It happened two months ago, I just didn't have time and energy to work on the pics, upload them and create this list back then. Now I do.

I had the chance to test some Selecta children's games in order to write some articles about them (articles that are still not asked for since). So I thought I have a wife who likes playing and we have three 'daughters' (girls who are 2-4 years younger than us but they call us mom and dad and we call them our daughters, don't ask), it could make a fine weekend day.
It did, and I also made lots of pics that weekend. This list is mostly about that day, the fun we had, the pics I took and the games we played.

It's not that unusual that I play (try) children's games with adults. For example, Chicken Cha Cha Cha can be really fun after some beer.

From this chicken family of Zoch I have played Pickomino and Sushizock im Gockelwok 17-17 times each, although one can argue if they are children's games or not (especially as the former one even has a junior version released now). Well, my son likes to play... with the game parts...

...and of course, the Zoch bird belongs to him.

But enough of forewords, let's talk about that particular weekend day when these three fine ladies came to our home to play children's games.

First two of them arrived in the early afternoon. Móni is the owner of the game above and the spouse of the guy (Richard) fishing on the left side of the first pic - Richard came as well but he didn't stay too long. Still, he played a bit until then (but not board games). When Móni is at our flat she always plays a lot with our son so it seemed reasonable that she would enjoy children's games.

And Rita has younger brothers and is a math teacher so she seemed to be a good choice for this afternoon as well.

As their arrival was timed so that my son just started his daytime sleep, we started playing the games we couldn't play when he was awake. So we sat down and played Curli Kuller on the ground.
This is a game where you are rolling colored "snakes" into the garden so that they would "eat" flowers - hopefully the colors of your snake, and hopefully leaving the scarecrow alone.

Rita won... And they demanded another play with the game!

Although I previously thought up an order in which we should try the games - the more the better -, I saw that Curli Kuller was a bit too deep water (too childish) for a start so I introduced them to a game that had good reviews at BGG and I have already tried the day before with my wife.
Viva Topo! is like Pachisi with push-your luck and risk estimation, a more tactical experience; it's really fun.

Well, Ágota's mice were always killed fast so she was more playing with the cat than the mice.

They demanded another play immediately, and I started to worry: how many of the games planned are going to be tried? We're running out of time!

As our son was still sleeping I decided to play Razzo Raketo, a game that uses the whole room: although thematically it's about astronauts making space trips,

it's actually a hide and seek game with objects (space ships with your astronaut tokens)

where players close their eyes

and the spaceships are hidden in the room, one by one. Well, a room where a toddler lives provides many hiding places for the brave astronauts.

When I explained the rules everyone said things like Oh my God, but actually it turned out to be a fun game,

with Ágota never finding any hiding spaceships.

Meanwhile my son woke up so from now we played 4-player games; somebody was always taking care of him. We played Monte Rolla which is also a Pachisi-like roll and move game, but with a twist: gravity.

The balls move up the hill and down the hill and when they are kicked, they fall into the river. It might even help in some cases as e.g. in the end they just reach the end space (the sea) more easily this way.

A very short game of Nino Conillo was the next. It's a real no-brainer: this game is for the youngest board gamers so it's just about learning some basic rules and exceptions, rolling the die and doing what the die tells you to do (help the rabbits escape from the rabbit hole).

Of course it's not for adults but it can help the small ones start enjoying board games. Also the rabbits are cute.

The 14th box was opened: Mare Polare is a tactical (still quite luck-based) game of many little ideas thrown together. It's anout inuits fishing and jumping from ice to ice, trying to collect the fish for their secret recipe. It has a tactical element - deciding where to move and which ice tile to move where -,

some shape recognition element (you are trying to find the fish in a bag by touching them),

some memory element (you have to remember the recipe - if you don't, you can check it on the mirror tile).

Finally whoever gets all the fish needed and manages to bring it to the eskimo hut wins.

It's actually a fine brain training that I, the math geek and Rita, the math teacher enjoyed the most. But even my son - just before going to bed - wanted to try it!

Then in the weekend we played this cooperative children's memory game as well. It's about an evil king who burns books (!) and tears up and scatters the last book - a book of fairy tales - in the castle garden.
So the children climb into the garden,

and try to find the pages there.

If they manage to escape from the garden (hopefully with all the pages found) before the King gets back to the entrance, they have won!

I'm not saying I won't play "grown-up games" anymore; I have played many of the more serious fare since. But it was a fine experience and also useful: in some years I know I will happily play this game with my child(ren).
