I've tracked games since 2001, and I've finally hit 4k games played. OK, I'm one game short, but I'll get in a few games in tomorrow. By BGG's count, I've played 553 unique titles, but that counts expansions and whatnot, so it's probably 500 or so. Needless to say, most of them got played once or twice.

So, here are all the games I've played 10+ times, as well as notable games that I've played less often ...

If Shadowfist is on a geeklist, it must be mine. I was playing 100+ games a year for most of the decade, but in the last two years I've fallen to a few dozen games a year. I just don't have to the time for multiple game nights during the week, and I'd rather play boardgames my one night out. (The lack of new expansions over the last year hasn't helped). Still, this game stands out ahead of the rest by a large amount.

Times Played -- 743.

I'm an early adopter (having gotten the chance to play the game at conventions before it was published), and the games still keep coming, a few games here, a few games there. Pretty soon, you are talking real numbers. Amazingly, there are people who have played 5x or 10x as much as I have.

Times Played -- 288 (Counting games logged under the expansion. I just got the 2nd expansion but haven't played it).

Since I just got the expansion sleeved, the odds of my playing this game tomorrow are basically 100%, and if I don't play it then I'll probably be hospitalized or dead. The fact that I got gypped out of the new race expansion should be read into evidence at the sentencing part of the trial.

Back in college, Bridge was my premier game. But I stopped playing for a while; last year I got back into it and started playing seriously again, almost all of the plays logged are within the last 15 months. (Unlike most games, I do log online time, since I'm gaming with people I know but happen to be geographically isolated from). Since I'm logging tournament sessions (mainly), each 'game' is around 3 hours.

RftG is essentially advanced San Juan. San Juan runs out of replay value much faster.

That might explain the problem. I know I refuse to teach race for the galaxy to someone unless we have the full afternoon to try out a few games in a row.

The game looks and feels too complicated due to it being so deep. After 2-3 games a few things start to clip into place and you truly see all the possibilities this game offer.

Can't we all just get along ....
But seriously, San Juan has ~30 different cards. Race (without the expansions) has ~90 different cards. Race also has less formulaic play, since it has a bluffing element (due to simultaneous role selection). So it gets hundred of plays to San Juans "mere" 50 or so.

Raz - Because pretty much everyone hates it. It's common in big money games because they all suck at it (relatively speaking), so no one has a big advantage.

7-card-stud - Because the advantage the experienced player has over the inexperienced player is too great. Bad players don't stick around long enough to make the game profitable.

Omaha (limit) - Because playing limit Omaha well is about 23% as exciting as watching paint dry.

Omaha (pot-limit) - Because pot limit games are confusing to bad players and to inexperienced dealers, leading to the bad players finding something easier to grasp and to card room games moving very slowly.

I've been recording plays since 2002 (with a tiny number recorded before that) and I have 3841 plays. So my numbers are amazingly close to yours. I do have 700 different games played though, probably because I play with Bruce Linsey and Joe Huber, both of whom love playing new games.

As I read this, I'm at 3998 plays. I started logging about 4 years ago. But the difference is that I log online games as long as my opponent is human. I may make a similar geeklist some day!

Started logging in 2004 and am closing in on 6K plays with 5896.

Unique titles stands at 384.

Of course these numbers include expansion plays and online plays (but only against real people).

I would like to dig the expansion stats out sometime and see what the real figure is.

EDIT - Look at us...we mightn't have pecks but hot damn do we have some numbers!
