Once again I am running this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived to your house.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santas sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present!

I don't know about anyone else, but I generally obsess about whether a package has arrived at it's intended destination. I drive my wife crazy with checking tracking numbers constantly! So it will be nice to see when those gifts are actually received by the giftee (or are they just sitting unclaimed on the neighbor's porch?)

To see how the previous years' editions of this list have gone, look at these links:

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

"2006 List"

Simon's yearly breakdown of games:
**EDIT Just Added** Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2009

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2008

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2007

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2006

[b]New Note (I placed this in the comments section as well): If you have added a "Comment" of your gift receipt, please take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than to place a comment in this section of the receipt of your gift. The actual items being added is how the statistics get accumulated for Simon Hunt's great results list located at http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/49122

A good example of how to make an entry useful for this other list is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

So, today, an atypical package arrived for me. A guy I didn’t know brought a package to the office and it was addressed to me. Inside was the Secret Santa gift, which I promptly opened, (Christmas just isn’t that big of a holiday here), and was very happy to see Pandemic inside. My Santa had also included
and that was supercool! Thanks Santa! I was afraid it’d never get here, but here it is!

Thanks Secret Santa. With the help of a few taunts I knew the time was getting close and when I got home from work today there was a big box waiting for me. Inside were two individually wrapped games one containing:

Cavum

and the other containing

FITS

My daughter is already salivating over playing FITS and I can't wait to get Cavum to the table with my game group.

Thanks Secret Santa!

Christmas is a time of giving. The excitement of spending time attempting to determine the perfect gift. The thrill of watching as they tare into the wrapping paper, ignoring paper cuts and other dangers, ignoring everything with the exception of their surprise.

I got home from a day at work. Another day filled with about four hours of meetings. Meetings are even less fun than you think they could be. I remember we had an intern one year, who learned we were having an off-site all day meeting.. she cheerfully said "Day-O-Fun!!" During the actually Day-O-Fun I looked over at her. Her head was hung low, drinking her 7th or 8th cup of coffee as she stared at the table.

It wasn't quite a day-o-fun but it was a half day-o-fun. But when I get home... what's this I see? A Package? Hmm.... was this one of my gifts for someone else, did I pre-order something and forget it?

I begin opening the package and the first thing I see is the note indicating that its from my BGG Secret Santa. I'm extremely happy. My half-day-o-hell is forgotten. And what's in the box? Endeavor (I would have done more build-up but as its the geek-list item its probably fairly obvious... though it wasn't obvious to me). I went through the excitement stages I mentioned at the beginning of this post. I ignored the perils of cardboard, ignored the cries of a cat begging for food, paid no mind to my wife asking about something about plane tickets... I just knew I had to know what it was.

I had added a number of games trying to give the most wonderful fellow participant secret santa a range of options... I liked that I didn't know what may be picked and was extremely happy to see Endeavor. When I started my wishlist before it grew to the number it did (to help ensure my surprise) one of the first I added was this game.

Thank you very much for providing a reason to go through days-o-hell. I do that so I can pay for the electricity to see the table that my beautiful, beautiful board game is on.

My Secret Santa did request a review (something that I haven't yet tried on this site) but unfortunately I won't have time this year to try the game. I'm heading off to Greece for my honeymoon on the 23rd so as much as I'd like to use the electricity I pay for in the way it is meant to be used, it will have to wait. But its good to have something to look forward to when I'm back.

Thank you for a wonderful gift, excellent taste!

Happy Holidays!
Matt

I'm standing outside in my PJs in the snow this morning waiting for my dog to finish doing her business when I notice that the mail carrier is getting out of her truck and walking up the driveway. She's carrying a package from Canada! I went inside, and warmed up, and then opened the box.

Inside were two games! Stone Age and the Kingsburg Expansion!

I have wanted Stone Age for a long time, I think my wife will like it. Kingsburg is my wife's favorite game, she had no idea there was an expansion and she's excited to try it. Thanks a ton, Santa!

The note with it was wonderful, charming, classy. The collectors item he's held on to for a while and has turned down trade offers for he's selflessly given to me as a gift.
I feel so humble.

Thankyou so much Santa.
I opened the outside box and jumped away with my hand over my mouth and gasping. My wife wondered what was wrong.
My heart is still pumping and my hands are shaking.

THANKYOU SO MUCH SANTA!

