This geeklist serves as a platform to celebrate the winners of the Love-Spreader of the WeekTM award. This not quite prestigious yet soon-to-be coveted award is handed out on a weekly basis for outstanding acts of love, gentleness, respect, and otherwise positive traits.

The award was started in the 'Feel the Love!' feel-good thread, but is not limited to contributors of this thread.

You are welcome and encouraged to heap praise, thumbs and on the winner. The next award winner will be picked by the current Love-Spreader of the Week.

For all information about the Love Spreader of the Week award, see the awesome wiki.

The Two Truths and a Lie

Quote:
Hmmm... 2 truths and a lie. Toughy.

I'm a little lot accident prone and manage to put myself in awkward or ironic situations. I guess that's why I like boardgames so much. Nothing worse than paper cuts. So let's do that. Here are three events that have happened in the past 15 years, one in junior high, one in high school, and one in college.

1. College: I'm allergic to peanuts and had an allergic reaction at Buckingham palace while I was visiting London and was attended to (originally) by some of the guards who were stationed around the palace. If I weren't going into shock, it would've been so much cooler, but I was semi-lucid for most of it. Thank you NHS for covering students on your health plan.

2. High School: I was on my high school cheer team (a bunch of my football buddies and I joined after football season, so it was cool) and at the state championships, I spectacularly injured myself in my last tumbling pass. Somehow, I managed to hit my landing and make it to my spot for the final pyramid. Not only did we still get second place and qualify for nationals, but the cheer leaders were very consoling. Unfortunately, we couldn't get the photo of my hand in the yearbook.

3. Junior High: I have been knocked unconscious playing badminton. I know, of all the sports that you could possibly get knocked out playing, badminton? I was competing doubles and my partner caught me between the eyes with his racket and it kinda stunned me and I fell and cracked my head on the floor. I guess technically it was the floor that knocked me out, but still. I guess the silver lining is the cut from the racket didn't require stitches.

I have many other amazing injuries/accidents/allergic reactions/embarrassing incidents from getting paralyzed for a couple days playing basketball to smacking a date in the head with a bocce ball (it was in my hand and she walked behind me right as I was about to throw it...I never got a second date). I'll leave it to you to decide which of the three are true and which is false.

Another week has come and gone and it is now my pleasure to announce our newest Love Spreader of the Week.

This is a fellow Canadian, a fellow Eurogame aficionado, and a fellow book lover. But those aren't the reasons he was nominated.

He is frequently (almost religiously) found on the FTL boards, sharing thumbs, thoughts and GG. It is with great pleasure that I bequeath to

Martha is a frequent contributor to FTL. Her avatar reflects the smile she brings to my face when I see her posts, always upbeat and friendly. She is a vegetarian (bravo) and a Dr. Who fan (I'm really going to have to watch one of these shows someday).

Her two truths and a lie:

1. I used to shop at the excellent Circle K store. Why is it excellent? Because it was the very same one that you can see in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

2. I used to play softball in high school and was requested to be the catcher because no one wanted to do it but I was too freaked out by balls flying to my face that I requested to be put in another position. They stuck me in right field.

3. My claim to fame is getting my brother a gig on an MTV show only to find out that both myself and my mom were requested to be on the show as well! And the producer looked exactly like Chris Rock.

Without further adooooooo, welcome to the newest Love Spreader of the Week. coolwhistle

I've had so much fun as love spreader of the week. Thank you again to Andy but now it's time to announce a new Love Spreader of the Week. First though, my two truths and one lie. Yes, I did used to live in San Dimas and shopped at the Circle K that is excellent. I was also on an MTV dating show called "Taildaters" with both my mom and brother. The lie is never playing softball in high school. I ran track and played basketball instead.

So onto the new love spreader of the week. This geek has told me something awesome, he recently shaved/trimmed his beard into a cockamine configuration to enter a beard contest to raise money for a friend who is fighting brain cancer and that beard raised the most money! (please post pic!). He has been here for a while but recently started posting again and I enjoy his posts very much. They bring such smiles and laughter into my life and I hope others can see and enjoy the love he spreads in his posts as much as I do.

