2010 Edition of Look What My Secret Santa sent me...
For those of you who are new to the Secret Santa List:
I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.
Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!
Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order.
In years past this list has been heavily monitored as the gifting season approaches and I am sure the same will hold true this year.
I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.
To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:
To see Simon Hunt's statistical breakdown of previous years' Secret Santa:
UPDATE New list: Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2010
Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2009
Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2008
Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2007
Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2006
IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.
A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.
Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.
So I get this
taunt, excuse me, message from Santa.
Subject: Merry Christnas
Merry Christmas from Santa. Santa has had his elves send a small package your way. This is not your wishlist present but just a little taste as to why Santa has such a big belly.
I get home from work on a dark rainy day today to find a box on the step. Inside is a gift box of 2 bottles of BBQ sauce and a shaker of seasoning from Gates of Kansas City. http://www.gatesbbq.com/ Believe me, this will be put to good use. I've got family in town next week and this will go over big time.
Thank you so much Santa. This is unexpected, but greatly appreciated.
Had this waiting for me when I got home, along with the pajama pants for my wife from Big Dogs for our anniversary. We both win! Included were Runebound: The Cataclysm and Runebound: Traps and Terrors. Awesome! They were wrapped, so I said that I would just open Runebound. Trouble was, I wasn't sure which one it was, so I just started opening, and ended up opening all three.
Thanks to my terrific Secret Santa, wherever and whoever you are! Probably the only game I will get, too, as my family just doesn't get it.
Got two boxes in the post today, opened both up expecting to see a bunch of wrapped gifts, in one of the boxes all three items were unwrapped. Zombie Dice was the first to be pulled from the box.
Second I pulled out: Fairy Tale
And third a game I've wanted for a long time: Blue Moon
Of course in the other box there was two more games, these ones wrapped.
My Secret Santa is awesome! Thank you Santa! I am very happy and I still have two more games waiting for me.
EDIT: Now that Christmas is over, I suppose I should post the other two games my Santa got me.
Firstly we have: Genji
And finally, the game that has become my favorite of the games my Santa got me and has already been played many times: Hex Hex XL
Thank you Santa for making this a great Christmas.
Whew! Santa outdid himself! This was my first Secret Santa, and I'm probably hooked. My wife commented that we need to do this every year.
We're really excited to crack these open. I think we may cancel all of our plans tomorrow night and have the group over so we can get these out.
I'd been home for nearly two hours tonight before I saw my package waiting for me by the front door. I turned off the tv, on which I had just brought up the BSG finale (I can't believe I watched the entire series in the last 40 days), and opened the package. BSG base game plus Pegasus.
Thanks Santa! You're swell

This message is my best attempt at being cryptic.
AWESOME: A story, a gift, and some new board games. I am so happy I decided to participate in the BGG Secret Santa this year.
It was a pretty stressful this week at work, so knowing that my Secret Santa had already gotten his/her act together and dispatched the reindeer with my gift was just another reason to look forward to the weekend.
Based on the UPS tracking number, I expected to find the gift waiting for me when I arrived home on Friday evening.
But there was no box on the porch. My wife hadn't found any packages when she got home earlier. Well, the UPS sometimes delivers late - I reassured myself - so may it will come in later.
8:30 pm rolled around and there was a knock on the door. Finally! Except it wasn't the mail carrier...
It was my upstairs neighbor, asking to borrow some baking powder. He was baking a cake for his daughters' first birthday party on Saturday. Rather than measure our 2 tablespoons of baking powder into a baggie, I just told him he could return the can on Saturday.
I also asked if he may have accidentally picked up a box for me from the porch. He said he'd check - as they'd be receiving a lot of presents from relatives this past week - but he didn't think so. They'd opened all the packages and they all appeared to be for his 1-year-old.
Nothing materialized on my porch Friday evening, so I was worried I'd have to call UPS Saturday morning...
Fast forward to this (Saturday) morning. I wake up and groggily begin to open the blinds in our main room. Glancing through the window, I notice something sitting on my door mat. I open the front door to find a box, a can of baking powder, and a note waiting for me.
Thanks for lending up baking Powder. Also, unfortunately, we opened the package you asked about yesterday. It contained wrapped gifts - so we didn't think twice about it being for someone else. Sorry!
Stop up for some cake later.
WOO! The package wasn't stolen - just mistakenly taken by two over-tired first-time parents of a one-year-old!!!
A very generous BGG Secret Santa provided me with two wonderful gifts:
Forthcoming - but wanted to get this story out before my day started.
NOTE: About the only frustrating part of the BGG Secret Santa process is that I can't thank my Secret Santa personally. I am so grateful for the gift and the excitement.
So, Secret Santa, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
Christmas came and the packages contained:
A game that may replace Apples to Apples as my family's favorite light group game. Its much easier on those members of the family who are engineers and, in their words, are not competitive i word games like Scrabble, Balderdash, and Bananagrams.
