For those of you who are new to the Secret Santa List:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order.

In years past this list has been heavily monitored as the gifting season approaches and I am sure the same will hold true this year.

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

"2009 List"

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

"2006 List"

To see Simon Hunt's statistical breakdown of previous years' Secret Santa:

UPDATE New list: Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2010

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2009

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2008

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2007

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2006

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

My Secret Santa is the best!
mbmbmbmbmb
Hahh, got it! I admit, I very much suspected the parcel to be what it indeed turned out to be: my Secret Santa present. But well... I could not be absolutely sure, so I HAD to open it. I am sure everybody understands
And it is Dust! A game just recently added to my Wishlist because it seems to fulfill everything I was looking for: wargame-ish, many players, easy enough to play with non-wargamers. And there it is!
THANK YOU very much, Santa! That´s perfect! I was sitting on the carpet with both hands full of plastic miniatures and laughed like a little boy . I wish you all the best back to the other side of the globe and hope you enjoy the most wonderful holiday season with your family. All the best from Germany!

Holy giant box, Santa!

I was greeted by the 'what did you buy now' glare from my wife when I came home yesterday. I have mixed feelings about that glare. On one hand, new games or DVDs, on the other hand, I'm getting a glare that peels paint.

Oh well.

I cut into the box with a pair of scissors my wife handed me in a manner I'm not entirely happy about. PINK PACKING PEANUTS!!! Lots of them! A metric crapload of pink packing peanuts. I'm sure I'll find something fun to do with them.

Anyway, I also find a copy of Claustrophobia and a Summoner wars starter. Score!

I've been really curious about Claustrophobia and I really wanted the other Summoner Wars starter. Thanks a ton, Santa! I hope you have a wonderful holiday season!

Now to go get my target's gifts.

Good thing Santa sent a letter TO ME!

He let me know, in a very hip message, that his uniformed logistics elves had delivered a package. So, I looked on my porch. I saw no package. I did see a small white hump in the snow ON my porch. This small hump would have become a none hump in a few hours.

I probably would have skewered it with my snow shovel if I hadn't known! sobluethumbsdowncryd10-1d10-0nuclear1

The box was wet so I cracked it open, closed my eyes, and reached in with my fingers to make sure the inside wasn't wet. Not wet. Drat! Means I couldn't open it. Instead I put it on a chair sat across from it in my couch and looked at it like Ed and HI look at Nathan Jr. when they first bring him home and set HIM on THEIR chair and THEY sit on THEIR couch.

From my vast 'receive games in larger shipping boxes' experience, I'm guessing it's one game that's the size of a Kosmos or Days of Wonder big box. Well, that could be quite a few cool things!

Unfortunately though, I didn't 'let's us preserve the moment in pictures.'

Thanks Santa!

UPDATE! 12-06-10:
Santa and his elves (and one elf in particular, Winky) are OUT OF CONTROL! Shortly after I received my first package I got a 'relationship' letter from Santa. Except it wasn't about our relationship it was about his relationship with an elf named Winky who apparently had begun a coup starting with the delivery of my Secret Santa gift. The subtext was clear; there was almost a full-scale snowball war.

So in this letter, it explained that due to the non-Santa origin of my first gift, which I still haven't opened, I could expect an extra 'Thank you!' from Santa himself! Was this another of Winky's tricks? I mean, I know anyone can log into the Santa account. Maybe there IS a full-scale snowball war going on right now!

My conspiracy laced mind began to pedal faster. I remained hopeful that Santa would prevail, but an extra 'Thank you!' sounded pretty sweet. Shamefully and secretly I started rooting for whoever sent the 'relationship' letter to win the war! Is that wrong? Santa might have really sent it but I know for FACT that he ALWAYS delivers his presents ALL AT ONCE. And now 'he's just gonna decide, out of the $#$#@#@ blue' to start dividing his deliveries? It stenched the stench of Winky to me.

And so I waited. And I watched my doorstep every day lest I end up with a snow hump instead of a 'Thank you!' Night after day after night. Nothing.

And then, one day, one day ago to be literal, my wife realized the front door had been unlocked. And then she saw it. The 'Thank you!' had been PLACED inside my warm and cozy house! Only Santa has those kinds of door unlocking powers! I felt ashamed. The box was from one of Santa's game stores but I knew that there would be a message so I was going to open this one. I knew it would explain everything.

Here is what was inside:

AND

What did it mean?! After switching the two games back and forth, playing with rhymes and anagrams, I can only come to one horrifying conclusion.

This must be Winky!!! And he wants me to tell the world that Santa has been exploded by snowballs manufactured in the past by the WWF and, somehow, brought to the future colder, harder, and more powerful than ever propelled by powerful armored beasts! Planning to make The North Pole roomier, warmer, and more rectangular we can expect our Christmas 'deliveries' WAY earlier and in more consistent and streamlined packaging! He must be in talks with Apple right now!

It will be horrible!!! 'No Thanks!' indeed!

EVERYBODY RUN!!! CHRISTMAS IS ALMOST HERE!!! HE CAN GET IN YOUR HOUSE!!!

