My Journey Back To CCGs

So, long time CCG player who more or less quit playing any a few years back. I still have a couple hundred (or more) pounds of CCGs laying around in assorted boxes, boosters and cases in my office closet, the biggest obstacle to ever getting that thing cleaned out and organized. I've intended for the last year+ to make a couple decks for each CCG I own just to have them "on standby" for casual gaming, but never got around to it.
That has finally changed.
My goal is to deck-ify a new CCG each week. Aided and abetted by:
John Bowman

who lives in the same town, I thought I would chronicle my rediscovery of the CCGs I own. This geeklist will just be a way for me to organize those session reports.
NOTE: this geeklist should grow roughly weekly as I write more session reports on the CCGs we're (re)playing.
NOTE NOTE: I realize this may not be obvious, but the geeklist items I link to below actually go to the session reports; this is not just a list of the games we're playing.

The classic that started it all, me and Johnny B. each made a couple decks from our collection remnants.

The second CCG "rediscovered" in the last couple weeks. I'm starting to feel CCG fever coming on, oh noes...

The journey continues with a CCG that I think I've previously only played, at most, one time (but may have been just a partial play). The 2p game was okay, but I look forward to trying it 3p.
Note: week three was a little delayed in coming as my kids and I were all ill for a week.

We got in a quickie here as we both already had VS decks built - still sleeved from five years ago.

The journey continues on to the Wild, Weird West, to the town of Gomorra, a wretched den of scum and... wait, wrong game.

One of my favorites from yesteryear, although it is still chugging along. How appropriate that the game's mascot is Ting Ting, from the Dragons faction

62 druid LFG! Ah, we return to Azeroth, if only in cardboard form.

A new game for me, not one I had stashed in the Closet O' Doom, and one of two games played for Week 8.

The other game from Week 8 is something I've been wanting to play for a long time, and for which I have a ton of unopened cards.

One of the great classics for me, still going strong and with a great new base set out.

I'm short on time, so I've dipped into one of the simpler, first generation CCGs for this week's entry.

I try out a "new" game this week... and it is good.
I also produce my first rule summary booklet. I'll be going back and making them for previous games as time permits, as well.

Another quickie this week, probably the least successful of the White Wolf based CCGs.

A good game this week, CoH delivered on gameplay and matching the feel of the MMOG on which it was based.

After some delay, we finally get this on the table... probably for the last time, heh.

Ah, a classic, and one of the greats in the CCG genre. Really had a lot of fun reacquainting myself with the rules for this one and I have tons of cards to dig through - it's like Christmas in October!
Note this week's game was written up as a review instead of a session report, for a little change of pace and to put a little more rules commentary out there.

Looky here, I got me a brand new CCG (well, LCG) and we likes it.

Another oldie, I was actually somewhat pleasantly surprised. The game IS pretty simple, but for what it is, it is not a bad game.

Wow, after being stalled for weeks and weeks, the Journey resumes with this blast from the distant past, what I would call a first-generation Magic clone, although it was actually a little more fun and interesting than I remembered.

A visit back to a solid game that we played quite a bit... and tragedy discovered!

Another quickie while catching up on rules and decks for Spycraft and Jyhad. HP is a great gateway CCG that I need to pick up.

Ah, Jyhad. Victim of sociopolitical climate branding and other changes, still a solid game from Mssr. Garfield. In a slight change from previous entries, I've chosen a pic of one of my favorite CCG cards instead of the card box/back, at left.

Here's a game I only recently learned of and picked up. Yes, I know, the journey will never end if I keep acquiring new games. Sue me.
PS - this game kicks ass splits heads like melons.
PPS - the picture at left is from a tournament poster, not a card image (although, that art might be on a card).

Oh no, my pace has already slacked after the booming January series. Here is a quickie from lunch the other day. A solid, lighter CCG with great art, but how does it compare to Harry Potter?

So, I have a handful of collectible miniature games that I was considering including on the CCG Journey. To clarify, I'm thinking of CMGs that play in a boardgame-like fashion rather than (what I think of as) a traditional miniatures game or wargame, and particularly if there is significant interplay between unit powers, a resource system, "playing" pieces from "hand" rather than starting the game with a fixed assortment of units already in play, etc.
Examples that I would include: - Dreamblade - Navia Dratp
Examples that I probably would not include: - any click game (MageKnight, *clix, etc.) - any credit card / assemble game (Pirates of the Spanish Main, etc.) - tactical mini games (D&D Minis, HeroScape, Mutant Chronicles) - Axis & Allies minis
I ask because I mentioned maybe doing Dreamblade and John gave me flak for it as it's not a CCG, whereas I consider DB and ND to be CCG-like. Since this geeklist has gotten a few thumbs, I figured I'd put it to a vote.

I hope to get back on track soon - I'm aiming to get new CCG entry once or twice a month.
Me, I'd just like to go back to Netrunner for a while. You've inspired me to look to dig out my old decks.
Thanks.

So, did you retire and have the kids grown up and moved out of the house? That would be awesome because then you'd have lots of time to do more of these.
I would so love to delve into dead CCG's but I can totally relate to the whole Time - (Kids + Work + Other chores) = 0.1 thing. Also, every once in a while I visit dacardworld.com or ebay and drool over all the cheap stuff that's out there and then I cry a little when I remember that the shipping cost to Sweden is outrageous. Unfortunately it's impossible to get hold of this kind of stuff over here.

Aside from that, when not playing WoW at work, I'm doing a lot of design/playtesting lately, both on new games and on my Cold War Rummy that's been picked up by Living Worlds Games for publication in 2012. Busy!