Woohoo! Thank you Secret Santa, Sarah and I are both at home today, and couldn't resist opening the package.

Ghost Stories is EXACTLY what we were hoping for. We especially love cooperative games, but always felt like Pandemic was a little repetitive once we had "figured it out". Lord of the Rings coop and Arkham Horror are some of our other favorites, but are just a tad too long to play some evenings.

I suspect this will get a lot of play. I am slowly digesting the rulebook, and I plan to try a solo 'practice' game tomorrow afternoon before we play a full game together tomorrow afternoon. Merry Christmas!

This is my first year doing Secret Santa, but even with my lack of experience I can say my Secret Santa went above and beyond! I received two packages a day apart, the first in the US Mail with Denmark postage. This package included two wrapped items and some candy which I can't read (Haven't tried it yet, but I'm surely curious...) The two packages contained "Coach Ride to Devil's Castle" (translated) and Joe Abercrombie's "The Blade Itself". I'm a sucker for fantasy fiction, and he's been on my radar for a while, just have't gotten a chance to read him yet. I had never heard of the card game before, but the artwork is stunning. I had a chance to read the rules and walk through some turns yesterday, and it looks like a lot of fun. Perfect for my lunch-time group of 6-8 players! Its on slate for today, in fact.

A day later, another package arrived from FunAgainGames, containing Carcasonne and Steam! Wow and wow!

Thank you, Santa, for your generosity! You've sure brightened the season and made my first experience in the BGG Secret Santa a memorable one!

Yesterday I got home after work and the following dialog happened:

Wife: "You got a box from the US... your are not buying games AGAIN, no? angry "
Me: [Poker-face mode on] "Nooooo, not at all! I got into this weird thing called Secret Santa where some unknown geek sends me free games!"
Wife: "But surely you had to spend money to retribute the gift, no? So technically you ARE spending money on games AGAIN angry "
Me: [Upgrade to almost-offended-face] "Noooo... it's as good as you hear it! It's all about generosity, and Christmas' spirit and [...replace with plain bullshit...] whistle "
Wife: [Leaves the room without buying the story]

So, I open the box, and after the classical peanuts I find Tobago, my #1 wished game!! Wow!! I'm about to throw away the box, and something draws my attention... there's something else!! Yes! A copy of No Thanks!! I can't believe it!

Later...

Wife: "Hey, those games look good... when are we playing them?" laugh

Secret Santa... you absolutely ROCK. I enjoyed the taunting, and I'm super-grateful for the games! I'm sure we'll enjoy them!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

I never thought that I would be the victim of a 'SO that stands in the way of BGG Secret Santa cheer.' Oh sure, you read the geeklist, laughing at the poor fools who have their gift dangling in front of them, but are not allowed to open it. Well, its very funny.. until it happens to you! So gather round boys and girls and listen to my sorrowful tale.

Wednesday November 25th

I get a very nice geek mail from Santa saying that
Quote:
The elves are busy toiling away behind locked gates on your gift as I hear you've been a very good geek-ette this year. They are working as fast as the can but refuse to offer anything but perfection, and therefore are taking some extra time with finishing touches.

Yay, a message from Santa! I respond saying that I can be patient (or at least pretend). There are a couple of games on my whishlist that are soon to be released, and any of them would be quite exciting to get.

Then begins a LONG period of (patiently!) waiting.

Thursday December 17

We are headed out of town today to visit Brian's family in New Mexico for the weekend. The first thing I do after getting out of bed is to log onto BGG... when, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a message in my inbox. What could it be? A message from Santa!

Quote:
Ho ho ho! Those finicky elves. All they will say is that your gift is almost finished! They make me so angry sometimes, curse their union...

In the meanwhile, Santa got very worried your main course would not arrive in time for Christmas, so decided to have an appetizer ready in case the elves were still late. A small token of holiday cheer is available at the Time Well Spent warehouse with special instructions for (you) to pick it up. In the meanwhile, Santa's main payload is still dubiously awaiting its finishing touches, but hopefully will arrive soon as well at your doorstep.

Time Well Spent has special instructions to say 'Ho Ho Ho!" when you arrive, if this does not happen, please chastise them for their lack of holiday cheer. Tell them Santa told you to do it.

Oooh!
I have a package waiting at TWS! I have a package waiting at TWS!
We are leaving early this morning. We are leaving early this morning.