Two Truths, One Lie:

1. I once served Dick Vermiel (winning coach of the St. Louis Rams for Super Bowl XXXIV) his breakfast when I was working at a McDonald’s drive-through one sunny Saturday morning.

2. I met Tommy Lasorta (member of the baseball Hall of Fame and World Series Champion in 1995, 1981 and 1988) in the dugout of a National League stadium in the heat of the day prior to the start of an August 1:05pm game.

3. I once had my replica jersey signed by Mario Lemiux (“Super Mario,” winner of the Stanley Cup in 1991, 1992 as a player and 1999 in management) while waiting outside the Igloo after a Penguin’s victory on a snowy January night. ("Scratch my back with a hacksaw!")

Well, we’ve had quite the weekend on BGG – down for nearly all Friday and Saturday. What a way to end my week as LSW

Thanks to all, for making this a great week. I’ve enjoyed the posts and comments. It’s great to have a community like this. I enjoy the FTL forums as they are a way for me to joke and laugh, and get some good stress relief. I’ve had times where I am laughing aloud, looking at my computer, and my wife will ask, “What’s so funny?” How can I put a 15 comment thread in one word? Impossible. That’s for the laughs.

The two truths and one lie? I DID serve Coach Dick Vermiel his breakfast at a McDonald’s drive-thru. I had to ask and he said yes, and he even signed a McDonald’s bag with, “Thanks for the great food, Hobie. Dick Vermiel. ” I have it somewhere in my office. Number two is also true. I DID get to me Tommy Lasorta at a Phillies game in the old Veterans’ Stadium. The funniest was watching him get heckled by – and then heckle back – at the Phillies fans. So, number 3 is the untruth. I always asked for a Penguin’s jersey…even unsigned would be great. However, my parents thought it a great idea to pick up a Blackhawk’s Chris Chelios jersey…ONLY because it was on sale. Ugh.

Onto our new LSW…This was perhaps the hardest part of the job as there are so many great folks on BGG and in the FTL forums…I present to you,

Paul Bradley

I’ve never met an Australian I didn’t get along with right from the start. Maybe it’s a shared snarkey-ness or some other reason. And, I always say in jest that it would be hard for me to live in Australia…as there is a poisonous everything… 8 of the world’s 10 most deadliest snakes, spiders, ants, scorpions, jellyfish, stinging fish – even a poisnous octopus (blue ringed octopus). All of this would drive me to board games, for sure (and would make me inspect my game boxes for hidden creatures).

So, I’ll pass onto Paul the honor of LSW. May he continue to give to the site as he has done through charity auctions and other involvement. And, he’s a Bloom County fan (best comic ever written).

Congrats!

Well it has been a wonderful week full of highs and lows, but through it all has been FTL. It has been a great experience that has made me examine myself and what is important to me. Thank you one and all for making my week so memorable, especially Hobie for choosing me.

My two truths and a lie:
1. Although born in Scotland I have never worn a kilt.
2. When we came out to Australia, we came via Edmonton, Vancouver, San Francisco and Honolulu. My brother and I had toy cap guns that they confiscated at each airport before takeoff, put them on the flight and then handed them to us on arrival.
3. In my late teens (1982) I was invited by the Viscount Cowdray to play for the Midhurst XI (cricket) - the ground we played on was next to a polo ground. On one of our home matches, Prince Charles arrived by helicopter to play in a polo match.

Number 1 was the lie - I was a page boy at my aunt's wedding and I wore a kilt with sporran.

Anyhoo, onto the real business, please welcome the next Love Spreader of the Week:

His posts reflect what FTL is all about: funny, caring, thoughtful, inclusive, welcoming, insightful and tolerant. They always have a positive effect on me and I would love to shake his hand one day and say "Thanks, my friend."

