Leon Trotsky, a leader of the Bolshevik revolution and early architect of the Soviet state, is deported by Soviet leader Joseph Stalin to Alma-Ata in remote Soviet Central Asia. He lived there in internal exile for a year before being banished from the USSR forever by Stalin. Years later on August 20, 1940, Trotsky fell prey to a Spanish Communist, Ramón Mercader, who fatally wounded him with an ice-ax. Several good games were produced covering this time period of Russian history. Which are your favorites?

Freikorps is a simulation game of a hypothetical invasion of Germany by the Soviet Union's "Red Army of Workers and Peasants" in 1920. The game is for two players, one representing the irresistible forces of proletarian revolution (the Red Player), and the other the (hopefully) impervious alliance of anti-Bolshevist forces that would have been arrayed to oppose such an invasion (the White Player).

Covers the Russo-Polish war of 1920. Lots of fluidity with no Zones of Control and a exploitation phase. Requires some errata.

By August 1919, the British 45th and 46th Battalions, together with over seven river monitors and gunboats mounting up to 9" guns, over 25 aircraft (mostly DH9A bombers) were in place for the final blow on the Red virus known as Bolshevism. By this time, the French and Americans had all left. It was now a British show and one that was destined to leave a bloody nose upon the Reds.

Game scale: A grand strategic game on the Russian Civil War from 1918 to 1922, with each turn being four months, units represent 5 - 15,000 men, while tanks, aircraft, armor cars and armor trains are abstracted amounts. One player plays the Red , the other plays the White Factions (Polish, Kolchak, Denikin etc). The map is divided into zones. The game, designed by Mark Woloshen, designed a game that is used frequently by his students to learn about the complexities of the RCW. Thus, it is focused on how the political influence and control impacted the military events. One cannot win by military means alone. The game relies on activations and recruiting new men to man the armies is of major importance subject the game's political realities!
Unlike other strategic RCW games, this plays in a few hours time.

This is a game not on the entire Russo-Polish war but the climactic 1920 Soviet offensive into Poland which reached all the way to the gates of Warsaw only to be defeated decisively in a climactic battle.

Cossack Revenge depicts the tragic end-point of the White Army's battle against the Bolsheviks. In March 1920, as the White Army retreated to their last escape route, the British, which had supported them with material since 1918, finally committed a battalion of troops to secure the port. At sea, several battleships and the first aircraft carrier provided cover. On shore, the fighting was desperate using all available resources including tanks.
