NOTICE: Due to certain upcoming life circumstances (a baby and grad school) the header for this list will no longer be updated. I have decided to close the list since it is difficult to keep up to date without a running header. For current 2013 Kickstarter Projects please see 2013 Kickstarter Boardgame Projects. Thanks!

[NOTE: This list is for Kickstarter projects only. Please do not post items from other crowdfunding websites here, rather visit the links at the bottom of the header. Thank you]

Over the last year I've noticed several different games by small publishers use Kickstarter as a way to gauge interest and generate pre-order sales. It seems like a great way for small publishers to generate interest and sales.

I am relatively new to Kickstarter and found their search capacity for projects rather frustrating. I'm never sure if I am missing projects I might be interested in or not.

Please list here any Kickstarter projects you come across that are board games or at least board game related. This is intended to help raise awareness to the BGG community about these projects and give us a chance to jump on if we are interested.

EDIT: In order to make this list more useful to people I am asking that if you list an item, when the funding ends please update the entry to reflect whether or not the funding was achieved.

Worzle... The strategic word puzzle!

Link = http://kck.st/s0nTNr

Game = $18

THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $7,800 IS PLEDGED BY FRIDAY DEC 16, 8:35PM EST.

Worzle. The strategic word puzzle game. It’s cute and creative, fast paced and fun, and you might even learn a thing or two along the way. Two to eight players evenly distribute a total of 100 puzzle pieces. Each has a printed letter along with four wild pieces. Begin by placing a puzzle piece on the table. Start the timer. Taking turns, each player adds a piece to the puzzle. How the puzzle expands is up to you. Once every piece has been placed or time runs out, players pick up their pencils. Start the timer again and find as many words as you can. As long as the puzzle pieces are next to each other, any direction goes, however a player may not skip over a void in the puzzle to complete a word. When time runs out, using the Worzle Scoring System, the points are tallied and the player with the most wins!

Family Game Designer has created from Ancient America a FUN card game with a very unique religious perspective.

THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $4,000 IS PLEDGED BY FRIDAY DEC 23, 10:00AM MST.

Introducing Lemonade Stand by Mayday Games!

Did you ever play the old computer game “Lemonade Stand” on the Apple IIe computer? Well we did and we loved it! It was a simple, fun, educational game that really influenced a lot of people growing up in the early 80s. We have been trying for a couple of years to recreate the simplicity yet realistic feel of this classic game. We wanted to recreate this experience in a card game, yet keep the supply and demand calculations and complex math to a minimum. Designer Trevor Cram was able to create what we hope you will agree is a simple, unique game that allows young and old alike to participate in their own business of setting prices, stocking inventory and making advertising decisions. Each of these decisions will affect the profits or losses each player realizes, coupled with external forces like the weather and other players special action cards.

In the end the player with the most money after seven turns will win and become the envy of the other would-be entrepreneurs. This game plays 2-4 players in about 20 minutes and no two games are alike. Will you suffer bad luck from poor weather or will you play too aggressively or conservatively? Find out as you venture back to your wonder years gone by and compete with the other kids on the block to build the best Lemonade Stand.

You can check some higher-resolution pictures and the rules HERE:

Deck of the Living Dead

Link = http://kck.st/umOvf5

Price = $20

THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $22,000 IS PLEDGED BY WEDNESDAY JAN 4, 11:59PM EST.

The cards will come in sets of 2 decks. Each set has a deck with black backs and a deck with corpse green backs. Both decks have the same faces.

The aces are ornate iron cemetery gates. The number cards continue that theme and incorporate the unique suit icons we developed for this deck.

One other feature unique to Bent Castle decks are the X cards. Both this deck and our Pegleg Pete's deck of Royal Rogues have them. They are four extra cards, one for each suit, that can be used as you wish. Use them as wild cards in classic games. Make-up new games. Substitute them for other cards, like 8's - so crazy eights becomes crazy reapers. Or use one as a reveal in your favorite card trick.

Caveman Curling

Link = http://kck.st/tM3Qn3

Price = $39 and up depending on promos included.

THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $7,450 IS PLEDGED BY FRIDAY JAN 20, 1:08PM EST.

Designed by Daniel Quodbach, Caveman Curling is a game For 2 to 12 players, organized in two teams, for ages 7 and up.

