Having required the populace of BoardGameGeek to cut their collections to a mere 26 games (see http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/38595), Derk was pleased. Not overly pleased, mind you - he was particularly saddened to see Tichu lose out to Settlers of Catan by more than 4:1 - but still, he had met his goal.

But then Derk received a call from Hasbro, who noted that his decree had resulted in an overwhelming supply of their used games entering the secondary market. They had traced the issue to the miserable ranking of many of their games on BGG, and wanted to know what might be done about this issue. At first, Derk had no particular sympathy for their plight. But then the Hasbro representative suggested the possibility of untraceable Swiss bank accounts, and Derk's sympathy soared.

Thus, Derk was inspired to make a second decree - in addition to the 26 games taken before, each BGG user would be required to purchase an additional 26 games - one from the lowest ten ranked games on BGG, one from the next lowest ten, and so on until 25 games had been selected. For the 26th game, any game published by Hasbro or one of the corporations Hasbro had swallowed (Parker Brothers, Milton Bradley, Avalon Hill, Wizards of the Coast, TSR, Selchow & Righter, etc.) can be chosen.

Fortunately, this again is just a theoretical exercise. But if it weren't - which would you pick? For the first 25, please answer the polls below. For the 26th, just add it to the list. Kvetching about having to chose one of the awful games available in a particular set can be added through comments.

(Please note that polls don't always work well in geeklists; if one acts as if you have already answered, when you haven't, just click on "Questions" and make your selection - it should be registered properly.)

(And, an aside - in putting together the poll for this list, I discovered that of the bottom 250 ranked games, 218 are among the first 10,000 games entered on BGG, 22 are among the next 10,000 (ID 10,001-20,000), 9 among the next 10,000 (ID 20,001-30,000), and only 1 has an id 30,001 or higher, among IDs going over 40,500 currently.)

How did the Ungame make into the second set? Joke votes?

The only good thing about that game was that it discouraged bad behavior. "No, I'll be good, just don't send me to the guidance counselor! She'll make me play the UnGame!"

Can I give the Ungame negative votes?

Battleship at least creates tension and mystery. The only mystery with Monopoly is how more games don't result in more tension...the tension that only a pair of hands around someone's neck can provide.

And Uncle Wiggily is an awful name for a game.

I had to add Uncle Wiggly here for sentimental reasons. I was once stuck in a cabin at Lake Arrowhead or Big Bear...I am still not sure which one we were at. The cabin was freezing cold, the heat didn't work, it smelled of paint/stain (giving everyone headaches) and there was no wood for the fireplace.

We found our way into the crawl space under the house, looking for anything that we could burn...we found a bit of old junk and the one thing that burned best and provided the most heat, was Uncle Wiggly. He saved our lives man.

1) It scores higher, the games are being listed in the reverse order on this list, but it looks like you meant 'higher' anyway.

2) The reason it scores higher is that it has far fewer votes than the original and at this end of the ranking tables less votes means a better average rating (around 100 dummy votes are added in for 'balance', each one with a rating of 5.5 or so, much higher than the average rating of most games in this list)

I too had the Pac-Man game as a youngster. Brings back memories of a strange Christmas visiting relatives in Michigan...

Anyway, I vaguely remember that there were large marbles for the Pac-Man to be able to go after the ghosts, and that those marbles messed up the plastic Pac-Man (Pac-Men?) ability to pick up the smaller marbles. Game design flaw.

Some of my marbles were lost before I even got the game home. I don't remember what ever happened to it from there. Was fun tho, so I voted for it, for nostalgia's sake.

Anything but Phase 10.

For some reason my girl cousins like this game, and yet they repeatedly accuse us of playing long boring games! Last game night my cousins and I played Marvel Heroes with 2 new players, and four of my cousins started playing Phase 10 at the same time. We invited one of my cousins to play and she said "No I don't like those long games you play" Then she sat down and played Phase 10! I bet my cousin that we would finish our game first (with 2 new players!) and I was right. Two and a half hours later, we were done and they were still playing!
At one point my cousin came over to watch and when we asked if she was done she said, "No, I've just been skipped for the next 4 turns though, so I have some free time"

What an awful game!

I think Devil Bunny Needs a Ham is a much better game. My kids like Devil Bunny Hates the Earth just because they can gang up on me. We play it with paper punches of frogs to represent the squirrels in the game, because frogs fit the theme just as well and we don't have a squirrel paper punch.

Nice looking bits, but they are too soft (fragile). One of them broke just taking it out of the insert. And, "nice looking" is about all they're good for, because they don't actually fit on the game board itself.

I haven't played Pirateology (above at #12), but it's hard to believe they made a worse game than Dragonology.

My wife plays Skip-Bo a lot. I could have one card left and she could have thirty and still beat me. I had a 1988 Mustang GT stolen from a Pizza Hut parking lot and the Skip-Bo game was in the car. I told her I had the car stolen to get rid of the game...I never did get the car back, or the game.

She still plays the game a lot with her sisters...but I haven't played in a long time.

Trivial Pursuit for me!

Why do Trivia games get such bad press on BGG? Apparently there's not as many geeks as you would think?

I love playing trivia games, but maybe that's because I really enjoy showing off.

I cannot believe the amount of Swedish games that pops up in these lists. Tjuv och Polis is actually a half decent game for children. I have lost my copy and wouldn't mind getting a new one (or rather the same old version that I used to own).

Rocketville actually gets semi-regular play with my gaming group. I have never participated, and I realize a lot of people on this site hate it, but it must have some sort of appeal or they wouldn't continue to suggest it.

Most of the guys at our meetings are not BGG regulars though, and therefore the negative opinions here don't affect (infect?) them.

I actually owned Bibleopoly for a while. I didn't play it, but I read the rules. It has properties like Monopoly, but instead of building hotels, you are trying to be the first to build your church. They have like 4 levels. The thing is you can't actually start your church until you commit an act of charity. (start somebody elses church or buy them a property, or pay their rent, or something) It seemed like it might have been interesting to try. But couldn't talk anybody into it. I almost kept it for the pieces, but wound up taking it back to the goodwill it came from.

On the plus side I will not complain the next time I have to play a game I rate a 6.