Alright, before we get too emotional here are his 2 truths and a lie:

1. I spent two weeks in Stockholm as a guest of the UN ambassador.

2. I helped rescue an injured mountain climber in Alaska.

3. I got to drive a race car on a closed track in Daytona.

Well it has been a great week and I would like to thank all the wonderful FTLers that allowed me to be their Love Spreader this week.

Here is the answer to the 2T/1L

I have never driven 4 hours for Taco Bell. I was quite the Taco Bell junkie but even I had limits.

As I have mentioned in the thread a few times this week I am indeed a cancer survivor. I had testicular cancer in 2003 which led to Chemo and 2 surgeries. No fun at all but I gained a lot of perspective.

Now onto a cheerier note, this week's love spreader is

Thanks for all your questions

1. There was a doctor who advised my mother to abort me because of her health.
My 1 year older brother was born by caesarean section and I know that the suggestion because of it appeared.
2. I was kicked out of study after 1st grade because of personal conflict with one lecturer.
Actually, I left study after 1st grade because of personal conflict with one lecturer.
3. When I was ~10 years old during holidays I went to the mountains alone, without telling anybody and lost my way for about 2 hours.
Not high mountains (still with a lot of trees) but mountains That wasn't nothing new that we as a children were doing many things without our parents knowledge and I liked to spend some time alone in surroundings. But that once was stupid. I was lost in a part of forest which I didn't know, without any path, but fortunatelly I've found the right direction.

When I started thinking about who I would choose as the next LSW, one of the main things to consider was who was already on that long list of previous love spreaders. I was shocked that Shacky wasn't already on that list. He may not post around the FTL thread as much as some of us do, but if you post something, you can always count on his thumb. This attitude is reflected in his ratio of thumbs given to thumbs received, as well as his tips given to tips received. He's tirelessly and diligently thumbing away like the rest of us, but his quality of quantity approach to posting means he doesn't get the same reward. So have a great week, Shacky, hopefully it sees a few extra incoming thumbs for all the outgoing ones you always give us

Here are Shacky's customary two truths and a lie:

1) I didn't care for The Incredible Hulk, but the Avengers movie is what changed that.
2) I've been on a hidden camera show
3) I once met a TV star and never even knew it

Hello! First of all I would like to thank everyone for the nice week and to Mike for picking me. For my truths and a lie.
1) I didn't care for The Incredible Hulk, but the Avengers movie is what changed that. This is true. I didn't grow up reading the comics so the movies are what introduced me to this fascinating world. The Hulk movies just never did it for me. The Avengers though, I really enjoyed the Hulk
2) I've been on a hidden camera show As far as my knowledge is, this is false. If I was, then I don't know about it.
3) I once met a TV star and never even knew it True. I was at the Seattle Zoo and me Bill Nye the Science Guy. I had never heard of him and when I got home, I turned on the TV and the show that was on was his, and that was my first time seeing it.

Now on to the important part... my successor as Love Spreader of the Week. Time to pass it on.

Congrats Brad!!

And here are his two truths and a lie:
1) I met the Prime Minister of Belgium in 1988.
2) I still own a "whitebox" copy of Dungeons and Dragons.
3) I did not start boardgaming until my junior year in college.

Hey All!

Firstly, thank you all for the kind words, kind thoughts, probing questions and generally being a great group of people! Every day, I log in to catch up with my friends from all over the world. I get to share the love, and send a word of encouragement when things are tough. Despite the sneaky cats and mean mooses...I find that it is hard to stay away too long.

My week has been wonderful. Short week at work, and today, I am having the D&D gang come over to play. I'm currently prepping to send out some games for the museum, and drinking some wonderful Ikea coffee. My wife is watching TV...and all is well with the world.

And...

1) I met the Prime Minister of Belgium in 1988. True statement. In 1987-88 I travelled in Up With People, and international student organization that travels the world, performs community service and puts on a song and dance show. When we arrived in Belgium, we met the Prime Minister and several other government officials to "kick off" our tour.

2) I still own a "whitebox" copy of Dungeons and Dragons. True Statement. I also have all the expansions. I will have to post a pic, just to prove that I have this gem sitting in my gaming stash!

