrapping papers! Ribboned together, and with a lovely silver bow. Festive wrappings, and appropriate for those celebrating Hannukah, as well...very smart to cover your bases, Secret Santa!

First, the card. Secret Santa writes:

Hope this holiday is the best one yet!
From your BGG Secret Santa.
P.S. The return address is borrowed.

Fair cop...I did the same thing with my Wargame Secret Santa target.

Now, the bigest package. This wrapping paper is simply striped. I can justify this one because it's not technically Christmas paper, and my birthday was yesterday. The wrapping is meticulous, pretty much guaranteeing this isn't a bachelor sending me gifts. Good thing this SS has sent to me...I'm a throwback, who does carefully unwrap presents, so I do appreciate the wrapping job. Anyhow, inside is a 3M copy of Win, Place & Show, in exceptional condition! The plastic snap is torn away from the flap, but everything else is in beautiful shape; it appears only gently played after all these years. Even the box is sharp, clean, and undamaged.

Now, I'm intrigued. A used game...not what I was expecting, though I'm really thrilled to get this gem of a horse racing game. Only a "3" on my Wishlist, but there are two more packages to open.

Package #2 is a thin one. Maybe a book of some type? I'm dreaming the big dream, though...perhaps it's the missing countersheet for my copy of Atlantic Wall? It's not a countersheet, but it is a copy of Power Grid: China/Korea

I did just buy myself a copy a couple weeks ago because I really didn't expect SS to pick this one up for me. Plus, it was an easy buy to support my FLGS. I have friends who own Power Grid, so I should be able to parley this, and spread the joy.

I saved package #3 for last. Partly because it was the smallest, and I went from largest down to smallest. But mostly because I kinda already knew what was inside, because I don't have too many games on my Wish or Want Lists with a box of those dimensions. cool

Sure enough, I once again am the owner of Pandemic. I had bought a copy at the most recent Strategicon convention, in September. I wound up selling it at cost to my friend, who travels in from Virginia to attend these conventions; he doesn't have as good access to games as I do (he's not a BGG user). I knew I was collecting Karma Points back then; and they pay off, now!

Finally, a stocking. Stuffed within was a chocolate santa (mmmm...chocolate...) and another gift! Santa peeked at my entire collection, and pulled out stuff I didn't even have on my Wish or Want Lists, but guessed (correctly) that I'd love...a set of Munchkin Dice, plus the liscensed Munchkin Wicked Dice & Bag.

BIG THANKS, SANTA!

Well it may be... Only Santa (and my family) know for sure.

Sorry the postings been late Santa, but it did arrive some time in the last 2 weeks. I've been away. It was in a pile of boxes (internet Christmas), I didn't recognise the sender, so passed to my family to deal. Santa had a difficult time I should think. I'm one of those with a low number of items on the wish list, < 15. Maybe we need to persuade Essen Spiel 2009 to move the dates . I'd just come back from a weeks holiday there with the family. (Stayed Holland CenterParcs and had a blast). So the MPV (miniVan) was full to the roof with new games already. I believe Santa got it right as my eldest was pleased (she had to wrap it) with the gift.

Thanks to you Santa, all of you. I've had so much fun sending mine and reading the tales of others. Sorry mines boring snore, I did battle back halfway across the country last night to get home for Christmas, but the UK is not that big, so not a great challenge, just 5 hours. Keltis

Again - Thanks to the community of Santa's - Generous even in this difficult times. See you all next year.

Christmas has come - Its Keltis (although BBG shows the US version not the Euro version). KeltisKeltisKeltis

Well, I was worried...very worried...we are leaving for a holiday break and today is the last post before we go...when lo and behold! a man comes to the door with a socking great huge parcel!

Inside, safely buried in styropeanuts and absolutely beautifully wrapped with great care and attention, and lots of fancy bows and christmas stars (the wife's comment, in an awed voice: "this can only have been wrapped by a woman!") is an extremely compact heavy game. In the box to be taken on holiday it goes....my fingers desperate to claw away the paper in expectation....Thank you secret Santa from Missouri - I am impressed already!!! You are wonderful - and whoever you are , Happy Holidays, I will post when I have opened your gift on Christmas day!!

My package arrived yesterday. It came from RPGshop in Waukego, WI, which I thought might give a clue to my Secret Santa's identity. However, according to the map search, there are no Milwaukee area bggeeks who are participating in Secret Santa. (What's up with that?) So I still have no clue to Santa's identity.

I also have no clue to the identity of the game. My wife took the package and wrapped the game before I had a chance to see it. All I know is it rattles like it has a lot of bits .

UPDATE:

My gift was Imperial. This was one of my most wanted games. Thanks, Secret Santa!

My Secret Santa has been very nice and has been keeping in touch with me via email. Santa let me know when we would be expecting a package and that there would be 4 wrapped presents inside.