I rush to where Brian is and tell him we CANNOT leave yet! He asks why and I say that I have a package at TWS, we need to go pick it up! He, however, does not seem to have his priorities sorted out quite right. I try telling him that Santa sent me a package and that it is not nice to keep Santa waiting, but he does not buy that one either. He thinks Dave does not usually get in until 11 AM and that is way too late. cry

Then I start thinking of devious plans. Hmm, my contacts are giving me a bit of trouble today... do you think he would be suspicious if it took me an hour to put them in? He says he is going to get us cereal for breakfast... 'But', I say, 'wouldn't you rather have... waffles or um... Hm, looks like we don't have enough ingredients. Perhaps we should make a quick run to the store!' Then I tried, 'Hey, there is this nice restaurant down 120th, perhaps we should go there for breakfast.' But all of my pleas are falling on deaf ears.

So here I am, trying to stall while he finishes packing the car. Hm, I usually drive, I could just drive to the TWS warehouse and tell him I am not leaving until Dave shows up! Think that would get me in trouble?

I have one last hope, I have convinced him that we should call, and if Dave is there we can make a (not at all on the way) detour to pick up my game! Wish me luck! I hope Dave has to work early due to the holidays!

If he is not there, then at least I have the nice thought of my present siting (miles and miles away) waiting for me!

Woohoo! Got my Secret Santa parcel today!
Sorry Santa, couldn't resist opening it.
Came all the way from Poland and inside, I quickly discovered:

- a cute little cat finger puppet, green, no name, just a cat.

- a note in which I learnt a bit more about my Santa. And a taylor-made Santa at that! Even calls himself the Anarchist Santa! ninja

Reading on... Wait what?! I haven't been good this year and therefore will not get something from my top10 wants? But...will be getting something else instead PLUS a special gift from his country! Fantastic!

- Opening the wraps, I first recognize A Castle for All Seasons. Great! Not on my top10 wants but had put it as 'love to have' so might as well have been. In fact, this clever Santa must have known that one of my favorite games is Stone Age. This is such a perfect choice. Brilliant.

- Then my eyes turned to the other box. Polish title indeed, and not one I recognize instantly. Hmm, wait, yes, it is!
Mali Powstańcy: Warszawa 1944 aka Little Insurgents

That looks like a very fine game indeed and I can't thank my Santa enough for everything! I'm so chuffed right now, unreal.

I'll keep the games in shrink until Christmas now, I promise. Oh, and if you're reading this, I know you wanted me to take good care of fingercat, rest assured, he/she (haven't figured out yet) is in good hands here.

Thanks again, you're a !!

Today, a beautifully wrapped present has been delivered at our place. It is patiently awaiting its opening under our Christmas tree. I hope its patience will last till Christmas Eve.

Thank you very much already dear Santa for sending us a present all the way from Singapore.

Update: One day later, a gift wrapped parcel was deliverd at our place, also coming from Santa. This time ordered from a more local game store.

Now the two parcels are sitting brotherly next to each other under our tree. Santa informed me that the first parcel contains a game from my wish list and that the second parcel contains a surprise game which ought to appeal to my husband. That is something that makes me VERY curious !

Update 24-12-2009 :
Christmas Eve is when we are allowed to open our presents !

My dear Santa sent me Carcassonne: The City all the way from Singapore. I have been looking for this one for a long time already, but none of the game stores I visit regularly had it in stock. So a big thank you to my Santa for getting us a copy of this rather hard to find game.

But this is not all ! My Santa also got us Blokus 3D because he hopes it will appeal to my husband. And what is more, he could be right. Hubby does not mind a game of regular Blokus every now and then and he is a construction man, so the 3D could be spot on.

Thank you oh so much for everything dear Santa !

Merry Christmas to everyone.

I arrived home today from University to find a package with a return address of the North Pole!

I decided to open the package, and if the games were wrapped, I would wait until Christmas.

THEY WERE NOT : D

First was Pandemic, my first co-op game! : D I'm waiting for the girlfriend to return home on Monday to give this a play.

Also included was Ra, a game I have heard nothing about.

After a quick read through of the rules, it hit the table today. WOW! What a fantastic game that I could have easily overlooked! And the coveted uberplay version to boot! Thanks SO MUCH Secret Santa : D
