The Sacramento Board Game Meetup group has started a second weekly game night at a local game store, Great Escape Games. Yesterday was the inaugural session for our Thursday night game gathering. We had about 12 in attendance.

Here's a list of the games that I saw played. I may not have gotten all of them. Feel free to add the ones I missed, and details for the ones I saw but did not participate in.

Played by Jeff W., Daron, Paul, Michael, and I. We had a group of five and settled on this game, a favorite of my son's. I lagged early, built the bottom track and caught up, and then lost in the end when I was the only one to lose to the enemy in year 5. Michael won this by going with the defense tracks so that he didn't need to worry about soldiers.

I saw this being played by D.K. and others. They were using this recent version published by Fantasy Flight Games.

After finishing Kingsburg, we couldn't decide what to play. Jeff suggested we each pick a game. Then, each of us except Jeff eliminated a game, and this was left. Jeff was the only newcomer to this game. Daron managed to accumulate 4 jesters, and rode them to victory, scoring a work with a value of 29 in the last turn. I did fairly well, managing to fulfill two prestige cards for 12 points, but lost my 5 to Daron.

I use that method a lot, when there isn't a clear consensus on what to play.

I'm surprised it isn't more widespread. It has quickly got my groups back into a game.

I'm glad the new meetup night/locale is off to a solid start. I'll be starting a contract in Roseville (my first work in 7 months :D), and once get settled in, hope to try this out-it *is* easier then Midtown. Thanks for keeping us informed :d

I only stayed for a short while (played Cosmic Encounter) but I liked the new location. There is much more room than the old back room at Great Escape's former location. I believe two of the tables were being used for CCGs, and maybe three or four tables were set up for miniature games, yet there was still plenty of room for board games. Temperature was not the issue I thought it would be, however Thursday night was not as hot as it usually is in July.
