What a long, strange trip. I've pretty much been a gamer all my life, but when miar introduced me to BGG in the late summer of 2007, I knew I'd found one of those few www sites I'd stick around on (BUST.com is the most notable other, while fadsites like Myspace & FaceCrack have come & gone).

Today I rated my 200th game. I stick to the BGG ratings guidelines, which are based on how much I want to play something:

Quote:
* 10 - Outstanding. Always want to play and expect this will never change.
* 9 - Excellent game. Always want to play it.
* 8 - Very good game. I like to play. Probably I'll suggest it and will never turn down a game.
* 7 - Good game, usually willing to play.
* 6 - Ok game, some fun or challenge at least, will play sporadically if in the right mood.
* 5 - Average game, slightly boring, take it or leave it.
* 4 - Not so good, it doesn't get me but could be talked into it on occasion.
* 3 - Likely won't play this again although could be convinced. Bad.
* 2 - Extremely annoying game, won't play this ever again.
* 1 - Defies description of a game. You won't catch me dead playing this. Clearly broken.

I further understand this to mean within a context of all other games being available at that moment. So to me, a 10 is the game that, even if all my 9s are available, I'll probably play first. I feel 10 and 1 are the most important--and most overused--ratings. To me a 1 simply cannot be considered a game, based on our common understanding of what that word means. As a result, I have no 1s.

Here then are the 200 games I've rated, from worst to best. Please feel free to add your thoughts, or to tell me I'm full of shit.

Essentially a spot-the-differences puzzle. Notable because I find level 5 (of 6) to be more difficult than level 6. Great fun for kids, and the different levels make handicapping possible.

I think I can safely say this is Rain Man's favourite game. I appreciate that it's complex, and has multiple strategies available. What I don't appreciate is that it rewards AP. Victory can easily go to a player who continuously keeps score, rather than to the one who plays intuitively.
The bribery keeps it from being a 3.

Deep, promising game that gets more than a little lost in the details. About the most cumbersome scoring of any game I've ever played, it was nevertheless interesting trying to suss out how moves would affect the final score. Felt a little like Tigris and Euphrates, but without the satisfaction of screwing opponents. So much to think about I wanted a break from my recreation afterward. 2nd-ugliest board ever. A fine game, but too murky.

Unique card-movement game. Hate the theme, but it works pretty well on a Friday night with street racers roaring up and down Queen Street, just outside our window. (As long as I live I will never understand car people.)
Multiple factors per card make you think about how to ramp up your speed, without losing that card to road conditions.
