Once again I am running this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived to your house.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santas sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present!

I don't know about anyone else, but I generally obsess about whether a package has arrived at it's intended destination. I drive my wife crazy with checking tracking numbers constantly! So it will be nice to see when those gifts are actually received by the giftee (or are they just sitting unclaimed on the neighbor's porch?)

To see how the previous years' editions of this list have gone, look at these links:

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

"2006 List"

Simon's yearly breakdown of games:
**EDIT Just Added** Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2009

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2008

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2007

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2006

[b]New Note (I placed this in the comments section as well): If you have added a "Comment" of your gift receipt, please take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than to place a comment in this section of the receipt of your gift. The actual items being added is how the statistics get accumulated for Simon Hunt's great results list located at http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/49122

A good example of how to make an entry useful for this other list is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

This is my first year participating in Secret Santa, and my experience has been so pleasant delightful that I can confidently say that it will not be my last.

I list my parents address on the Geek because my apartment complex is notoriously bad at getting packages into the hands of their tenants. So, when I stopped at their house after work last week my present was waiting for me.

I was weak, and opened it immediately. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you Secret Santa, I've been eyeing Small World since it's release!

My Santa went above and beyond the call of duty and also got me:

Sleuth

Conclusive proof that it made my Thanksgiving better:

My Secret Santa has delivered (well, through FedEx)!

I opened the box from Boards and Bits and two games were inside:

A brand new copy of Power Grid

and Ticket to Ride: The Dice Expansion

My Santa kept me informed by GM from the time his elves began their hard work until FedEx delivered the package. He/she knew my interest is primarily wargames, but that I do enjoy playing Euros and other games with my wife and family. Tis the season for time with family, so he/she chose two family games that I think are great choices.

Thank you once again for the great gifts!

My colleague dropped of a box at my desk this morning saying "you know there's no Santa Clause, right? Santa's dead." How very Nietzsche of her.

Of course, what brought that on was the return address with "BGG Secret Santa" on it. Already? Last year, I had to wait until a few days before Christmas!

Geekbuddy nycavri asked me if I was going to be patient. Of course not.

Elk Fest revealed itself almost immediately through the packing peanuts. I've been meaning to try this for a long time, especially considering the idea of a boardless dexterity game inspired Venison in part.

Next to it was a red box. It was:

I'm a sucker for dice games and I've heard good things about this one.

I was excited to receive not one, but two games until it occurred to me that the inside of the box seemed half as deep as the box's height. There was another game hidden underneath a secret cardboard panel!

I've heard great things about the expansion--can't wait to see what it adds.

This is a truly fantastic haul. I don't know what I've done to deserve this, but thanks Santa! It's been a real sucky week for me and you just completely brightened it up!

So after some heavy hinting from my SS this week there was a knock on the door this morning and a VERY nicely wrapped parcel from Shire Games arrived. Pretty sure that its a copy of Ghost Stories

Its sitting under the tree as we speak, and I will wait until I have a good opportunity to play it before I unwrap it!

THANK YOU SECRET SANTA!

Fridays mark the official start of the weekend, but at the same time, you still have to go into the work like every other day, in some ways its just another depressing day at the office.

Well today there was a bright star shining brightly above my cubicle, in the form of a giant package from Cool Stuff Inc. Of course I could not wait until Christmas to open this package knowing full well what it was. You see, the contents of this package could potentially be played prior to actual Christmas. I knew my Secret Santa would agree.

Full Inventory:

Ghost Stories (referenced in listing)

Kingsburg: To Forge a Realm

Jambo Expansion

Jambo Expansion 2

I want to thank my Secret Santa from the bottom of my heart. You have gone above and beyond and brought some excitement and warmth to me this holiday season. The games you chose from my extensive wishlist were the ones I wanted the most and will certainly see some playtime over the coming weeks. You are the best. A gentleman and a scholar!

In closing I wanted to add, I was listening to the "Game On" Podcast the other night and Cody said his relatives always ask him what he wants for Christmas, but they always add anything but a board game! I am sure for many of us who are so use to buying presents for ourselves all year, this is the opportunity to get a new board game/s in the form a present from another like mind. I am sure other people here on the geek probably relate. Secret Santa, you made my experience a great one.

Thanks again SS, you're the best!

My present was waiting for me when I got home last night, and while I briefly considered wrapping it and putting it under the tree, I couldn't resist. When I opened the box to find two beautifully wrapped smaller boxes, I felt even guiltier opening them, so I decided to open one and not the other. Of course, I cheated and opened the one whose box size gave no clue as to what it could be. Thank you Santa for Tigris & Euphrates - it is a beautiful game and I can't wait to play it!

As for the other present, it is still wrapped, but I have a pretty good idea what it is - some coal [power plants] for my stocking to remind me I was naughty in opening the first one. coalcoalcoal

There is one remaining mystery however... Santa's note said they hoped the game wasn't "taxing"... could Santa be someone I know? or has Santa just been googling me?