(I hope exploded Santa just turns into lots of little Santas so he can stop Winky's plans. Though, he did send me some pretty sweet games from my wishlist…and I love my computers and iPods. Bah! Perish the thought! Santas?)

UPDATE!!! 01-15-11
Sorry Santa (or Winky?) that it took me so many days past Christmas to thank you for my BIG gift!

I played a four-player game with my wife and parents on New Year's Eve. My parents managed to stretch it out to a mere 130 minutes. Ouch! I think they were tired that evening. My wife liked it despite the time investment which made it a gift for both of us!

Thanks again so so much Secret Santa. I never got any hints as to who you REALLY are (Santa or Winky or ?????) so I guess I'll never know. Just know that you did a great and Christmasy job!

A+++++ Would Secret Santa with again!

I arrived home yesterday to find a package waiting for me. I opened the box to find that it was my Secret Santa Gift! I wasn't sure if it was the Regular Secret Santa or the Dice Tower Secret Santa. I'm sorry Santa, but I opened it. I had to find out for the sake of other Christmas Presents.whistle

I got a shiny new copy of Betrayal at House on the Hill and also Middle Kingdom! Thank you so much Santa! I can't wait to play BaHotH with my family this Christmas.

So Santa let me know that he was going to swing by in the morning to make a delivery. I prepared by leaving him some cookies, because I figured Santa would be hungry after carrying presents.

In the morning I woke up when I heard my dogs barking, I figured that it was probably Santa. So I woke up and looked outside and found Santa’s delivery. I was worried Santa wouldn’t see the cookies when he made his delivery, but he found them. This was the box:

The box was full of cool stuff: some snacks for my dog, three wrapped boxes, one pez dispenser, the movie Blazing Saddles, a box of chocolates and a small wooden football game.

I couldn’t resist the temptation to open one so I did, after all Santa said it was ok. I found Twilight Struggle, awesome this was on the top of my list! The other two will go unopened until X-mas.
THANK YOU SANTA! I am sure this will be the best box with presents I get this holiday season.
Edit: 12/25/10
So I finally got to open the rest of my gifts, the other two boxes where...Acquire and Sorry! Sliders. Thank you santa I was actually looking into getting Sorry sliders!
Edit: 1/4/11
My Santa also sent me 50GG that I used to get my avatar!!

Santa let me know to expect a package -- it arrived today and I resisted opening it for a good 10 or 15 minutes (mainly because I'm working from home and had to finish something first).

For some reason I thought High Frontier was out of stock everywhere, so I was completely not expecting to see it. I'm an old school science fiction fan, so when I heard about HF I was stoked to see a "hard" SF themed game, especially getting such good ratings/comments too.

Santa also gave me

High Frontier Expansion

which is just icing on the cake. Then he also gave me a quart of dutch chocolate ice cream to go with that cake:

Dominion: Prosperity

Man, I need to figure out what I did this year to score so high on the Good Meter so I can repeat it next year.

With any luck I'll get both of these played during the Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you very much, Santa, wherever you are!

UPDATE

Dear Santa,

Thank you very much for "Revolution!". As you know I was keen on it as it was a boardgame my husband expressed interest in (a rarity). He is indeed delighted with it!

We finally opened it yesterday and played today. We are staying at my parents for Christmas so played it with them and my aunt. Being non gamers and generally bemused at my interest, they were a bit at sea to begin with but got into it in the end. My husband was also very pleased with himself in getting five times the score of the last player so I think it will be hitting the table again soon! My mother was equally pleased to come a decent second. So thank you very much once again Santa for helping bring the family together.

Fiona

*****************

Dear Santa,

Thank you very much for your gift. I haved noted your request for it not to be opened early and so it shall continue to sit on the table looking tempting(until we put up our tree)!

It is beautifully wrapped.

When it arrived this morning I thought it was a present for my daughter who is one year old tomorrow so has been getting all the post lately

Thank you very much in advance. I shall put up an update after Christmas and I shall 'enjoy' playing "guess the box" until then!

All the best for the coming year,

Fiona

A few hours ago, a big parcel from my Secret Santa arrived at home.
I opened it and began to investigate some clues before opening the gift boxes inside.
That's what I have discovered.

1. Real Santa loves boardgames.
2. He is a BGG user.
3. He enrolled Secret Santa 2010 edition
4. I was his target.

That's the only explanation to the AWESOME gift I've received: RUNEWARS and 7 WONDERS.

Oh my god!!! It's incredible. Thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks.........

I have been looking to the boxes for several minutes cause I couldn't believe it.

Well my Secret Santa has humbled me again this year. I have received a package today that contained not one, not two but THREE boxes wonderfully wrapped in penguin wrapping paper.

I just hope that my Secret Santa victi.....errr target is as happy with their package as I am with mine..... and I have not even unwrapped them yet!

My Secret Santa is a cruel and merciless Santa and I know that he is watching me wrestle with this moral dilemma... To Unwrap or not to Unwrap, that is the question!

ON WITH THE PICS!!

OMG It is almost the size of a coffin! What treasures could it hold??

