WBC 2010: The non GenCon convention list, and my 5th year anniversary

I have gone to WBC since 2006. Every year I learn more about managing this convention in terms of time and games, and every year it is more enjoyable for me.
I actually switched gears this year, playing in very few tournaments and playing and being introduced to Ameritrash that was new to me. Here are a few of the highlights.

John Weber introduced this game to me along with my roommate KingPut. I was able to learn this relatively simple area control historical game rather quickly. I didn't say win, just learn. I only played this and Shadow Hunters more than once during the convention.
This is probably my favorite Jason Matthews to date. The historical flavor text and artwork is phenomenal, and the game remind me of a streamlined version of 1960.

I played my first game of Talisman with an expansion set. I liked the game, but my first game seemed to lose steam at the end, simply becoming a race to the finish where I was too far ahead to be caught.

I came in second in March Madness this year, losing badly to Bruce Reiff in the finals. The 97 Minnesota team defeated the 97 North Carolina team. I'm sure Dean Smith would not be happy.
I made a really BONEHEADED move in the semis, replacing my right forward rating of B with my Bench rating of C. In the end, it wouldn't have made any difference; I believe at worst it was an 8 point swing. I learned my lesson well in any case.

I have yet to play Magic. I traded Pacific Typhoon and Octiles for some sets of new decks, then talked the night away with Bobby Tweaks about all aspects of the game while he taught me the very basics.

This is a cute filler dungeon crawl I played with UbaRose.
I feel it may need the expansion; there really wasn't that much tension or competition, and the interaction is limited to choosing the monsters and items to go in the others dungeons. Still, it's a good quick filler. I believe after rules explanations the game took about a half hour if that.

I played this game with Beth Raphael and her group. I won amongst the chaos and arguing over whether someone could retract an offer of taking a $1 in a $20 (was it $20 or more?) by flying under the radar.
I have held the belief for years that someone outside of a regular group can win this game by being quiet and just letting people fight amongst themselves and withhold from trading with certain other players. This game supported my hypothesis.

For those of you that like Epic games that tell a story, watch out for Scorched Earth when it comes out. It is still in the playtesting phase, but it is a Post Apocolyptic game Ala Mad Max with a lot of game play and story potential.
I played maybe a round or two of this, and despite the fact I came in only to fill in for Dan Dolan, the game really excited me. I stepped out because I wanted to play from the very start of the game to truly get the feel of building my character from a motorcycle punk to a SAND GOD. You use different character traits and vehicles to reach individual as well as community goals.
Very nice. I hope to play this rather soon.

This is a goofy end of the night game I played because I was looking to get to the Ballrooms in the hotel and ended up by Bobby Tweaks and Andy Joys rooms.
A very light push your luck filler involving collecting sets of animals.
One of the funnier events of the week was when a random guy came up to the game, grabbed the rules, and just ran off waving the rules in his hands.
We got the rules back.

Got to play Stormseekers wife Bianca in this in a trial tournament. We could not roll suns to save our life, and spent a great time talking rolling and hanging out and meeting new people.
Bianca came in second in the tournament and no plaque. I believe Mr. UglyChickFace is making her a plaque as we speak.

LOVE this game. I played the character that is a cross between the Hobbit and Leonard from the Big Bang Theory.
Near the end of the game, TWO gems that would have won the game were declared fakes. I finally won the game with my character's superior wit.

I was lost, but I liked the game enough to buy it for solo play. I've already begun to collect stray pieces for the "pimping" of the game, buying a circusy colored die and taking a carousel piece from the Bookopoly game I tossed.
Great game play, but be warned: the order cards are played is extremely important. Go after contracts as soon as possible, or end up with two cabbage smelling carnies with no place to perform.

Playing my first game with a BSG fan is a real treat. Apparently I have o watch the series now to get all the flavor text references.

Yet another first for me, and one that I thoroughly enjoyed. I played the out of work Shakespearean actor turned gravedigger Yorick (very Batman-y game with the name connections). I got to scare off bank robbers with my shovel and pump Chtulu with my shotgun. We came THIS close to beating Chthulu, coming 12 hits away. My losing my blessing didn't help, but wasn't the difference.

I guess color and shape matching was a theme this year. A group of us played Beep Beep, and it turned into:
OK, so here are the rules...HEY AL we haven't started yet! Put that down! Oh to hell with it!
We just all started grabbing cards and spreading he deck around in a rather boozy round of games of BEEP BEEP!
I also played a game of Bunte Runde which also had a shape/color matching element to it.