My wife and I were traveling over the Holidays and brought this game along with us. We were one of the many lucky people with delayed flights as a result of the snow-storms. This game was perfect for two tired, semi-annoyed people stuck in an airport. Also, with the multitude of stranded travelers around us, our seating area started to smell a little like a camel.
Thank you again, Secret Santa!

Since I don't actually celebrate christmas, I could open my presents right away.
Santa sent me this great game. It has several mechanics that I like = spatial puzzles, exploration, "reverse deduction", and it's really beautiful.
Santa found me a copy of The Battle for Hill 218 which I had being trying to find (or get in a math trade) for sometime.
I am really looking forward to trying these games. I think they will go over great in my gaming group.
Thanks so much Santa.

A package from my Secret Santa arrived this morning
I'll update this at Christmas when I open it!
I got a geekmail from Santa this morning, telling me that the package that has arrived is just "the first little box"
I can have another "special little treat" if I can work out what country Santa lives in. Looks like this Santa is going to make me work for my Christmas
Santa has now hinted there there are three packages - one I've received, one on its way, and a third if I can solve his puzzle. Based on the three clues, I think I've now got it, and have emailed Santa and updated my profile, so fingers crossed...
The second package has now arrived
I still need to solve Santa's riddle to get the third, though. Apparently my answer isn't right. Or is right but for the wrong reasons...
So, thanks to those who commented below, and another couple of clues from Santa, I finally worked out that Santa lives in... Denmark
This means that the third and final package is on its way
One more update to come next week, when I get to open my presents!
Not quite Christmas, but the third parcel has arrived, all the way from Denmark - which is pretty impressive given that I'm waiting for a load of post within the UK that has been delayed by the weather...
So, still one more update to come, when I get to open my presents!
OK, so it's not quite Christmas Day, but I'm going away this afternoon, so I thought it was time I opened my presents
Santa clearly realises that I'm a sucker for expansions and for card games, as he bought me:
Arkham Horror: Curse of the Dark Pharaoh Expansion
La Isla Bohnitâ
Importantly for my geek credibility, it's the original edition of Bohnanza, so I now own a German-language game
And, as if that weren't enough, Santa also included some sweets, which will be shared with my family tomorrow.
Thank you very much indeed, my very generous Danish Santa
Wow! I must have been good this year. Santa sent me quite a few games in addition to Agricola: Farmers of the Moor.
and an extra surprise not on my wishlist:
My gaming group had talked about wanting to play this, so now we can!
Once again, Secret Santa has shown that he has the power to read minds.
Thanks so much Santa!
The package arrived and my 4 year old daughter was excited to open the box, so what could I do but open it! Also, I have to keep my wishlist up-to-date, right? The year that I didn’t, I got three copies of Wasabi! for Christmas!
Anyway, her first enjoyment was digging through the pink packing peanuts! After we got the games out of the box, she hopped in the box and buried herself in the remaining peanuts.
The first game was Tales of the Arabian Nights. My Secret Santa said that it’s their FAVORITE game of all time, so this was a no brainer for them. My daughter is into story-telling at the moment, so I think that it’ll be a good fit!
My Secret Santa was kind enough to include a second game as well, Forbidden Island.
We opened up the game right away. She got down to work arranging the tiles and we played an abbreviated/simplified game.

"Jayne, your mouth is talking. You might wanna look to that."
"Wash, we got some local color happening. A grand entrance would not go amiss."
Santa's truck (err sleigh) arrived on 10 December 2010 with a nice surprise from Thought Hammer.
Thanks Secret Santa!!!
I asked the Mrs. to check the contents and discovered today's package is actually my BGG Secret Santa gifts. Previous package from CLS Games (received 20 November) was opened and found to contain my Wargame Secret Santa gift. While the Mrs. knows what games I've received, I'll wait until Christmas to find out...
BGG Secret Santa also sent:
THANKS SECRET SANTA!!!
Bah da da da da da da... da da da da da da da... DAH dah DAH!
Gabriel Knight. Check it out at GOG.Com
So, I realized a flaw in my plan to participate in both the Dice Tower Secret Santa and the BGG Secret Santa. Namely, I just received two wonderful packages from Thoughthammer, and I have no idea which Santa to thank!
I think this one came from my BGG Secret Santa, since my DT Secret Santa just sent me a confirmation with delivery on the 30th. So I'm holding this spot until I get this all sorted out.
Thank you Santa!! More to come!
EDIT 1: OK, so I'm pretty confident that this is my BGG Santa. DT Santa, if I'm wrong, I'm sure you'll correct me!
Today, I was thrilled to find a BIG box from Thoughthammer at my doorstep! Santa strikes again!
