So, now Dominion won the Spiel Des Jahres.

I guess it will generate a wave of games which will share the same "draft" and deck building mechanics - pair of games have already been released.

I'd like to list here the so-called "Sons of Dominion".

Or "Dominionish" games, games with in-game deck building mechanic published after Domimion.

UPDATE: changed sort order to "alphabetical".

All players start with a small set of cards containing money and some victory points, and may each turn play cards from their hand to purchase better cards. The cards available for purchase vary each turn, as they are drawn and displayed 4 at a time from a shuffled pile of various cards. Money cards and victory point cards can always be drawn."

Rune Age is a thematic deck building game. It's Fantasy Flight Game's first foray into the genre.

I'm interested in the fact that it has multiple scenarios, "from an all-out war to determine the victor to a cooperative game experience where players all win or lose together."

http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite.asp?eidm=155...

I seem to remember reading that one was cooperative, one a slug-fest, and another more about trying to complete a goal first (multi-player solitaireish). However, I can't find that article.

In either case, I'm looking forward to deck building FFG-style.

No artwork for this interesting cooperative Dominionish game.

From the game page:
"Haven Town is facing total annihilation at the hands (and teeth) of a horde of monsters from beyond the Shadowrift.

You the heroes must band together to drive them back. To do this, you will need powerful spells, skills, attacks and loot. When the game begins, you are a basic hero; you can explore and fight. Lucky for you, this is a deckbuilding game! You can buy new cards to add to your deck - cards which will define you as an adventurer and complement the strengths of your fellow heroes.

Unlike other deckbuilders, there is constant interaction with your fellow players, as you figure out who will gain which benefit from the limited supply of townsfolk, offer your coin to help construct walls, and seek healing from anyone who's learned such magic.

Shadowrift also features monsters that do not merely sit in play waiting to be slain - If you leave them alone they will rip Haven Town asunder. They'll kill people, break walls, and kick you heroes in the face. Combat with them is intuitive (though frequently painful).

For defeating a monster, heroes gain Heroism, a simple, consistent boost to their power that makes them better at anything they undertake. Since the monsters won't stop coming until the last Shadowrift is sealed or the town has been built into a mighty fortress, you'll need every boost you can take."

Shadowrun: Crossfire includes an obstacle deck, black market deck, race and role cards, scenario cards, augmentation stickers, and personal missions that test a team’s allegiances."

Print & Play dominion clone.

From the game page:
"The Society for Stacking Things on Top of Other Things is a small, fast-playing deck building game for 2-4 players.

Players will build a deck by drafting cards from a communal pool. These cards consist of Action cards and Thing cards.

Players take it in turn to play actions which affect how many cards can be drafted into their deck during their turn. After doing so, they may place a thing card on their personal stack. Once this is done there is a cleanup phase. During this phase players replenish their hands to ready themselves for the next turn.

Players attempt to create the biggest stack of Things. Each Thing is worth points. The first player to 1000+ points whom is able to place the Winner Flag on top of his stack is the winner."

From the game page:
"You are spellbound. As a novice mage leaving the tower for the first time, you thought you were invincible. Taking on evil Baba Yaga the witch was, perhaps, not a good idea. Her hands became a blur, her mouth moved and her spell hit you between the eyes. It was two days before you woke up, four days before you could speak, and seven days before you remembered your name. No whisky was even involved. Some parts of your body have been enlarged – and some shrunk. Shoes are going to be expensive for sometime. The less said about your nose, the better. It is now time to take matters into your own (now quite large) hands.

The Spell de Spiel is hidden in spellbooks scattered throughout the land. Find the books and cast the spell, and you can banish the witch and return to your normal size. However, watch out! The witch is powerful. Maybe the good creatures of the land will come to your aid. Centaurs may gallop, dragons may fly, and even the crusty old librarian could research some dusty tomes. Vampires, for once, are keen to get their teeth into the action. Even the truculent dwarves might arrive in time to help (with their small-man syndrome axes). You need to act now. The witch grows ever stronger. Skeletons and goblin spider-riders are not traditionally known for their sense of humor. Can you recover the spellbooks, defeat the Witch and her allies, and have bards sing your praises for evermore?

It is a time for justice, a time for change, a time for heroes. With big feet. And big noses. Spellbound – the story is yours for the telling...

Spellbound, a co-operative, deck-building game playable in one hour for 1-4 players, is Fragor Games' Spiel 2012 release with 1,000 copies available. (Note: This game is an English language edition due to some of the cards having English text. German rules will be made available with card translations.)"

Uhm... not properly Deck Building, more of "deck-optimisation".

From the game page:
"SPIKE is a game of beach volleyball for two teams of two players. It is played on a square grid board, with a 4x8 court in the centre.

Players move on the grid by playing cards numbered from 1 to 5. The higher the card value, the further they can travel to receive the ball - but also the more inaccurate their pass. Most cards have symbols that allow special actions, e.g. Spike, Dig or Block.

The basic game is played with four preset decks, but in Tournament Mode each player can customise their deck to reflect their strategy and individual playing style by focusing on speed, power, accuracy...

Partners are not allowed to communicate during rallies, except by selecting a Blocking Strategy card that is hidden to their opponents.

As play progresses and points are scored, players remove cards from their decks, resulting in a boost at first as the weaker cards are weeded out, and representing fatigue and predictability in the end-game, where fewer options are available.

The winner is the first team to score 11 points, or 21 in Tournament Mode."

Trick-taking/deck building hybrid, based on the famous inventor.

From the game page:
"A VERY High-Voltage Card Game for 2 to 6 players.

Through clever play of your cards, you win tricks which will bring you more powerful cards to use in future hands. So it's a trick-taking, deck-building hybrid.

The 108 cards in the basic game depict events in the amazing life of the great electrical genius, Nikola Tesla, one of the inventors of our modern age. Following the successes and pitfalls of his life story, each player in this game attempts to accumulate the greatest amount of voltage (victory points) before the deck runs too low.

In keeping with the theme, many aspects of the game are in threes, and victory or defeat is measure in Millions of Volts (A.C., of course).

[CUT]

To better accommodate 5 and 6 players, there is also an expansion deck of 36 cards, including new powers, points, and more. (Coming soon!)"

According to AEG's website, this one will also feature deck building. From the sample cards on the page, it looks to be pretty interactive and complex.

In Thunderstone: Heart of Doom, you had a chance to face Doom's very heart, the eighth Thunderstone, and defeat the ancient evil – but winning that battle had unexpected consequences. It banished Doom, but also freed him to visit other worlds, so you advanced to the next world with him.

Thunderstone Advance, which is fully compatible with all previous Thunderstone offerings, is the next stop in your adventure. In Thunderstone Advance you build your party of heroes to defeat the dreaded Thunderstone Bearers in their dungeons or wilderness. The player who defeats the most valuable monsters will win the day, but beware – those monsters have all-new tricks up their sleeves, and victory will not come easy.

Thunderstone Advance includes new rules, all new cards in new card frames, and a new village and dungeon board.

Second expansion for Thunderstone! Unlike the Dominion or Tanto Cuore expansions, these are not stand-alone games.