3) I did not start boardgaming until my junior year in college. Not so true, in fact, very false! I started gaming in the 7th grade. The year...well...you'll have to GM me for the answer. I may be old, but I'm not giving up my age quite that easily!

Now on to the important part... my successor as Love Spreader of the Week. Time to pass it on.

See what you can make of the following statements...

- I won a NES cartridge now valued to be worth over $15,000 but accidentally let a friend sell it at a garage sale.

- I've memorized pi to 200 decimal places, just for fun.

- I once visited Philadelphia just long enough to see the steps Rocky ran up, see the Liberty Bell and get a cheesesteak before leaving.

Congrats Dan!! Hope this is the beginning of a great week for ya!

Thank you to everyone who celebrated my week in the spotlight with me! Last week I had a broken bike, a stopped drain and was feeling generally overwhelmed and unlucky. After a week as LSW, well, my bike's up and running better than ever and I'm feeling wonderful. Coincidence? Hmm.

My two truths and a lie:

- I won a NES cartridge now valued to be worth over $15,000 but accidentally let a friend sell it at a garage sale.

True, I'm afraid. I had a gold 1990 Nintendo World Championship cartridge, which one summer I brought to a friend's. At the end of the summer it went into a box, and a few years later my then-fiance wanted me to clean out the room with all the junk in it. I gave the boxes to my friend, only realizing years later what was included in there. I called him and he said he had probably sold it at a garage sale. He wasn't sure, so I held on to hope until someone writing a book about them contacted me and said that the one which had recently sold for over $17,000 had, in fact, been bought at a garage sale in my friend's town.

So I can't pay off half my student loans, but at least I have a story.

- I've memorized pi to 200 decimal places, just for fun.

False. I did memorize it to over 50 when I was 12 just for fun, and then to between 100 and 150 in high school to celebrate pi day (3/14), but never 200.

- I once visited Philadelphia just long enough to see the steps Rocky ran up, see the Liberty Bell and get a cheesesteak before leaving.

True. I had gone to a concert in NJ the night before, and we figured hey, it's not too far away...

But you don't care about any of that! On to my successor!

Well it is that time of the week where someone new gets a whole week of spreading the love just for themselves!

Thank you all so much for the love and support you have shown me not only over the last week but in all the time I've spent here!

Now the big reveal!

1. I have met the Queen. LIE - Many people in my family have met the Queen but I have not, and although she once came to my hometown I have not even seen her.

2. I love Star Wars & anything Star Wars related. If I could I would live in a house built like the Millenium Falcon & have a Star Wars theme running through the entire house. TRUE
- Obviously it would have to be a bigger scale but I seriously cannot think of a better designed house to live in!

3. I won "The Cutest Baby In Bedford" competition when I was 2. TRUE - My mum still has the winning picture

And now the moment you have all been waiting for..... Your New LSW is.....

Most people that fall into this category have already been LSW (and for good reason!) But seeing as Pawel is new he hasn't. Hope you all agree with my decision! Now for his two truths and a lie!

1.I have a degree in psychology
2.Christopher Eccleston is my favorite Dr Who
3.My first board game ever was a Polish re-imaging of Monopoly

Congratulations Andrew

Traditionally Andrew has 3 questions for you, one of which is a lie:
1 I once spent four days with Jervis Johnson.
2 I once negotiated a deal with Christian Petersen.
3 I once had breakfast with Gary Gygax.

As for my 3 questions, I didn't expect it would be so obvious
1.I have a degree in psychology - that's true, psychology in management to be precise, but the psychological topics appealed more to me

2.Christopher Eccleston is my favorite Dr Who - this one's a lie, never watched Dr Who, probably never will, just picked a random actor from wikipedia

3.My first board game ever was a Polish re-imaging of Monopoly - unfortunately true, but I remember having a good time playing it with my mum and friends as a kid

Thank you all again for the honour and congratulations, now go on and celebrate Andrews big week

We set this up during the week and got a lil intro for you all:

Hi Everyone,

I’m Ted Sunhede Fulk. I grew up in northeast Ohio and started gaming with RPGs like D&D, GURPS, Fasa’s Doctor Who RPG, and TSR’s Marvel Super Heroes. I started with board games at the age of 17 or 18 with Illuminati and Fasa’s Battlestar Galactica and Battletech. After high school, I studied music, secondary education and English literature.

