For me, it seems like the best seasons are always in the beginning, the ideas are fresh and the actors are still interested in being in the show and not in their newest movie. But some shows seem to be better towards the end.

So what season was the best for the shows you love?

Please add your own shows!

I've added another geeklist that allows you to share your favorite episodes, located here.

Mystery Science Theater 3000, to me, defied the rules of most shows and actually got better later in the show. I can't say which season was the best, but when it got to Sci-Fi, it seemed like the show was much better.

The creepiest show ever shown on TV.
Season One was spellbinding. Very dark and very funny. Extremely weird and often uncomfortable.

As it went on, it lost steam and became a parody of itself. It started be be weird just for the sake of being weird.

Lots of fun while it lasted, though.

I don't think I've seen Star Trek: the Original Series here yet. The third season was, decidedly, a stinker. I'd have to go with season 2 just because the cast was full at that point. Still, it's better than any of the spinoffs or modern sci-fi shows.

What a frakkin' GREAT show!!! I'm so sad that the very last episode is airing tonight. yuk

I think this show could have gone on a few more years and still have been great. But I guess better to end on a high note and then continue it in a spin-off.

I'd have to say that the only season I didn't care for was the beginning of season 3 when they were on New Caprica. But once they were back in space the show frakkin' rocked again. surprise

As for Alf, I think I like season 1 the best. Not just because Alf was novel at that point, but because he was shown walking around more often (fully, not just from the waist up).

Also, in season 1 he wasn't expected to be anything yet (such as annoying, lovable, talkative) so he was more free to be an alien creature, instead of being just a different-looking version of a typical 80's family member.

Someone already beat me to the punch with The Wire, so I'll add another HBO series that I loved, Deadwood.

For me, Season Three was an excellent capper for the series. Characters had changed, relationships had changed, and suddenly they faced a common nemesis in Hearst, a fascinating and genuinely scary villain. Even though the series came to a premature end (damn you, HBO!), at least it went out in style. (Much like The Wire.)

Season One of Mad Men was impressive...And therein lies the risk of a bad Season Two. Many TV series or movies make the mistake of assuming that more, more, more of whatever made the first round successful will make the second round that much more successful.

Instead, Mad Men took the characters and plot elements in very logical directions, without going over the top. I don't want to spoil the series for anyone who hasn't watched it yet, but the main character went in a direction in Season Two that was initially surprising, but made a helluva lot of sense in hindsight. I'd say the same about the other major characters, too.

granted, there are only two seasons so far, and will most likely only ever be a two-season run, but the first season is king. the songs are hilarious, the banter is top-notch, and the situations just seem to flow better. season two has its moments, but everything seems a little more forced, like the well is getting pretty dry.

Bottom, about two losers, Eddie Hitler and Richie Rich, living together trying to get a girl ("MAJOR jugs!")
Great slapstick violence and over the top humor.
The second series were the greatest ("Holy" is my absolute favorite), closely followed by the third.

When playing a game of chess:
Richie: Now how does the racehorse move again?
Eddie: It's not a racehorse, it's a knight.
Richie: Where's the knight then?
Eddie: Well he must have fallen off.
Richie: He's not much of a knight then, is he?
Eddie: Look, just put it back please.
Richie: All right, all right... And that one's called a rook.
Eddie: Yes.
Richie: Why, does it nest in trees?
Eddie: No, it's a castle.
Richie: But it's called a rook.
Eddie: Yes, some people call it a rook.
Richie: Well which people? Blind ones?
Eddie: [thinks] Yes.
Richie: Oh I see, I see, right. ...But the castle can move, you say?
Eddie: That's right.
Richie: Even though it hasn't got any legs.
Eddie: Yes.
Richie: Pfft, hahaha. It's not very likely, is it Eddie. [holds up a
sausage] And this, this is also a bishop, you say.
Eddie: Yes.
Richie: And he bends sideways.
Eddie: Correct.
Richie: Well, there's no surprise there. Wonder what the Church is coming
to these days. Right, let me get this sorted out. Now the bent
vicar stands next to the queen. [holds up cactus with crown] And
the queen goes in every direction.
Eddie: That's right.
Richie: And they let children play this, you say?

When I occasionally watch the reruns the show seems to be a bit "dated" now -- or maybe I've just matured.

Regardless of the quality of the board game, Lost is my favorite show on television.

I may be in the minority, but the 2nd season is my favorite. I really dug the DHARMA Initiative back story that slowly blossomed, as well as the cool 70's tech hatches. It also introduced my favorite characters, Eko and Ben Linus.

The current season is giving the 2nd's a run for its money - it's been quite the roller coaster!

Star Trek: Deep Space 9

I know I'm the only one who thinks this is the best of the Star Treks, but its because I feel like its actually possible in the world of the future.

Seasons 1 and 2 have the excitement of large river rocks.

Seasons 3 and 4 want to be really super exciting, but don't really make it. There are some incredibly good episodes though.

Season 5 and 6 are incredible, and 7 also has some exceptional moments.

My problem is probably that I don't really like Star Trek, and Deep Space 9 just isn't really Star Trek.

Not Star Trek... BLAKES 7

Hard to believe there is no B7 boardgame. Well, I guess most B7 merchandise is thin on the ground.

Blakes 7 by Dalek creator Terry Nation tried to be a more mature Doctor Who in the late 70's. While I am very much a fan of the show it never really quite made it. It's sets and special effects were worse than Doctor Who of the time, and that was an achievement in itself.

Still, it got better as it went on. I'd say Series 3 is my favourite. They still have the Liberator and there was a bit more quality to the series. Series 4 just kind of dragged on, but what an awesome ending.

I was very taken by this sci-fi oddity when it first came out. My mates were raving about all the usual suspects, Babylon 5, X-files, Friends...

Series 2 is the best by far. Great individual episodes which an underlying story arc. The third season was odd, too short and not enough happened. I lost interest in Series 4.