In Caveman Curling each team attempts to “throw” or flick their rocks, one at a time, down the frozen lake. Special objects such as hammers, which allow the rocks to be moved after the throw, and totems, which protect a thrown rock from being moved, add an extra layer of strategy to the game. Play consists of rounds, at the end of which each team or player scores a point for each of their rocks closer to the center of the cave than any of their opponent’s rocks. The first team or player to six points wins!

Order of Professional Sorcerors

Imagine a world just like ours where sorcerers exist and pretty much everyone has some level of magical talent. People use their skills at work to accomplish everyday tasks: The chef uses alchemy to turn basic ingredients into the most rare and expensive dishes; the teacher conjures rich and entertaining lessons to educate her students; the funeral director uses dark necromancy to... well, you get the idea.

In this mystical world, instead of playing racquetball at their local gym, these everyday sorcerers like to blow off steam by playing their favorite magical sport in a league known as the Order of Professional Sorcerers.

In Order of Professional Sorcerers (OOPS) – a tactical, worker placement, optimization game – players will place magical cubes to the board in a competition to gain the most victory points. They will also be casting and acquiring powerful spells, attacking other players, improving their board control, and reacting to the crafty play of their opponents.

While inspired by games like To Court the King and Kingsburg, Order of Professional Sorcerers has more tactical choices and increased re-playability. In OOPS, no two games will have the exact same scoring strategies, and you'll have to react to your opponent's moves as the game progresses.

This project will only be funded if at least $15,000 is pledged by Wednesday Jan 11, 1:01pm HST.

CPU Wars Volume 1.0 - The Card Game
Note: This is a re-theme of Top Trumps.

Link = http://kck.st/uwAcFN

Game = $15

THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $3,500 IS PLEDGED BY FRIDAY DEC 23, 3:00PM EST.

What's CPU Wars?
CPU Wars is a trump card game created with tech geeks in mind. It's the most fun you can have with CPU specs.

What is this game?
The deck is made up of 30 cards, each featuring one CPU from the last 40 years and a list of specs. For Volume 1.0 I chose 30 CPUs that I believe had the greatest impact on the desktop history. The game is ideally played by 2 or 3 people (but it can be played by up to 6). The deck is split between the players and then each player takes a turn and picks a category that they think has the best value. I have chosen the most important specs that could be numerically represented, such as maximum speed achieved and maximum number of transistors. It's lots of fun, it has a bit of strategy and can be played during a break or over a coffee.

Heads of State: nine short games about tyrants

Link = http://kck.st/tyegfn

THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $1,800 IS PLEDGED BY THURSDAY DEC 29, 12:28PM EST.

Heads of State is a collection of nine short games about dictators.

The games allow you to invent and play the lives of fictional dictators. Each game is complete by itself, with rules that draw from role playing games, board games, and literary games. To take full advantage of the collection, try featuring the same dictator in more than one of the nine games.

In As I lay dying, players play brief scenes that represent memories swirling through the dictator’s mind as he lies on his death bed.

In Coup d’ etat. players take the role of military officers who stage a coup, cooperating to seize power but also competing to rise to the top of the junta.

In Crimes against Humanity, players act as prosecutors, defense attorneys, witnesses and judges in a war trial for war crimes of a deposed dictator.

In Disappeared, players are friends and family trying to locate a missing person who has probably been taken by the dictator’s secret police.

In New Edition, players act as members of a committee who are editing the dictator’s biography, each trying to emphasize a different interpretation of the tyrant’s life and legacy.

In Palace Gates, players are curious citizens who explore the tyrant’s residence soon after his death, explaining what possessions say about the leader’s life and rule.

In Rest & Relaxation, players are exiled tyrants commenting on news from home and trying to motivate themselves to reclaim power.

In Sic Semper Tyrannis, players act as a secret conspiracy plotting against the dictator with messages passed between players being altered to reflect the difficulty and risk of plotting.

In Subversive Words, players switch back and forth between portraying characters in an artwork a dissident artist is creating about the Tyrant, and guiding the artist as he or she navigates through censorship, the secret police, and other tribulations of life and creativity in a dictatorial state.

Players invent tyrants in all of the nine games in Heads of State. To help give you inspiration, the games include over a hundred biographical anecdotes of the crimes, eccentricities, rise and fall of real world 20th century and contemporary dictators. The games will also be illustrated with photographs of dictators and the statues and posters that promoted or mocked these heads of state.