We open up the box, and find two beautifully wrapped packages. My oldest was especially enamored by the treasures inside.
We'll be setting up the tree this Friday, and when we do, these two will be placed right underneath. The first two gifts of the season. Thanks so much Santa! Merry Christmas!
EDIT 2: OK, I couldn't wait. Or more specifically, Luke couldn't wait. Lesson learned, NO gifts under the Tree until Christmas morning!
Santa did a really good job this year. He must have caught that Chicago Express is my second-favoritest-game-of-all-time, because he got me
I've heard so many good things (and so many comparisons to Chicago Express) that I can't wait to get this to the table. He also threw in
for good measure. I've owned two copies of this, and sold them to non-gaming friends who adored it, only to find that my FLGS was completely out of them. It's great finally getting a copy for myself.
Thanks Santa! And Merry Christmas!
Board Game: Cuba
[Average Rating:7.21 Overall Rank:281]
This is my second time participating in the BGG Secret Santa and Santa was really generous this year!
Santa got me Cuba which has been on not just my radar but the radar of everyone in my game group for over a year! We cannot wait to get this game to the table after everything we have heard
Not only did Santa get me Cuba, but he also got me Stone Age which I have heard nothing but good things about and has had me very interested since I like all of the games that this is compared favorably to!
Finally, Santa took great sympathy on me by saying he wouldn't tell Mrs. Claus if I opened my gifts before Christmas
Thanks again for such generous gifts!
Okay, so my Santa also acts fast. After a couple of taunting emails I get one that looks like this:
0310 1230 0002 0639 1568
0310 1230 0002 0639 1575
Today, while expecting some of my packages for my target, I get a package with the following Delivery Confirmation number: 0310 1230 0002 0639 1575. There was a nice card and wrapped package. Every year I say that I am not going to open them before Christmas, and every year I cave. This year probably won't be any different
Now that I know what the numbers mean, I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of another gift.
The second package arrived. Inside was a box of four MtG decks from Planechase. I always have an MtG itch to scratch and looking forward to dueling with these!
So I made it all the way to Christmas and opened up a copy of Settlers of America! I am so looking forward to playing this. Thank you Secret Santa!
I returned home from work yesterday to find that I'd missed a delivery, which is odd as I normally use my work address for deliveries. So the errand for this Saturday morning was to take a trip to the sorting office - which involves a 20 minute walk, a short train ride and some more walking just to get there. All the way, I'm racking my brains trying to think what I ordered and why I put my home address on it. Boy was I happy when I realised what the parcel was
I dropped in to my FLGS on the way back (it really is on the way back!) where I opened the box and we (myself and the store manager and employees) had a fun 10 minutes trying to guess what the games (yes, plural) were from the package shapes/sounds.
We couldn't do it - not even after comparing them with boxes on the shelves
So, it didn't take too much persuading to open them up. I'm glad I did!
Santa has outdone himself this year - The Three Musketeers: The Queen's Pendants - a game that has only just come on to my radar but which I've been dying to play ever since it did. Good work Santa!
AND a bonus game, which wasn't on my wishlist (and which I'd never actually heard of);
A pleasant little surprise, and now that I've read the rules, one that I think will be just the sort of filler game that my group will appreciate.
Thank you so much Santa and...
Merry Christmas everyone!

Sorry for the delay Santa - Travel prevented me from updating.
We left for Holiday travel before Christmas. I waited as long as I could - the wife had an iron-clad argument:
"What if it's a game we want to play on or trip?"
And if you can imagine - she was right!
We took Dominion with us and played.
And included was another Game:
Santa - you are so generous
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
IT HAS ARRIVED!
(Those Eastern Europe Santas are on it.)
What a blessing to receive a package so early and know without doubt that Santa is watching and took good care of me this year.
What a curse to receive a package so early and know without doubt that Santa is watching and took good care of me this year - Santa told me not to open *them* till Christmas!!
Santa I'll do my best - Promise!
But being as you are all-seeing, you know it's gonna be hard to hide such a huge box. Especially since my 4 year old saw it on the porch today when we arrived home...
What is that?
Is that a box?
Does it have a name on it?
Is it for me?
Can I open it?
Let see what's in there.
Why don't we open it?
Can I open it?
Is it a game?
-if- when my wife finds it (there is no hiding anything from her, especially boardgames - even though she's presently 1500 miles away she already knows it's here I'm sure of it), the box can not stay sealed.
- Give me strength -
Thank You Santa!
Santa sent me a note:
I understand how painfull it is to have the package without knowing what's inside.
So a little hint for you: there are three games inside. Well...to be exact: 2 games and a small bonus. One game is your love to have and want in trade and the other is like to have.
I must admit I admire your attitude - If I were you I would not resist it
Hope you will enjoy your new games.
Your Eastern Europe Secret Santa
What a Conundrum... Now what?
