There were about 20 people in attendance at our weekly gathering at Crepeville in Midtown Sacramento. I attended for a second week in a row, primarily because I had invited an acquaintance from So. Cal. who was in town on a vacation.

Here's the games I played and a few I remember seeing others play. I'm not sure I remember all of them, so please add anything you played that I missed. Comments about the games you played are welcome as well.

For more information about our group, please visit the Sacramento Board Game Meetup web site.

Steph, Don, Connie, and others were playing this when I arrived. I'm pretty sure they were using expansions, but I'm not sure which ones.

D.K. brought this and was setting up to play when I arrived. Unfortunately, I had to pass, because I was not sure what time my acquaintance was arriving, and I did not want to be in the middle of a game when he arrived. Imagine me passing on the chance to play a crayon rail game. Inconceivable!

OK, one time Randy Beaman had to take baths with his brother. So one time his little brother took a potty in the bathtub .....and now Randy Beaman gets to take showers alone. 'K, bye.

One time, OK, see, one time Randy Beaman's little brother ate Pop Rocks and drank a soda at the same time and his head exploded! 'K, bye.

I played Empire Builder and British Rails a LOT back in the day (and was amazed the the BR map was the same size as the US/Canada (no Mexico ) map w/no reference to scale. Also played a combo of the two (with teams and exchangeable money-don't ask).

From this vantage point, I'd say RailRoad Tycoon (or AoS) do this type of economic pickup/deliver a LOT better than crayon rails. Empire Builder would typically take 3-4 hours. OK then, but now, way too long for what it is (channeling my inner Reapersaurus here....)

Jeff E., Mark, and I joined Jeremy for a play of this fairly new game. The rules are fairly simple, but it definitely has some strategic depth to this. I will probably have to add this to my collection. All except Jeremy were playing for the first time. Here's the scores:

Mark - 49
Kevin - 40
Jeremy - 37
Jeff E. - 30

This IS a great one. Easy to teach and easy to play, but decisions are tougher than they appear. Definitely a new gateway game in my arsenal.

When we were either towards the end of or had finished Finca, I got a call from my acquaintance that he was on the way, so I wanted to play a short game, and suggested this one, one of my favorite fillers. Jeff E., Jeremy, and Mark were all playing for the first time.

Here's the scores:

Jeremy - 52
Kevin - 43
Mark - 43
Jeff E. - 43

When my acquaintance Daniel arrived, I suggested this game, which I know is one of his favorites. We were joined by Jeremy, Connie, and Mark. I got a Night Club for a good price early, putting me in the lead for a good part of the game. However, I petered out at the end, failing to fill my casino and connect my casino and hotel, finishing third.

Here's the scores:
Daniel - 40 + $$
Jeremy - 40
Kevin - 35
Connie - 34
Mark - 32

You are correct. I even know that. I can't believe I got that wrong. I have now edited it to correct it.

Daniel and I were left as the only two looking for a game, so he suggested this one of the 10 days games that I had not played yet. We played two plays. On the second one, we did a trip of 15 days. I won both times.
