Many of us play a lot of games, and with the help of the Geek it is often easy to avoid the worst duds before buying. But I must say I rather rarely nowadays find a game I think is really good. A lot of games are ok, but few are great.

So, what was the latest game that made you go "Wow, this is great!"?

(Yes, I know, this list is very similiar to the "Best to you geeklists". I am bored and didn't feel like waiting ok?)

Just the sheer size of this game and scope, as well as the great job of components and artwork for this game really got me excited when I picked this up a couple days ago. A wonderful remake of a classic and one I'm anxious to try out soon

This game is number 1 ( or 2 depending on the day) for a reason, its really well done!

And its a big hit with the family too, my wife loves it and so do my parents, the bad thing is , the guy that introduced it to me is also my ASL guru , so this is competing for gametime with Purple Heart draw.......

I had read about this and decided it wasn't for me. Then I actually bought and played it, and I can't wait to play again. Even with my misinterpretations of the rules, it was a fascinating experience. Trying to avoid disaster and still win creates an almost unbearable tension. Definitely a brain-burner.

I love the whole cyberpunk megacorp theme which is sadly under represented in boardgames. This game looks great and comes with a ton of cards all with custom art. Just wish I had more opportunities to play it.

This game probably isn't on too many peoples radar yet as it won't be released until sometime in February. I discovered it at the Australian Games Expo last weekend and was fortunate enough to play a game with the designer, Peter Hawes. It was the surprise hit of the Convention for me.

Big wraps to Mike Jackson(Box Cover) and Ben Nelson on their artwork, this is one of the most beautiful and well produced games I have seen. It's an area control game with plenty of interaction as you attack (castles, towns etc) or bribe (bishops, nobles etc) other players pieces. The game play uses a simulaneous planning phase which reduces downtime (most games seemed to take 90-120mins with a table full of new players - can see this being reduced as players learn the game) and has some great catchup mechanisms.

I believe I said "WOW" on many occasions

This game made me go "wow". In fact, its little version, Basic Impetus, made me go so "wow" that i had to buy the full game and that then really made me go"WOW"!!! (three exclamation marks is the maximum a sane brain is supposed to handle, i fear).

It just gets about exactly the right mix of fun and historical plausibility, it takes everything that was good in other mini games and discards the junk, it is easy to understand, plays fast, it provides a solid basic engine and than highlights the special points that make certain units or periods unique. overall, it is the first tabletop ewargame that really made me feel like the word "elegance" might be in order. a few "wows" later i was sure it is.

very well done.

Compliments of Secret Santa.

Have been competitive in two games, soundly thrashed in one, and a clear and unchallenged victor in another.

So which was normal me? Guess I'll have to play again to find out.

To me this game combines many things from more complex games and presents them in a simpler way - and on a pretty board!

Kim Kanger has created a modern classic modelling a modern insurgency war in a playable game. It has political events (without cards, I love CDG so not a criticism), terrorism (structure attacks), torture (harsh interrogation), riots in the streets, forced resettlement and asymmetric warfare at its core design.

Operation Iraqi Freedom anyone? This shows the way to model a modern war in a very playable game.

When I saw the description of the Napoleonic series from Victory Point Games I was very dubious. I doubted that any game of a Napoleonic battle on the Corps level could be anything more than a pointless dice-fest, where there would be no real decisions and victory could usually be traced to a single die-roll. There simply had to be too few units to withstand even a small run of luck.

When I did pick up an inexpensive second-hand copy of Borodino 20, I was very surprised that the game did have a good feel. While I have had games decided by a card, or even a die-roll, I have never seen one that seemed unbelievable. (A standard that many more complex simulations sometimes do not meet.) The paucity of units does not rob the game of the options or the resilience needed for repeated play.

Some people don't believe that pushing cubes around for 4-5 hours could be interesting. I was skeptical for a long time, despite being very interested in finding out more about Die Macher. I got it for my birthday a couple years ago and have played it four times now with the same group (3 and 4 players, one time at full length). Every time I play this I thoroughly enjoy it. The auctions become pretty tense and the more people are playing the less you can predict where things are going. And you are constantly involved, which is the saving grace of a game that runs as long as Die Macher. Almost no downtime, tough choices, scarce resources... Always a great experience, if you're into cubes.

A quick, easy card game with a WOW level of treachery that pulled me in and has made me a huge fan.

I bought this game for my boyfriend as a stocking stuffer last Christmas, and shortly bought myself a copy, too.

Everytime he comes over we play at least 3 games of it and I cannot get enough!

The dynamics are very simple, but the game is so quick and captivating that I keep coming back for more. Absolutely excellent!

This game played very well with 6 players, and maintained a good game pace with little downtime. You can't say that about too many 6-player, non-party games.

I can't wait to play it again.

I love the theme, quick play and components. It feels like election night watching the electoral race for the final battleground states. I like how you pick a campaign strategy by building your campaign deck and then the rest of the game is a tactical fight for those states. I love that I can squeeze the feel of playing 1960 into a lunch hour. (Well, not the first play, but it is getting quicker)