Santa says open!
But Santa says wait till Christmas.
Where's that box?
What would you do?
Should seppi open his Secret Santa gift now or wait til Christmas?
(Click to answer GeekQuestion)
I went out early today to get the car oil sprayed and when I came back there was a box from Amazon sitting on my front porch. I was pretty excited since I knew we had not ordered anything so there was a good chance it was from my Santa!
My wife opened it to see if it was from Santa and sure enough it was a game. So I sent Santa a message thanking him for the gift and he gave me permission to open it since he wanted me to be able to enjoy it over the Thanksgiving weekend.
So with excitement building I opened it up and pulled out the packaging material and there nestled in the box was Powergrid! A game from my wish list.
So thank you again Santa!
P.S. My cats really liked the box the game came in.
edit - I have enjoyed the game so far. The first game we played my wife crushed us.
Boy was my Secret Santa fast and I was taunted a couple of times to boot. Thanks Santa! Now my wife will play a game with me... surprisingly she is not found of Storm over Arnhem or Storm Over Stalingrad or Wings of War!
Ho! Ho! Ho!
Stay on Target
For A Merry Christmas!
Well, I have a package from Secret Santa.
This package claims to be from from Finland, but isn't that where Lapland is?
Well its not actually 'the christmas game' but I will update on Christmas afternoon with details of what it is. Yes I can wait (well I'm made to by the boss and the kids ).
Well happy times to all.
Yes, all is revealed - Its Farmers of the Moor, with the correct sleeves and animepples. The Veggiemeeples topped it off, being a vegan .
But the gift that keeps giving the Kiva Loan is even better - I'll post when I've had time to digest the system.
Loving Kindness to all especially my secret Santa
VARRRRRROOOOOOMMMMMMMM!!!!!!! I'm assuming this is from Santa (I've dumped alot of GG in auctions lately, but do not see where I won this)
And, it came with
Formula D: Circuits 2 – Hockenheim and Valencia
Arrives on the same day I get my new VIERA TV. It's a good weekend...
Last week I got home from work and there was a package waiting for me in the house! I've heard Secret Santa's sending out presents quickly but this was nuts.
My SS did taunt a little bit with a poem about a week ago and let me know that my presents were on the way!
My initial thought was to have my wife open the box to make sure things were wrapped. But I decided if they weren't wrapped, well I'll just take it as a sign that I should just add them to my collection immediately! Well, I opened the box and they were wrapped & there was a card enclosed as well!
Well that was it, they were wrapped so I'll just put them away until the big day! That was easier said than done! I was set on waiting but there was a voice telling me to just open them! That voice was my wife! Hopefully this didn't put me on the naughty list because I ended up listening to her! Kind of an Adam & Eve moment, I guess! At least I'll have new games when we're cast from the garden!
Anyway, I tore into the presents and was very happy with what my Secret Santa got for me this year!
I got Robo Rally & Tobago! Two great games! Thanks Santa! You are awesome! I know my wishlist was long but you did really well and I am very pleased! My wife and I even played our first game of Tobago last night and we both enjoyed it very much! I can't wait to bring Robo Rally to the table now and partake in some robot mayhem!
Secret Santa, whoever you are, thank you for the great games and my wife and I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
I hadn't heard from my Santa and was starting to think he wasn't around yet. But yesterday I found a package at my door that i had not ordered. It was so exciting! I don't want to open them until Christmas, so I had my brother open the box and tell me if they were wrapped or not. They weren't, so he did a little wrapping on behalf of Santa.
Now all I have to do is wait FOREVER until I let myself open them. Yep, i said them, Santa sent me two presents!
I'll update after the big day, and say my thanks in a more specific manner.
Thanks You Santa!!!
I opened my "wrapped" gifts just after Midnight on Christmas, so I could play whatever I got before it was time to retire. I opened the smaller box first- Zombie Fluxx. I kind of figured that one out from the feel of the box. Next was the big box, which I had no idea what was inside.
It was The Adventurers! Yay! I immediately opened it (the best part of getting a new game) and was soon playing a 4 person game. It's a lot of fun, and while it is a game I really wanted, I probably wouldn't have gotten around to buying for myself for quite some time.
I've played Zombie Fluxx with some friends before, but I'm excited that now I have a copy to bring wherever I choose.

I haven't got the game yet but i got my first tease.
I woke up with an envelope waiting me and there was ... a Texas flag in there
Thanks Secret Santa, my nephew loved it
Edit: Got my present (some time now) its Macao
Thanks a lot Santa even with your little mistake i still love you
Thank you thank you thank you Santa!
That was quick!
I knew I've been a good boy this year :-)
PS: for all of you worried about the fact that your Santa is silent: well, mine was, too, but he sent the perfect gift anyway!
So... Don't worry ;-)