Santa wanted to know if I was going to wait till Christmas and I assured Santa that my family and I would. The picture to the left shows the 4 presents that Santa has sent! One for my daughter, one for my wife, one for me, and one for the Compton family.

Thanks Santa! I will update my post after Christmas when we open them up.

UPDATE TIME!

Secret Santa was very kind and the Compton family received the following gifts!

BUY WORD
Great game for my wife since she likes word games.

Morff
A UNO type card game that my daughter will enjoy.

RA
Excellent game for family to play together since I'm stuck in my wargames that they don't or won't play. LOL

and finally a very cool J. R. R. Tolkien Silmarilion 2009 Calendar!

Thanks Secret Santa!

This week I got a postcard from my Secret Santa. Turns out he's from Nebraska! He told me that my package was on it's way and should arrive shortly before Christmas! He has been taunting me for quite some time now and sent some great mails - although he told me not to open the gifts until Christmas.

Yesterday I received a note in the mail that I had a package at the post office! I rushed to the post office and found a big box that where the sender was Secret Santa! Whoo hoo! Inside there were big surprises, amazing really! Lots of postcards from my Secret Santa, books, not two, not three, but four of them! Two of them with lots of short stories, photos and poems by various students from his University, one with photograps from Nebraska and one baseball book.

And then there are the gifts! Not one, not two, but four wrapped gifts! I can hardly wait for the 24th to open them, this is so great!

Xelforp

p.s. forgot to mention the popcorn cob that was included as well, nice touch!

-----------

It's time for an update!

Turns out there were FIVE games in the box, not four - I didn't get them out of the box until Christmas Eve, but there they were.

In the first box (and biggest) I opened there was Zooloretto - great game I hope (I gave a copy of it to my nephew last xmas and his family likes it so I know we probably will as well).

The next game was Ticket to Ride: Switzerland! Me and my girlfriend love that game and have played countless games of TtR (mostly with the 1910 expansion) and TtR: Europe and TtR: Nordic Countries. Great to have this one in our arsenal too.

And the next one? Mystery Rummy: Jack the Ripper! I thought it was OOP, but there it was! German version, but that's no problem for us (which our Secret Santa had actually made sure of before he sent the games)!

Still not finished - The next game was Ark along with the Ark Extra Mix expansion! Looks great for the family, I hope our girls will enjoy this one as well. Good to know we can play some games during the holidays!

And last but not least: Frank's Zoo. I notice a trend or theme there, with two zoo games and one almost about a zoo!

Me and Hildur were flabbergasted too say the least, we'll have to find some way to get some revenge for all those games our Secret Santa sent us! Good thing that I've found out who it was!!! I know who you are Santa!

Thank you (not so) Secret Santa!

A package arrived yesterday from Starlit Citadel, I eagerly ripped it open to find...a giftwrapped box about the size of a Descent expansion, and a card from Starlit Citadel.

I will be leaving it wrapped until next week.

Thanks Secret Santa

Super Secret Santa has visited my domicile!

I admit to opening my nicely wrapped presents but how could I not on my regular game night? What perfect timing!

I received the extension to my most played and favorite 2-player game of 2006, Mr. Jack, and a little something extra…

Cold War: CIA vs. KGB! Another great 2-player game!

The only clue I have to this SSS's identity is that the box came from Utah. No taunts, no notes, no teases. I don't think I'm up to the challenge of figuring this out with just one clue so I guess they'll remain safely anonymous.

Thanks again Super Secret Santa and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Ryan

Today is the Saturday before Christmas. I think I finally gave up on Secret Santa yesterday. So of course this afternoon a package shows up on my doorstep.

I opened it up to find Swarm of the Marro. Hmmm, strange. Not on my wishlist or my wantlist. In fact, I traded for a copy for my son back in September. On the other hand, he's very excited by the prospect of building bigger maps.

Well, here I've been, bitching about not hearing from my Secret Santa (Sorry!), when I come home not 15 minutes ago from my FLGS after picking up Ticket to Ride: Switzerland for my aunt and find a box on my front porch with Secret Santa written on it in big red marksalot.

The box is from Cardhaus....

(FYI: There's a break here because I couldn't wait to open and punch out one of the games I received. Yes, really. )

......and doesn't say much more than that.

I make the decision "Okay, if they're unwrapped, then they're mine now. If they're wrapped, they go under the tree." (The more astute members of BGG will, at this point, start snickering and looking at their watches, taking silent bets with themselves as to how long I would actually wait to unwrap said gifts if they were indeed wrapped.)

Spoiler (click to reveal)
Ha ha. The joke's on you. Most watches aren't precise to 1/1000ths of a second.

I gingerly open the box and I can see the glimmer of the lights shining off the shrinkwrap. thumbsup

So now the question becomes "Do I really want to do this this close to Christmas?" and the little devil on my shoulder says "You can't do this to me!" and, of course, I relent. After all, he did get me through college calculus and my last job review.

Inside the box, I find:

and

SCORE!! Thank you very much, Secret Santa!
