Time for some old-fashioned Canadian pride.

This is a list for games desgined by good-old Canucks

Feel free to add -- there must be MANY more.

Or comment if I have games here which do not fit

I know there are other games which have a Canadian connection, but often created by Americans or Europeans.

* NOTE as of March 27, that is the list I have access too, anyone with other insights please let me know I can add, or you can add as well.

I hope this is seen as an interesting and worthwhile resource that brings Canadian designers together in one Geeklist

BIG THANKS to Sean Ross for a designer list

GENERAL OBSERVATIONS (a list based on gut feeling):

Most Successful : Trivial Pursuit

Best game : Crokinole based on longevity, and skill needed

Biggest Surprises : A Game of Thrones and Shadowfist CCGs having a Canadian connection

Hottest games : Interest in Wasabi and Genji both appear high

Canadians like abstracts : Omega Chess, Dragon Chess, Proteus, Micropul and Par-K all VERY good abstract games, in fact Omega might be best Western Chess variant there is.

Not a surprise : We like hockey games

Plus it has been nominated for a Golden Geek.

Wonder what we would get if we combined the two? Lacrosse sticks and hockey skates? Bloody ice no doubt.

Not interested in the full 12 x 12?

A couple of ideas for you:

I'm sure you've encountered a few Scrabble boards in you thrifting adventures that could use new covers.

And if you want to go all crazy with a heavy board, tiles from a hardware store are pretty cheap. And if you don't glue them down to anything they can be rearranged and reused for other games or projects.

If anyone wants to trade for a set in exchange for some unusual dice, I'd be amenable.

10x10 is a normal Checkers (Drafts) board in some countries. I have never seen 12x12. It seems to me it's a waste. 10x10 is already a long way from one side to the other. I think 12x8 or 12x9 would make a good size.

An interesting point. However, as a whole the people who lived in Upper and Lower Canada most likely considered the burning of their homes to involve them. Sir Isaac Brock and Laura Secord (mmmm...chocolate) are considered to be Canadian heroes. Moreover, the study of the War of 1812 is tought in Canadian history classes.

History Geek moment: When the U.S. invaded in 1812, they sent out broadsheets saying that they were not at war with the Canadians, but with the UK.

Really?? You helped forge a nation across the sea by abandoning your homeland? Wolfe may have been English (like all of Canada back then) but I doubt he was "as Canadian" as you are.

Besides, you did not make any claim about the "Canadian-ness" of the protagonists. Just that it was a Canadian event - seeing as it took place in Canada that would seem to be indisputable!

Bloody poms, they like pooh-poohing the colonials so much they sometimes get a little "post-hoc ergo propter hoc" and occasionally just loose the plot in an argument completely. kiss

Actually at that point Canada was for the most part French and Native. It was the Conquest of Quebec by Wolfe and company that set Canada on an English course.
