There were many games played this weekend. The Fresno Gamers hosted a mini con of sorts with visitors coming from Fresno, Visalia, and as far as Los Angeles.

I recorded a few games so here's what I played but anyone else there feel free to add to the list.

Thanks so much to Mark Jackson and New Life Community Church for being great hosts and letting us game into the wee hours for 2 1/2 days.

My first game upon arriving. This game had shrink wrap on it the day before as it was delivered just in time for the Games.

Mark, Rich, Wayne and I sat down. I had done a breif rules read and Mark is extremely skilled at speed reading and explaining through rules. So I handed him the book and explained what I could.

We were able to get to the heart of the game pretty quickly although it was about 3 hours. The rules are just a joy to read and hear read. Plenty of color and great humor for Vlaad.

The game was revolves around three order cards you play each season that become worker placement for building a most excellent dungeon. It has a Euro feel but the theme really shines and it makes for an excellent mix of mechanics and fun.

To compare it to galaxy trucker it feels like you're building a puzzle that's going to get destroyed but in a completely different way. It feels like you have a lot more control and there's no stress of a time crunch mad rush for piece, very orderly and turn based.
Here's a pic at the end of the game.

I taught this to Greg and Cathy. And I must say I must be a really good teacher because they both ended up beating me

I got some good beginning buildings and jumped way out to the lead but something happened I don't know what but I felt like I was sinking into the food needy cycle that you just can't seem to get yourself out of.

Very fun play.

Such a beautiful game. This game was fought hard over. I had fun building up my massive human army. I actually produced all my Siege Engines and spread out the most but I just didn't seem to getting the influence advantage and wasn't picking up any Dragon Runes from Quests and stuff and I had both my heroes completely desert me.

Wayne, despite feeling that I was stacking the deck against him devil, ended up with the victory on Dragon Rune tokens.

This isn't a game for late nights or the AP prone.

Darrell, the Undead
Steve G., the Uthuk (Chaos)
Steve C., Humans
Wayne, Elves

Hey, that's two for two on the Elves now.
It looks real pretty on the table.

I got to meet some new people that came to SGG from LA at this point; Eric Burgess of Boardgame Babylon, Stephanie K., and Chris Johnson. We introduced ourselves and chatted a bit about the podcast and such and decided to play a game. Steph pulled this one out and I was happy to play. I actually have a copy of it myself.

Chris crushed in this game. I was feeling pretty confident about my numbers but I had three wrong guesses and one correct. Totally blew it on one of them. I forgot I could have two pink 6's.

It was great to meet these folks, now friends, and play many games together over the weekend.

Steve G. and Greg W. were willing to play my new acquisition from this Christmas. I went through the rules and they seemed very straightforward so we all gave it a go for our first play.

It's worker placement that works around the theme of building Carson City (really should be Virginia City for anybody familiar with the area). There's also the possibility of a duel happening if somebody wants to contest a space. This is the wild west after all.

Greg W. won by a good margin with the grocery lady two turns in a row. He seemed to like it and thought it was a buy for him.

Stephanie K., Greg T., Winton, and I sat down for a serious game of Brass. Greg was a little rusty but we caught him up and then he proceeded to smoke us. Actually it was a really close game overall all the scores were in the range of 125-110. Great game.

I went Cotton Strategy getting a level 3 down in the Canal and all the 4's in by the end. I also did some quick rail building in the early rail phase. Winton was on an Iron fiend. Steph played very opportunistically. Finally, Greg T. got in two Shipyards and other industry to get the win.

My first chance to play Endeavor and I have to agree, it's one of the best games of 2009.

John and Mike took us through the rules. The game was actually strange because much of the brick was in the Far East and nobody went there so no level 4 buildings got built.

I went militaristic and civ heavy. I was able to get all my techs except brick above the 10 vp level and had a nice long chain of connected bases on the board for the win.

Bombs Dropping on Disneyland made it through about the best.
"My Dear, why do you wear a tie to work" turned into "World War III"

Again Greg W. had some amazing drawings and Jeff had some excellent ones as well. Rich was the ultra disturber of the game Sunday morning.

We squeezed this in at just over an hour before dinner. I didn't really get any of the sweet multipliers and watched everyone pass me up on end game scoring. Steph went with the starvation strategy and hut collection but it didn't win out over Winton and his endless tools or Greg and his huge card collection.

Meanwhile the rest of the Visalia contingent and some others started out on a trip into the secret tomb. John did a great job painting his figures (we need pictures!). I was a bit too worried about the boulder and was the first out of the temple tomb or whatever it is. Tony lost all his treasure getting out of the river. To my amazement every one made it out alive with much more treasure then I except for poor wet and broke Tony.

The fruit rondel works very nicely and both Tony and I gave it a thumbs up. Though my efforts were not completly fruitless (bad pun intended) I came up last. I think Winton won, right Jeff?

Next we took a trip to Woodinvale where we played the web scenario "All Hollows Eve". Joe and Tony were the Zombies, John had Father Joseph, Mike had Rachelle, Matthew had the Sherriff and I had the drifter (I let people chose characters). We (specifically John) found and defeated the Zombie Lord in an average amount of time. We had gas but no one had a fire item to ignite the book with until Mike mentioned we should just shoot the gas. "Of course!", I cried. I had forgotten thats possible. After some discussion of a Mythbusters episode about that not working in real life Matt took a shot with the shotgun but missed. We were down to the last turn but fortunatly Matt's last shoot worked for the win.
This was Mike, John and Matt's first game.

Next the epic Battle of Stalingrad. 8 players. On the German Side, Mark as the overall commander. Wayne on the left, Greg W in the center and me on the right. For the Soviets, Richard as overall commander, Tony on the left, Mike in the center and Matthew on the right. Tony and I fought a bloddy battle in the south. The Germans took and lost and took back the Train Station. Good die rolling early by the Soviets cost the Germans lots of casualties and they were behind most of the game but were able to come back and take the hill in the center and inflict enough casualties at the last minute for a one point win. I think Mark will provide a more detailed after action report.

Played by Mark, Richard and Myself - I think Will has some video of this one.
As I recall Mark ended up Married with 1 child at one point he was in jail with several other inflections.
I was very lucky due to being jailed and insane Richard was able to select my choices and I had run across a mad Jailer who Richard thought it would be fun to have an insane person converse with a mad jailer – this did work in my favor as with my magic skill I was able to determine that the jailer was under a spell and break the spell - he was so grateful he released me.
Richard had some sort of inflection that he was desperately trying to share with the rest of us as I race to get back and claim the win.
On my last encounter I was turned from a man to a woman with the win.