There HAS to be more than just paper in there, there HAS to be!

AHA! I see something! Double wrapped in bubble paper for their protection!

AHHH Must resist... *looks around* Where is my D20, I need to make a save vs. Willpower!

So my esteemed gaming enthusiasts I shall leave the decision up to all of you. Do I break down and open them in maddened frenzy of torn up penguin paper and cellophane or do I leave them for Christmas morning.

OK OK OK!!!

After all of your comments and even a prod from Santa himself I broke down and opened the packages!

Here is what was underneath the penguins!

AND... yes an AND..

AND ANOTHER AND... This one for the kiddies.. (Thank you for considering my children Santa.... )

Very very considerate of you my friend, I do not feel deserving.

MERRYblankCHRISTMAS

This year my BGG Secret Santa had not taunted me or sent me any messages; so that gave me no warning at all of the impending surprise.

Five minutes after UPS delivered stuff from the MMP Pre-Thanksgiving Sale there was a knock on the door, and I was not expecting anyone. It was Fedex with a LARGE box, my heart started to pace and my brain started to race...could it be ?

The package was from Cool Stuff Inc; I have ordered games from them before but not for a while, and I wasn't expecting anything. Hopes were beginning to rise and, did I mention, it was a LARGE box.

Back in 2008 I had made the mistake of accidentally opening the box and seeing my pressies before Christmas morn, so I was not going to make the same mistake again. Carefully digging in the packing I spot a glimpse of wrapping paper, Hooray ! It is gift wrapped, so then I attack the box like a 4 year old.

Out of the box comes...

not one gift wrapped box surprise

not two.... surprisesurprise

not three.. surprisesurprisesurprise

but four gift wrapped boxes. surprisesurprisesurprisesurprise

and a card and a CSI $5 gift certificate.

If I was a teenager I would be all "wtf" and "omg" but I do not have such a grasp of expressive English; so I stood there gobsmacked and mute and then, being an adult, my next thought was "they must have spent a bloomin' fortune".

I am still speechless.

Here are some piccies.

Many thanks.

I am not sure what the games are, so I am thinking of doing a competition to win the $5 CSI voucher and a game: whoever is first to correctly guess the contents of the 4 boxes wins, or whoever is closet. At the moment I have little or no idea what they are.

I am still speechless.

What a great surprise I got when my wife sent me a pic while I was at work of a big book from Coolstuffinc! At first I thought I was in trouble but quickly realized that I had not place an order (this time!)

Santa - you couldn't have done better! Thanks so much - it is greatly appreciate! And I hope you get treated as well as you treated me.

Happy Holidays!

Bob

Santa's present has arrived... a brand spankin' new copy of Small World!!!

I have already played it and it's awesome. Not to mention has proved to be a hit both with my normal gaming group and with the game club I run for my middle school students. Strategy, simplcity, and the joy of conquest... perfect.
THANKYOUSANTA!!!!!

I found a box from Funagain sitting on the front porch this evening. Inside was the invoice, which included this note:

"Ho ho ho! I hope you enjoy the games! I just love playing Can;t Stop! Your Secret Santa from Brazil : )"

And in the box, beneath the layer of packing material, was Can't Stop!. Of course, the note on the invoice said games, which meant that beneath that was...

Asara! I didn't think I'd be getting some of my most wanted games, as they were mostly either out of print or just released at Essen and haven't found their way here yet. Well, this is the German edition, but that's just fine because there is an English rule set available.

Thank you very much Brazilian Secret Santa! Merry Christmas!

Received my package on Wednesday, November 24, from Santa (& Thoughthammer!).

Though my Santa sent a GeekMail telling me I could open them right away, I was planning on waiting a bit. However, when I opened the outer package, the Thoughthammer invoice was on top and had the games listed! Bummer, no surprise, but it gave me an excuse so might as well open them!

The first package I opened was the latest retail expansion to Carcassonne: Carcassonne: Bridges, Castles, and Bazaars! Awesome! It has been a while since I pulled out Carcassonne and the small expansions had been piling up unplayed. This was the perfect excuse to grab the tackle box and reorganize. The Castles and Bridges look great. Not quite sure about Bazaars yet but we'll all play it through and see how it goes!

The next package was the "main game" and a very good choice: Fresco. I have been on a worker placement kick lately and this one really grabbed me. Christie and I played it at GenCon (she finished the game when I had to leave and we won!). The game has been on my mind constantly and definitely at the top of my list. I will have this on the table as soon as I can pull everyone away from the Turkey and Christmas shopping. I have Monday off and look forward to playing it at least by then if nothing else!

And the next picture has nothing to do with the gifts, but I couldn't help but to put it up to spread the Christmas cheer! This is Joshua, future gamer, who just turned 1 last weekend. Elmo is his favorite characters and already a part of his vocabulary.

A very big thank you to my generous Secret Santa! Excellent choices all around. And Merry Christmas to everyone!

Today I received a copy of the base game and

the expansion: Kingsburg: To Forge a Realm.

Awesome job Santa! I got to play my first game of Kingsburg just this year at Great Lakes Games and can't wait to play again with my own copies. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
