When you enjoy something, you must never let logic get too much in the way. Like the villains in all the James Bond movies. Whenever Bond breaks into the complex: 'Ah, Mr. Bond, welcome, come in. Let me show you my entire evil plan and then put you in a death machine that doesn't work'.

This is a list of the most annoying and hilarious logic flaws and stereotypes found in movies. Comments, additions and suggestions welcome!

With the exception of Dune, in Science Fiction, the religious groups are always the nut job extremists with the crazy logic.

Every sword makes a dramatic metallic clangy sound whenever it is waved around--especially if it is cutting nothing but air.

(I was watching Hellboy II last night on cable and was reminded of this pet peeve while the evil prince was practicing his swordfighting moves early on. Is there a single Foley editor who refrains from adding those sound effects?)

Along the same lines, every sword being sheathed or unsheathed will make a dramatic metallic sound, regardless of whether the scabbard is metal or not.

In a movie or show aimed at teens, beauty/strength/good personality/intellect are either mutually exclusive (You know, because people who buy more charisma or strength when they're born have to use intellect as a dump stat, or take more personality drawbacks... And they said you couldn't learn from D&D), or at the most two of those qualities can be present in a person at the same time, so a nice person who suddenly starts looking good will invariably turn into the most arrogant asshole around. This is not true if there are ONLY good looking people around, in which case everyone will also be a member of mensa and champion in some sort of sport, and feed the homeless during their spare time (Except one or two token antagonists), the biggest difference in this case is that some of those kids parents will only give them 10000$ a month without them lifting a finger, instead of the usual 30000$.

As a follow-up to the D&D style character generation used in teen movies, very similar principles apply to almost all movies and shows:

A persons 'niceness' is inversely proportional to:

a) Their intellect, being a genius usually means being a mad genius. being a retard usually means that everybody loves you. If your brain is barely capable of keeping your automatic body functions running, you can expect to have the deepest understanding of humans possible, if you designed a fully functional space craft in fifth grade, for some reason you'll lack the most basic semblance of empathy or mercy.

b) Their looks, if you're a supermodel, you probably feast on the flesh of the innocent in your dark temple. If you look like something usually found under particularly unattractive rocks, chances are you are a friend to all living things, birds come to sing at your feet, misunderstood children achieve live-changing epiphanies when they just glimpse your ugly mug, and criminals repent all their sins. Bonus points if you have a heartrending story of how you became so ugly, ultra bonus points if it involves the death of your wife and about 2.5 children. Of course this won't stop the ignorant townspeople from throwing rocks at you and/or accusing you of any number of crimes. Apparently some advanced alien species makes a hobby out of transplanting medieval societies into twenty-first century suburbs, luckily, a plucky and possibly even sassy heroine will take time out of her busy saving-the-world schedule to teach the fools the evils of lookism (Or whatever newly 'discovered' "-ism" is en vogue at the time the movie or very special episode is made).

c) Their position on the official TV&movie race-scale:
-If you're Asian, you're probably evil incarnate, your blackened soul tarnishes all those around you, unless you're really, really hot or had an operation to look more American, then you teach us about cultural understanding.
-If you're Caucasian, you can go both ways, but mostly your role is to learn a lesson about cultural understanding and shed your foolish preconceptions, unless you happen to live in an all-white world, in which case you're probably so unfathomably good that a tree would start glowing if you'd sanctify it with your pee, but you'd never do that since you're such a damn good person.
-If you're Latino/a, you have a limited number of options, all of which are variations of "loser", in all likelyhood you're a loveable streetwise scoundrel who likes to dance and aspires to become a popstar, otherwise you may be a completely insane, vile criminal who is a danger to everyone within a three mile radius. The only possible legal occupation for you is apparently housemaid or gardener. No matter who or what you are, your wisecracking is peerless, thanks to your entirely non-stereotypical and original personality, you teach us about cultural understanding.
-If you're black or native, jackpot, unless a massive screw-up occured during scriptwriting, you're an angel sent from the heavens, if there is any stain on your squeaky-clean soul, it's an understandable reaction because the man is keeping you down or destroyed the culture of your ancestors. The only way for you to be a bad guy is if you landed in dark-and-edgy-world, but don't fret, the dark-and-edgy-target-group tends to root for the bad guys anyway. Naturally, since you're such a unique and new direction for a black or native character, you blow our minds, thus teaching us about cultural understanding.

d) Any number of imaginary scales, the exception being the Mary-Sue, who is not only the most intelligent, beautiful, strong and friendly character around, but also teaches us about not putting yourself as a completely idealized character in any goddamn book you're writing.

Uh... Guess this turned into kind of a wall of text, but I don't feel like just deleting it now that I've written it. -.-

Whenever I turn on TV at the weekend and they're playing an old adventure-type film it's always the part where there's a thunderstorm and all the native bearers are running around panicing.

The chief native always says to the hero:
"They fear the gods are angry. They will go no futher tonight!"

Like people that live in the rainforest have never seen a thunderstorm before.

Rule changes for tonight's game:-
mbmbmbmbmb
An associate of the hero (though rarely the hero themselves), having been knocked out during a fight, on regaining consciousness will immediately seek to continue combat as though they've been 'un-paused'.

Typically, this will involve attempting to strangle an attending doctor or nurse (who happened to be at their hospital bedside when they awaken) for a full 5 seconds until convinced by the hero (who also happened to be at their bedside) they are in fact amongst friends.

Basic physics is almost unheard of in movies:

- no conservation of momentum: firing a minigun at maximum rate produces many, many pounds of thrust, yet the hero always manages to stand up straight without effort
- forces mysteriously disappear: gigantic spaceships hover over tiny patches of land without rockets or major magnetic or spacetime distortions
- forces mysteriously disappear II: tractor beams always move one ship—what's anchoring the other one?
- no conservation of mass: big bugs grow from tiny eggs to gigantic monsters in a matter of hours without anything to feed them save air

Bad Horror Movies rules:

1. There has to be a black guy. Who dies first.

2. The bad guy is really really tough. He has to be burned, melted and stabbed 1000 times to die.

3. Even though someone gets killed every 5 minutes, the group of heroes WILL get separated.

4. There's the classic cam move. The hero is being chased by some kind of villain. He hides behind a column/tree. The camera is facing him, with the tree/column behind him. He's scared. He peeks by one side of the tree to see if he lost the villain - nothing. When he peeks by the other side, the camera reveals the monster is right there, saying something scary or just growling. -AAAAAHHH- This was also used on Lord of the Rings, with Frodo escaping the Cave Troll.

5. If the villain falls in a river, has a car crash, gets shot and falls, he's not dead.
