This is the traditional weekly thrift and bargain finds list.
These lists may start empty but as always: add your items.
Put in what you consider a bargain, tell us how much you paid and the place you got it from. Bargains can be thrift store finds or any second-hand purchases or discounted boardgames bought new. Don't forget to add your encounters with the Thrift Store Irritant Squad™ and any other embellishments in order to make it even more interesting.
The Weekly Thrift List Wayback Machine The Grand Vizier is maintaining a list of all the weekly thrift lists through time, and will be adding stats and interesting tidbits for each week. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/48522

150 booster packs for Warlord from two different sets (death's Gambit and one other which I can't remember at the moment) As I was paying for everything else the salesman in a desperate bid to just get rid of them said £5 for the lot which I still ummed and ahed over so he lowered it to £4. which was just too cheap for me to resist. (despite it being £4 for over 1500 cards I am never going to use.)
So anyway here is to you Playin' Games. May you rest in peace.
Away with work at the moment so not had chance to check my usual haunts.
I did spot an early Peter Pan edition of Bingo, c.1950's, all complete and in splendid condition. No pictures of the copy I found in the database, so GG for pix and possibly something for the Vintage/Retro department of e-bay.
All complete, charity shop, £1.00.
Edit: picture added to database and changed to the actual item
Wow, a MB game. I didn't think that Rodney Dangerfield would put his name on a board game. The picture on the back of the box was of 4 adults laughing and the drinks on the table looked like Adult drinks.
Oh it was for 2.99 as well. Taped up so don't know if it was complete.
Had my first "Ummmmm, Okay...." moment today. Last night I was checking on some lawn mower tires and like a good thrifter, decided to pull in and see what's on the shelves at Goodwill. I see a Pokemon Master Trainer that wasn't there Monday, so I Yoink! it for $1.99, figuring that even incomplete, I can help some other's out with there copy.
I get home and throw it on the table, forgetting about it in favor of working in the yard.
Today, I decide to count the pieces over lunch, and find it complete (made me happy). However, after counting the pieces, I hear a clunking coming from the (empty) box. I lift the insert and find a copy of.....
Went to Walmart to see if they did have those Marvel Handful Of Heroes ($5.98,) which they did, so I picked up two sets. I saw that they are stocking Heroscape again, and picked up a Heroes Of The Moon Tribe expansion, on impulse.
At the checkout it rang at $5.00, so I went back and checked the prices on all the other HS items (all Wave 9,) but all of them were priced regularly ($10.98.) So I only bought the one.
I don't know why this was cheap, as there was no special indicated or anything. But it's less than 50%, so it's a deal in my book.
I know some folks reported these on super-clearance, but I never saw them. Last year Wave 8 and Wave 9 simply disappeared for a while, and this is the first time I've seen them since (though they might have appeared earlier, I just was not paying attention.) They are definitely no longer stocked at local Toys-R-Us or Target.
Found this at a special Snowline Hospice Thrift Shop location that they're testing out. I think all the pieces are included, but there was no rubber band for the money, so I have to sort through that to make sure it's complete. I was surprised to see an Avalon Hill game in among the copies of Travel Jeopardy and Monopoly. Picked it up for $1.00.
If you can't walk, crawl. If you can't crawl..... well, you know the rest.
Any game is the right game with the right crowd.
I found an unpunched copy of this for $1.99. The cover is damaged but the contents are, for the most part, in very good condition.
When going through the box I found an odd bit that I quickly identified as a pellet from an air gun. What are the odds of finding a war game with battle damage? The pellet damaged a couple of chits from the Union side if you're curious.
So I swung back by Playin' Games one more time only to find they had stayed open a final day in an effort to get rid of as much stuff as possible. To help this they had reduced a whole bunch of stuff to £1.
First up Tamsk for £1. I think it was a demo copy as it is missing 5 rings and 2 black sand timers (I wished I checked thoroughly in shop as they were selling timers for 10P)