Inside I found my top wanted game!
Railways of the World

I've been thinking long and hard for ages about which is the right flavour train game for me and my gamer buddies, and I'm hoping this is the one. Also, the Eastern US map does just about fit on my table, which was a pleasant surprise.

But not only that... I also got
BANG! Dodge City
which also comes with BANG! High Noon

My friends and I have had great fun playing Bang! and the addition of new characters and cards should make things even better. I also love the fact that there are new rules for 3 and 8 players which I didn't realise.

Well, this is the first time I've ever done the Secret Santa thing and it's been great fun. I loved seeing earlier on in this list how pleased my recipent was with what I sent him. I was glad that my British moolah made a bigger number when turned into US money so that I could get a nice little package ordered.

I'd like to say thanks to my Secret Santa for a generous and great bunch of games. I hope you have a really blessed Christmas time and really enjoy yourself.

I got home today and was greeted by my wife with a package slip, that said I had a package to pick up at the post-office. Sure enough, it was from Ludibay, a site I don't normally use, which just screamed Secret Santa to me. And sure enough, inside was a wrapped game, standard KOSMOS/ DoW box size. So now I just have to wait another 20 days to find out what it actually was.

Thank you Secret Santa!

Update after christmas: It was Vasco da Gama

My terribly generous Secret Santa sent me this ameritrash classic that has long been on my wishlist. He even threw in the nice metal minis that were once available and they've been painted!

OK, so we don't believe in opening Christmas parcels before Christmas. So, when he* turned up with an exciting looking box, I carefully reminded him what the BGG Secret Santa was all about and asked him to peak in the box to check that was what it was. While he was at it I asked him to see if there was any inner wrapping before putting it ready to go under the tree.

Out comes a knife and he says, "Ah, yes, Race for the..."

"Oi!" says I, "That was meant to be a suprise!!"

"Oh," says he, "I thought this was your parcel for *YOUR* target..."

"Humph!" says I, "You might as well open it and we'll play it now then..."

"Oh no!" says he, "You can wait until Christmas, and then you can open and play both of them..."

So now I know I have a super-generous Santa who has sent me a copy of Race for the Crystal (wholly appropriate as I am a crystallographer!) and something else... The suspense is killing me!

Thanks a lot Santa - I'll update this in the new year.

UPDATE: I just had a lovely email from Santa apologising (there really was no need, and please don't give the Elves a hard time, I'm sure it must be very hard for them at this busy time of year). I hope he won't mind me quoting from his email. He says, "To make up for it I'm personally sending you another small gift which I can assure you has been handmade and wrapped by myself to make sure no more of these... errors... occur. Again, I'm terribly sorry that your Christmas surprise was spoilt."

That is a lovely idea Santa and we will be delighted to receive it, but there really was no need. Our Christmas "surprise" certainly wasn't spoilt, I mean, having searched BGG I have found that you could have got us Race for the Summit or Race for the White House, both of which we'd be very happy to try...

UPDATE 2: I had a call from my other half who said he had collected a nice parcel from somewhere near the South Pole (has Santa flown south for the winter?).

I said, "Ooooo! Open it!"

He said, "But what if it hasn't been wrapped?"

I said, "It will have been, Santa promised!"

He said, "It's beautifully wrapped!"

So we're all excited now and looking forward to Christmas Day!

UPDATE 3: Ahhhhhh so it was Race for the GALAXY!!! In fact, not only was it the main game, but also the 1st expansion, The Gathering Storm. AND even better, Santa also personally made us (me?) a copy of Zombie in my Pocket. I had a go at it and won far too easily so re-read the rules and sure enough I was playing it wrong. Will have another go at that as soon as I'm on my own again. Have played Race for the Galaxy twice and he won both, so I'm sure we must be playing that wrong too...

Thanks loads Santa, just what we wanted and the Zombies were a lovely bonus surprise. We really enjoyed BGG-SS this year and we're looking forward to next year already!

FINAL UPDATE: Maybe we weren't playing it wrong after all and now we've played it with the expansion too a couple of times - A new Top 10 game!

* He = my gameplaying, non-BGG other-half...

Today was supposed to be my lazy day, in which I did absolutely nothing unrelated to Dragon Age after a grueling week of papers and exams. But I managed to put pants on long enough to check the mail. I saw that I had two packages: one was the Fantasy Flight sale games I had been expecting, and one was from Boulder Games.

Never having ordered from Boulder, I was pretty sure I knew what was inside. I rushed inside and promptly opened my package. Inside was a Merry Christmas note and a wrapped package.

I really did spend a moment considering whether I should wait until Christmas. After all, Santa did go through all the trouble of having it wrapped. But then I remembered that there was a GAME underneath the wrapping paper, and I tore it open.

