For those of you who are new to the Secret Santa List:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order.

In years past this list has been heavily monitored as the gifting season approaches and I am sure the same will hold true this year.

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

"2009 List"

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

"2006 List"

To see Simon Hunt's statistical breakdown of previous years' Secret Santa:

UPDATE New list: Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2010

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2009

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2008

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2007

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2006

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

My Secret Santa is deeply awesome. Not only did he send me my own copy of what has become my favorite game ever made so I can stop bothering the person in my group who owns it to bring it every week (see entry item), he also sent Carson City, which I have had my eye on for a while now (and which nobody at my group has, so even better)! All on top of some nicely amusing taunting. If you're reading this, thanks so much!

::EDIT:: I've been reading the debate regarding opening before christmas, so figured I'd weigh in on my decision to open the box. Of course the real reason is "OMG GAMES, MUST OPEN THEM TODAY," but there's some real reasons too. For one, I get a lot of chances to play with family and such through the holiday season, and I'd like to have something new available. Also, I'm planning on using my giftlist as a santa list for some family/friends who wanted to get my boardgames but don't know what I have/want, and I'd rather update that before giving it out than unnecessarily risk duplicates. Finally, between myself and my game group there are always a bunch of new games at Christmas, thus ending up with a "what to play first" traffic jam, so I'll jump at any chance to spread things out.

My Secret Santa has really been on the ball this year - I heard from him very quickly, and was told to expect a package very soon from a friendly online retailer. In the meantime, I received a little surprise sent directly to me - the new power plant cards for Power Grid! This was meant to whet my appetite, which it will do nicely - a perfect excuse to get a favorite game to the table real soon.

In the meantime I have deduced the following about my SS:
- He (or perhaps she) resides in the great state of Minnesota. That narrows it down to...a lot of people!
- He is resourceful. My SS actually opened a gmail account just to send me a message - how cool is that?
- He is thoughtful. Not only did he send me tracking info, but before that he had attempted to contact my FLGS, which didn't happen to have what he was looking for. The extra legwork was appreciated!
- He is smart. Anyone that correctly uses "your" vs. "you're" gets an automatic thumbsup from me.

UPDATE:

So here's the thing. My SS was pretty clear that I should try not to open the big box when it arrived and wait awhile. And I had every intention of doing so (I made it to Christmas Eve last year). But unfortunately there was some miscommunication with my better half, who was also shopping off my wish list, and was afraid of duplication. Thus the box was opened early. On the bright side, I have some game days planned between now and Christmas to eagerly get started playing!

Inside the box, I found that my SS had obviously noticed my love of Ken Follett, and thus gifted me not only

World Without End, which I've been dying to try for ages; but also the intriguing

The Pillars of the Earth: Builders Duel! A new 2-player game based on my all-time favorite book will be a treat. As if that wasn't enough, my SS also noticed my love of Agatha Christie, and thus gave me a game I wanted badly -

Mystery Express! Considering that I still love to play Clue, I can't wait to try this game with its greater complexity.

In short, my SS was fast, observant of my literary loves and incredibly generous! I am so blessed and happier than I can say! THANK YOU, Secret Santa!!! (And a big apology for me being naughty with the early opening. Please don't send me coal next time!)

I have had 2 wonderful years both gifting and receiving as part of the BGG Secret Santa exchange, and can't wait for next year!

EDIT:

Just in case my SS is still reading this, I wanted to let you know that I've now had the chance to play all three games - and they are all winners! We'll be getting much enjoyment out of these, so thank you so much for your generosity!

Oh, I should add - thanks too for the bars of chocolate, and the, um, fossils

Knizia's Tower of Babel, and
Mesopotamia.

Yesterday evening, when I came home,it really felt like Christmass already.
Snow was falling out of the sky for the first time this wintertime, it was cold and a nice cup of hot chocolate was waiting for me.

I saw two packages on the table, adressed to me.
One of them I knew what was in it (Vinhos), but the other one, had to be my Secret Santa Gift.
When I openend it, I was very surprised, because it contained the one gift'I hoped for, but didn't expect.

7 WONDERS

So to my secret Santa.....

I want to thank you very very very much for this miracle.
I hope you, and mss Santa will have a wonderful Christmasstime yourself.

I've been saying for months that I really must remedy my failure to have played the top game on the Geek.

And clearly, Santa agrees! A well-wrapped box came through the door this morning and I had a brief exchange of views with my wife on when Christmas presents should be opened. And then she went out and I opened it anyway!

Santa also brought me Mini FITS, which is a damn sight more useful than the full-size version for someone who is struggling for shelf-space!

Thanks Santa, and thanks also to Paul and his elves at boardgameguru.co.uk

A parcel arrived at work this morning. I was expecting delivery of a couple of games that I had ordered from Boardgameguru, a UK online retailer and so this was no surprise. What was surprising was the size of the box. It looked about twice as big as it needed to be.

I opened it up and pulled out the packaging material that covered the contents. To my surprise, alongside the two games I had ordered, were two presents wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper.

Wow! Gifts from my Secret Santa!! Two gifts, both looking like substantial games!!!