Galvanic Playing Cards

Link = http://kck.st/tKtvU2

THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $15,000 IS PLEDGED BY TUESDAY DEC 20, 5:00PM EST.

What you see before you is the first playing card deck in which the designs were created entirely from a 3D program call Maya (the program used for most animation films today such as Shrek and How To Train A Dragon). Traditional playing cards that are on the market today are typically created only with Photoshop or Illustrator. For these designs, each element was digitally modeled, textured, rendered and then imported into Photoshop for final touch ups. Besides bringing 3D elements into cards, this is the first deck to be created from a story:

The complex back design for this playing card deck is the core or main battery source that gives the Galvanics life. What exactly are Galvanics you wonder? They are human engineered robotic intelligence create to serve one purpose: to learn the mistakes we're made after the death of our race. Our vision was that they could evolve into something we could have never imagined during our lifetime. But until now...we were uncertain of the powers they possessed...

The decks main focus point are the central orbs for both the Back Design as well as the Joker. The complex mechanism rotates throughout its entire lifespan. As they age, the rotation decreases and the light starts to dim. Once it stops, all life ceased to exist for those who retrieve its power source from the core. It's up to the Galvanics to protect it from unwanted visitors...

THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $1,000 IS PLEDGED BY WEDNESDAY JAN 4, 8:23AM EST.

LOST REICH is a game set in an alternate history, where the Germans fled to Antarctica at the end of WWII and secretly began rebuilding their armies, patiently waiting for the day their Reich would rise again. This starter set includes two complete mech armies, Allied and Axis, plus 3D terrain, 2D tiles, all necessary game accessories (except 6- sided dice) and a color rulebook. Hollywood Hookups

Link = http://kck.st/sdx7Cb

Game = $25

THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $8,000 IS PLEDGED BY SUNDAY JAN 1, 10:00PM EST.

The Concept

Hollywood Hookups is the first trivia game that links celebrities through biographical facts. The connections are real. And so are the celebrities. The concept of the game is very simple - you are given the names of two individuals that both dated or were married to the same person. You will have to come up with the name of the middle person. Hollywood Hookups links all kinds of celebrities - actors and actresses, musicians, athletes, and royalty. The trivia questions are in 3 different categories, and span the contemporary era to early 20th century.

The Game

The actual board game consists of a board, more than 500 question cards, 50 tokens, 1 die and 6 colored game pieces (red, yellow, blue, green, pink and orange). This is a family-friendly game for 2 to 6 players, ages 13 and up. The object of the game is to collect tokens by answering trivia questions correctly. The first player to get 8 tokens wins the game. This game can either be a single-player game, or it can be played in teams of 2 or 3. We really like the design of the board - the maroon color of the board contrasts nicely with the gold accents. The outside of the box has a white background, with more than 30 different celebrity names on the box - Marilyn Monroe, Tom Cruise, Britney Spears, to name a few.

The Question Cards

The questions come in 3 different categories - Modern, Classic and Connect 3. The Modern cards have questions about contemporary celebrities; the Classic cards have questions about classic (old Hollywood) celebrities. Both of those types of cards only have one celebrity as the answer. The Connect 3 cards have contemporary celebrities, but the connection involves 3 different celebrities. These questions are much harder, but we're sure you're up to the challenge! Please see the designs below.

Puzzle Me!

Link = http://kck.st/uXS8XJ

Game = $15

THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $5,000 IS PLEDGED BY TUESDAY JAN 31, 11:13AM EST.

Puzzle Me! is a family-friendly board game packaged inside a cute, little box. In Puzzle Me!, players connect jigsaw puzzle-shaped pieces to build the biggest puzzle they can. During each player’s turn, they may either place a puzzle piece into their own puzzle, or they may choose to place a piece into an opponent’s puzzle to try and block that opponent’s expansion. But be careful! Making a play like this may lead to similar payback in the near future. It’s Karma!

LangGuini

Link = http://kck.st/tr4yow

Game = $18

THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $2,200 IS PLEDGED BY MONDAY JAN 16, 8:55PM EST.

LangGuini is a multi player card game for 3 or more players. The game was designed during the 2010 Global Game Jam in Philadelphia, PA. last year's theme was "Extinction" so we decided that the English language has been deteriorating rapidly so we needed some new words. Being big fans of party games we wanted to make a social game, hence the three player minimum. After almost a year of play-testing and messing around with the mechanics we really want to print this game and get it out there.