I was excited when I saw the Columbia Games logo on the side of the box, but when I realized Santa had gotten me Richard III, I turned into a little boy version of myself. I'm pretty sure I actually jumped for joy.

I've had my eye on this game for a while now, but after hearing about it on the Messy Game Room podcast this week, I knew I HAD to have it. You could not have made a better choice, Santa! I had a strange feeling last night that this was going to be a great Christmas season, and you've helped start it off. Thanks again, and I hope you and yours have just as wonderful a Christmas!

Santa was nice enough to overlook my failings this year and send me a gift anyway. I came home one day to see Space Alert sitting on the counter. The kids were so excited to get a package that they had already opened the box.

I am VERY happy to now own Space Alert. It has been on the top of my wish list for a while, but it has been hard to find at the online stores. I even tried trading for it, but with no luck. I was just going to wait until it was back in stock and pick it up sometime next year. I've been reading the rules and am planning to try out the game this weekend.

Thanks Santa!

Wow. Thanks Santa! I love my presents, I've managed to hold off plipping the parts until I let you know it arrived, but it has chariots and really cool little people - I can't wait to play it.

Thanks too for the Blue Moon expansion, The Terrah, we've recently rediscovered Blue Moon, but I've been losing so maybe a new deck with secret Father Christmas properties will help me out.

The cheery return address of Santa, Candy Cane Lane, Chilly North Pole even had the postman saying Ho Ho Ho as he delivered it to work, much to the amusement of my colleagues.

Thanks again and I hope you and yours have a fabulous Christmas and a great 2010.

Well... my Secret Santa has surprised me with 2 gifts. One arrived in the mail yesterday from the Book Depository. I am waiting to open it but I'm definitely curious! The other is a game which my fiance has hidden away until Christmas. Can't wait to see what Santa sent me.

Thanks!

UPDATE: 12/28

Thank You Secret Santa! Red Dragon Inn is a great game. We've already played it a couple of times. And I love my bonus gift:

This should be an interesting read.

Another year of Secret Santa fabulousness!

Early on, I heard from "D. Dubendorfer", apparently a highly efficient and thoughtful cog in the whirlagig machinery that is Santa's operation. He (she? it?) reminded me to update my wishlist and kept me apprised of my progress with nicement assessment and other milestones of the process.

A few days ago, while out of town, I learned that a package (whew! that niceness assessment had me worried!) was scheduled to arrive . . . yesterday! It was such a delight to pull in from a long drive home and find a big ol' box to welcome me.

As usual, I toyed with the idea of waiting to learn the box's contents, enlisting my children to open it for me and hide the gift away if unwrapped. As usual, this lasted all of about two minutes before I busted in, eyes blazing and anxious to see what was what.

Santa was so good to me! Not only did I get Castle Panic but also Ghost Stories: White Moon!

It is so touchingly generous and also incredibly thoughtful -- I can tell that D. Dubendorfer or his/her/its minion tried to pick things that I'm likely to be able to play and enjoy with my family.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to my Santa! You've added much joy to my holiday season (and to future game-playing experiences for me and my family), and I wish you and yours the very best!

kiss

So this is what I received in the mail-the card was made by Santa's seven year old (didn't know santa had a kid, did you?).

We decided to open them for family game night on the 19th - which was fortuitous as there were two games we played. The boys (3, 3, and 6) played
several times and could have gone on for hours...my wee lad's favorite part was knocking the bear down through the ice...have to work a bit on strategy
The adults played
(which I won having only lost a leg and an arm).

My personal favorite from the pile will have to wait for a club day:

Oh, and finally, the Darth Vader Santa Bobblehead has a prominate place on our mantle! sauron

I'm heading overseas before Xmas and used this as a weak excuse to open my present early

Thank you Santa!

I'm a real fan of Memoir '44 and Battlecry was one of the first games I bought in my adult boardgaming revival.

I'm sure I'll get many hours of fun out of this and that's only talking about putting the stickers on! laugh

I decided to work from home today since I had a day to burn and I wanted to get the tree up so we could decorate it later tonight.

It turned out to be a busy day with package deliveries to my house since I've been doing most of my shopping this year online. I expected to get 3 packages today, so I was surprised to see a FedEx guy show up after getting the 3 I had expected.

The box was from Boards & Bits, who I wasn't familiar with, and it took a minute for me to realize it was my Secret Santa's gift to me! I had my own mini-Christmas morning moment and was giddy with excitement as I opened the box to find:

Stone Age

...and

Race for the Galaxy: The Gathering Storm

THANK YOU, SANTA!!! You were very generous and you really got me in the holiday spirit!!!

p.s. A few friends were quick to ask me if I ever worry that I will spend a good amount of money for my target, but not get a gift in return. I suppose it would be a bummer, but I really do have so much fun shopping and packing up a gift for someone out there who enjoys gaming as much as I do. It's so fun to read through these lists & the Santa emails. I really hope my target enjoys his gift as much I as do mine.