I am going to diverge from what seems to be the standard practice here and I am not going to open them ... yet.

Secret Santa - thank you so much for your generosity and your thoughtfulness. I am going to try and resist temptation and wait until Christmas Day to open these.

I'll update this GeekList item once I know what the games are.

Happy Christmas!

Edit (28 December): Now back from the Lake District. Secret Santa, thank you so much for finding not just one game, but three - all on my WishList!

Here is the first of the two that arrived at work when I posted this GeekList item: Poseidon

And here is the second: Shipyard

Wow! Thank you again! I hope that you are pleased with what your Secret Santa sent to you.

So I finally got to my P.O. Box today and lo there was an Amazon box awaiting me. Having not ordered anything from Amazon recently I felt confident of a Secret Santa gift (although I hadn't been aware that Amazon would mail anything other than books to Australia). Anyhow I opened the box and found that Amazon and Santa were only half stealthy. In the box was a copy of San Juan and another smaller wrapped package. The wrapped package had a card with the following verse inside:

This gift you should enjoy
It's one I hope you like
Could it be something new?
How should I know?
Uganda is a country!

"Uganda is a country?!? What the...Ah..."

So my money is on Tichu for the second gift. But it still remains wrapped and will do so until Christmas day. Of course San Juan is fair game!

Thanks Canadian Secret Santa! Well, not so secret thanks to Amazon. But thanks again for two awesome games which should get plenty of play for years to come!

Post Christmas Edit: Well, as expected my final present was indeed Tichu!

Thanks again Secret Santa for a couple of quality games! I hope you had a great day too!

Hohoho,

I received a package today from leisuregames.com. My girlfriend saw it before me and grabbed it. "I'll check the box and will have a look if there's some wrapped stuff inside." she told me.
"If not, i'll wrap them and lay it under our Christmas tree". So honestly, i have no chance of ripping it before Christmas. arrrh

Oh well, patience is also a virtue. Hohoho

Thanks alot Secret Santa!!
I'll update the content later (in a long time). *grin*

PS. I'll have the feeling i'll be very happy with my Secret Santa as there a some hard (in Switzerland) to get things on my wishlist and my package comes no, not from Switzerland and no, not from Germany.
So hell, .... i have to wait. -.-

Update: I got a Maria thats on my wishlist since it came out.
Thank you very very much Santa!!!!

And also nougat from Spain, and Sinterklaas chocolate coins (from the Netherlands LOL)

A week ago last Saturday, my SS let me know the games were on the way. I waited anxiously all Thanksgiving week. Finally, last Friday, three packages showed up on my door. Now, one of them was a Christmas present for my son from my parents, but the other two were from the SS.

The first package was from CoolStuffInc.

I opened it up and found Puerto Rico and Bohnanza! I've looked at PR many, many times, but never convinced myself to buy it. Now I don't have to worry about not having the #1 game here on BGG. Bohnanza has already seen several plays between my wife and I.

The other package came from Canada courtesy of my SS:

Inside it, I found War of 1812. Now, I love this as: #1 - I don't have any block games, and this seems right up my alley. #2 - my SS looks to be Canadian, and this game's map takes place on the US/Canada border.

TBH, though, I'm just assuming my SS sent all three, considering I'm in the wargame SS, too. The last package was sent from my SS and not my Santa Grog, after all!

Ha! Mystery solved! Wargame DID come from Santa Grog instead of Secret Santa. I can't imagine the luck that all my games would show up on the exact same day from different countries!

My package arrived a while back (probably a week or so) but I was on the road until this evening.

As per instructions, it won't be opened yet.

EDIT: It's quite heavy.

EDIT2: After waiting all the way till Christmas, I forgot to come back here and update my GL entry.

Only played once so far, but it looks like it will be a popular choice around here.

This above all: To thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.

Came home today to find four boxes from various stores sitting at the front door. My wife and I had done considerable shopping online on Black Friday and these were the firstfruits of that shopping. So, I started opening the boxes to confirm shipments.

What's this? A box from Coolstuffinc? Oh yes -- I had ordered my Secret Santa target's gift from there. Wow, that was fast! So, without thinking I tore open the box to check on my order.

Lo and behold, these were not the games I was looking for! Even though my Secret Santa had tipped me off to shipment, I had completely forgotten until I gazed upon my prizes. And since they were unwrapped, I could go ahead and look through the box

Included along with Dixit was:
Dixit Quest

and one I had not heard about previously, but looks like it will go just perfectly with my group and my family:
Parade

Thanks so much, Santa! These will get played often to be sure!

Thanks Santa!

EDIT 12-23-2010

I have just received a second package from my Santa. Having received a cryptic message that Christmas wasn't over I was left wondering what Santa had meant. I found out yesterday after arriving home from a trip. An unexpected package. I opened it up to find a treasure trove of goodies. Chief amongst them was Twilight Struggle. Followed by Mille Bornes. And rounded out by Blokus Duo. This was completely unexpected after receiving All Things Zombie: The Boardgame a few weeks back. So thank you so much Santa for going above and beyond to make this a truly wonderful Christmas.
