This is the traditional weekly thrift and bargain finds list.
These lists may start empty but as always: add your items.
Put in what you consider a bargain, tell us how much you paid and the place you got it from. Bargains can be thrift store finds or any second-hand purchases or discounted boardgames bought new. Don't forget to add your encounters with the Thrift Store Irritant Squad™ and any other embellishments in order to make it even more interesting.
The Weekly Thrift List Wayback Machine The Grand Vizier is maintaining a list of all the weekly thrift lists through time, and will be adding stats and interesting tidbits for each week. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/48522

Savers $2.39. Complete. Cactus edition. Don't know when I'll play so on trade list for now. I've been checking this one out for a while. Saw it 2 weeks ago priced at $5.99, - too pricey for my thrift habit on a game I'm not familiar with. Looked at the reviews here on BGG thought maybe, but waited. I've been waiting for their Memorial Day 1/2 off "everything" sale. Went in this morning to finally pick it up. Drove there wondering if it was still going to be there. I had left it taped hidden in the puzzles - it was still there and in my hands when I overheard an employee conversation about what was and wasn't on sale. Asked them what they meant - pretty much only clothes were 1/2 off. Asked why not games and exclaimed how I really didn't want to spend $6 on a game only to get it home to find it was missing pieces and how an "everything" sale should be for everything. The one clerk marked the price down 1/2 for me then gave me a coupon for an additional 20% off. I think I've had better luck talking down prices at thrift stores than I have at yard sales and flea markets. Still - this almost made the list of games I shouldn't have let get away: www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/55388
I've cut way back on my thrifting (it turns out that I'm much better at buying games than I am at getting rid of them), but this game was on my "I'll definitely buy it if I find it thrifting" list. Really. And even if it hadn't been, I would have added it on the spot. $3 and in perfect condition.
In Ottawa this weekend there was a gigantic garage sale in the Glebe area. Not a lot of boardgames unfortunately but i found two decent deals.
First in a toy store sidewalk sale, buried under children toys i found the 2004 edition of Axis & Allies, complete and mostly unpunched. Someone probably bought the game, saw the gazillion miniatures and tokens and moderately thick rulebook and then closed the lid, never to be opened again before giving it away...
Until i came and purchased it for a whooping 2$. Even though i don't usually seek wargames this one looked interesting and fun so i'm probably going to keep it for now. It is now in a unpunched state and sorted in a million ziplocs.
The second item i found at the huge garage sale was even more interesting than the first (and might generate some jealousy ) but i was really happy to spot it.
Dusty from years of storage and the box quite battered i did not expect much but the game is complete as far as i can tell, cards a bit scuffed but the island itself is in a really good shape. For 2$ this was quite a bargain considering the prices it goes for now on ebay or others.
I had not played the game when i was younger and only heard about it on the geek but i did not expect such a huge box and it was a pain carrying it all day though totally worth it in the end.
At first i admit i purchased this one with the intention of reselling it with a confortable margin but now i find myself wanting to actually keep it and play it. I guess the Board James review had more of an effect on me than i thought....
Value Village had their 50% off sale today so I picked up this incomplete copy for $1.41. It just has the boards, about 2/3 of the figures and the football token. I'll be using it as a parts copy. If I can find another copy and complete it, I'll eventually give it away.
