This is the traditional weekly thrift and bargain finds list.
These lists may start empty but as always: add your items.
Put in what you consider a bargain, tell us how much you paid and the place you got it from. Bargains can be thrift store finds or any second-hand purchases or discounted boardgames/RPG's bought new. Don't forget to add your encounters with the Thrift Store Irritant Squad™ and any other embellishments in order to make it even more interesting.
Our GeekGuild: The Ancient and Loyal Order of Thrifters. Enter the halls of thriftdom at your own risk. Do mind the stacks of prized games. Don't mention the musty smell and try not to sneeze. Be sure to bow before our King Krazygit I, and pay your due respects to previous Kings EvilTimmy I and Blackwind I. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/193
I was surprised to find this at the local GW. $2.00 in nice condition.
Earlier I went to the Goodwill outlet just as the feeding frenzy had started. I've you've never seen GW outlet when they bring out those bins it's worth seeing from a safe distance. Downright gives that place a negative vibe. The rest of the time, it's quite nice and offers decent finds.
I hardly ever post on these lists anymore and I rarely look at them. I used to post to boast and look to drool and be jealous of what others found. Now I feel that it is mostly a waste of time and I just tell close friends and family what I find. But I felt like posting these so here goes.
I had a grand total of 10 minutes to thrift today - between picking up reeds for my son's clarinet to picking my son up for his lesson - so I decided to make a really quick swoop through Goodwill.
Nothing of particular interest, so I turned to head for the door when I spied this stacked on top of a Titan Rocket box on the shelf under a clothing bin. I knew I wouldn't have time to verify completeness but a quick look showed the board and insterts intact, all 4 dice, 20 stands and an overflowing box of miniatures. I crossed my fingers and headed to the front with my $2.10 (incl. tax) in my hand.
Opening it now, I find that all 92 figures are there and it looks like one spear and one flag staff to be broken but most likely mendable. I have sons who are Risk fans, chess fans and who have also expressed interest in minis....will keep my fingers crossed!
This "C List" game (one I'd only buy to trade/eBay) was the only other find out of 20 something stores. Also seen were 13 Dead End Drive, World of Greyhawk (RPG), Break the Safe (missing half the bits), 3M Big League Baseball ($3 but missing a couple bits) and Spawn. There were a number of what I call "D List" games (ones I'd only buy for parts): Throw 'n Go Jenga, Rumi-Cube, Master Mind, etc...
