Nifty little game.

Tough to figure out the strategy after a few plays of "what the heck am I doing?"

Doesn't help that the computer seems to know what's going on!

I think the maximum possible score is around 324 points, but you have to get the right random selection of 19 out of the 27 available tiles. Scores of over 200 are very good, while scores of 100-150 are pretty common.

I wish Kadon would make a buget line of games made of cardboard or plastic rather than the fancy "laser cut" wood. Most of the games they make around $50 and above.

It is hard to consider buying theses games when I can get most of the GIPF series or even Puerto Rico under $25 from online game shops like timewellspent.org.

This is a Java emulator applet for the old Radio Shack Color Computer. There are several 3dTTT games available. I wrote "Fourcube."

Click on the Load button on the bottom left.

Click the BIN tab and then double click on Fourcube. You don't need to use the scroll bar.

Press the space bar to begin the game. You can rotate the board around the vertical axis with the left and right arrow keys. press a number 1-6 to select playing strength. 1 is easy to beat, 6 is near perfect. Use the up and down arrow keys to scroll the cursor through the cells. Press Enter to move in the vacant cell where the cursor is. You can get rid of the cursor by rotating the board.

This is an unfair game; the first player to move has a winning advantage. To compensate, there is the "Faircube option." Press F at the start of a game and the computer will make the first move in a cell which is not a central or corner cell. Or, make such a first move yourself. The first player still has a winning advantage, but the program does not know how to force a win. Level 6 is very strong. If you can beat level 6 under the first move restriction of "Faircube" you should feel proud of yourself.

You can also press D and watch the computer play against itself game after game. You can do this in the middle of a game if you want.

Click [Setup] button on bottom right, click "bin" tab, click "Fourcube" to run the program.

Once in the game:

F for faircube rule, a move that limits 1st player advantage.
1-6 to change the AI strength.
H for help menu.

Yes, but shun them both! Unless you like playing blitz at maximum difficulty level (there appears to be no way to change either from the Xboard interface). The Xboard interface also looks like it was designed 20 years ago, which it probably was.

edit: after looking through some xboard alternatives, I recommend eboard, and the Sjeng chess engine. Sjeng will play some chess variants, such as suicide, Fischer random (aka Chess960) and Crazyhouse. Crazyhouse basically chess with the shogi drop rule, and it's more fun than either, IMHO.

A game similar to Trax but can be played for more than two players.

Play against a human or a robot:
http://www.tantrix.com

You can log in as a guest to check the game out w/o registering.

Interesting game!

Does anyone know if you can play Psyche-Paths / Kaliko with this game? It looks the same?

No, Tantrix is different. Four colors are used instead of three for Kaliko. See the BGG Tantrix page for details. I don't know for sure which game came first.

That's why I bought tantrix originally - it looked something like Kaliko and was much more reasonably priced. There was definitely a "butterfly effect" when my mother bought kaliko at a garage sale, culminating (so far) in Boardspace.net

One of the best games ever made.

Many agree that the theme is extremely light that you feel more like placing color tiles on a grid rather than building a kingdom in a cradle of civilization.

It plays well with 3 players, 4 players and 2 players if played very aggressively.

Download and play a Java version:
http://www.tigrisgame.com/

The computer is mentally challenged 1 on 1 but can be challenging when you play a 4 player game because the computer is super aggressive and unpredictable.

After you practice with the computer, try a PBEM game here on boardgamegeek.com, in the Online Game section.

You can play FREE with "lobbybot" the online computer player. However you have to start from level one and work your way up.

If you wish to play with Doby, offline AI, you have to pay for it. Doby can be played any level.

The inability to play lobbybot at any level frustrated me to buy Doby.

The Zillions website offers a FREE DEMO for download which playes dozens of games well, mostly chess variants, but several other games as well as puzzles. If you want access to the thousands of other games as well as the online play option, you have to fork up some moolah. See a previous comment for the URL.