Shortly after my last degree, I moved to Prague to teach English at a university. After several years, I moved to Sweden to get married and start a family. My gaming partners are my 3 kids Marek, Miles and Saga.
I work as an English teacher and write textbooks.

My favorite authors are Murakami, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Philip K. Dick. My favorite composers are Dmitri Shostakovich, Alfred Schnittke, George Crumb, Gustav Mahler and Arvo Pärt. My favorite game designers are Martin Wallace and Vlaada Chvatíl.

Two Truths & One Lie
1. I was in a commercial playing trombone for an insurance company celebrating its 76th anniversary.
2. While in Prague, I helped Altar with the English edition of Vlaada Chvatíl’s first game, Arena.
3. My children all have at least one mythical name.

My wife and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary in June. Having been "nomadic" due to jobs since 2002, we are starting to settle in the Greenville- Spartanburg, SC area with our two English Bulldogs, Peaches and Buttons, and our new son who was born on 7/6/2012.

Two truths and a lie

1- Walked to work during the DC Blizzard of '09 and the Blizzard of '10 on my days off because I was "emergency essential"...
2- On August 2 & 3, I will be conducting direct hire interviews for my company. Spreading some real life love and making some people's dream of a job with benefits come true.
3- Ran into Warren Buffet at a steak restaurant in Omaha in 2011.

Due to an avid and dedicated approach of going through the FTL thread, now Nyda can go through out the forums spreading love.

With out further ado, here is Ndya's Bio, the 2 truths, and the 1 lie.

Quote:
I'm a 23 years old student in accounting, I live with my girlfriend and a roomate. I've been playing video games since 1994, started with Keen Commander and Wolfenstein 3D. I've only recently been introduced to board games and fell in love instantly. I've acquired Twilight Struggle, Agricola and Dominion. I spend more time on BGG than everything else going on in my life at the moment! Thanks to everyone for spreading the love and keeping this community real ^^

My 2 thruths and 1 lie:

*I've been to Nicaragua in 2004 and we've been attacked by a local with a machete. He stole all of our stuff and we almost died that day.

*I've played baseball as the pitcher and won multiple tournaments. I later switched to bowling and played on tournament level as well.

*I watched the Titanic when it came out at the movies and I haven't cried.

CONGRATS!!!!

Bio:
I am a literature and composition professor at a small New England college. I live in a house built during the John Adams administration. The house wants to fall over, and I do my best to prop it up. I live with two great dogs--a golden retriever and a yellow lab. My wife of 14 years is a real life Marion Ravenwood. She lets me hang around. We have five good friends who enjoy card and board games.

Here are my 2 truths and a lie:
1. I earned two actor's equity points as Mr. Kraler in an off-broadway production of Ann Frank's "Diary of a Young Girl."

2. As a young lad, I was attacked by two black German shepherd dogs in an alley in south Cairo, Egypt. The book in my backpack was Tim Powers' "Anubis Gates." My surgeon was Serbian and spoke neither English nor Arabic.

3. When I worked as a group living counselor, I taught kids to be unafraid of thunder and lightning by running outside in dangerous storms with them--for a few seconds...

Thanks to everyone for making my week great! It was a lot of fun getting to know this little corner of BGG, and I greatly appreciate the outpouring of thumbs and GG. Oh, and #1 was totally the lie. I came up with that at the last minute, and clearly it wasn't good enough. Or maybe you guys were at my wedding?...

Anyway, for this week I found someone who, for whatever reason, often thumbs my contributions (GL items, etc.). For a while, I thought he might be stalking me, but it's far more likely that he's very generous. He also prides himself on helping out new users, which is always worthy of recognition.

Anyway, say hello to your new Love Spreader Of The Week, Jason Lott!
