Carl,Dave, Morgan and I played this saturday. It was me and Carl's second time at the game. I enjoyed it the second time. the auction mechanic is tense and brutal. The monsters really put a random element in the game. I liked it and will play it again.

Eric, Randy and I played a three player version of this Saturday night. There are no posted rules on how to play with more than two so we made some on the fly. For the initiative rolls we opted to drop the lower of the three dies and play with those. In hindsight we think we should have dropped the higher die. We were getting ridiculous spawn points and the board filled up incredibly fast.

I had a heavy hitting passion war band that I thought would do well in this situation. And it did... at first but that may have been more to do with the fact that I was mostly staying out of the fray and letting Eric and Randy duke it out. Once I did jump in it didn't take long for my low life units to die. I took out a lot of enemies with me but not enough.

Eric outlasted both of us and eliminated both of our war bands before anyone got to 6 points.

Maria was a good game, very much in the vein of it's predecessor Friedrich.

The Austrians blew away the French and Prussian main armies early and the game was theirs soon thereafter.

So a Historical result.

4 of 5 first-time players made for a long game, but I think everyone enjoyed it. The 90 minute advertised play time might be feasible for 2 experienced players- add 30 minutes for each additional player.
