Yes you may have heard or even own some of these games, but I'm sure there are many you never heard of. I tried to pick out all the best race games that are not well known to most of us or you may find them just intriguing as I did.

Even though this may seem to be a child's game, it does have some tactics to it. Each player controls five "pawns". Movement is determined by playing cards: the first one played determines the pawn you want to move (each pawn is numbered), the next one or two determine the distance. Direction is up to you. Players have to reach the top of the hill first to win. Climbing can be done by landing on the space of another pawn, or by a bit of luck when you land on a secret (unknown) "spell" chit (stairs going up).

A racing game where each player starts with the same hand of cards The game is all about positioning and slipstreaming. When you move, you want to position yourself for a slipstream and also so that other players can't position themselves behind you for the same reason.

With Mario Andretti's name associated with this game, I'm surprised that it doesn't have a much larger following. However, since I'm the only BGGer who is listed as owning this, I'm guessing that it deserves to be on the list of Race Games You Probably Never Heard Of.

It's got a modular track and if you push a button on the box cover, you hear Mario himself saying, "Gentlemen, start your engines!" followed by the sound of an engine revving. What's not to love?

I should actually play this sometime.

In the basic game, players are given 12 cards (each with a number on from 1-12) and they shuffle them and place them face down. Each player turns a card over in turn and moves that many spaces - there are overtaking areas and opportunities to block. The car that reaches the finish first is declared the winner.

The advance level allows for more skill to be involved. Each player has their 12 cards and they choose which one to play. Therefore, you can be more tactical by blocking and attempting overtaking moves. You choose the number of laps, whether pit stops should be used etc. Once all players have used their cards, the process begins again.

Not just managing a Grand Prix team, but racing your cars in a unique and very interesting way - you race sections of the track rather than regular square by square. A french game that does have English rules. Has playing aids and - wait for it - money.
