For those of you who are new to the Secret Santa List:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order.

In years past this list has been heavily monitored as the gifting season approaches and I am sure the same will hold true this year.

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

"2009 List"

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

"2006 List"

To see Simon Hunt's statistical breakdown of previous years' Secret Santa:

UPDATE New list: Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2010

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2009

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2008

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2007

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2006

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

Woo hoo! Hurray! Jump up and down!

ninja

I have a box!

A BIG box!

Last night I had a note in the mailbox saying the post office had attempted to deliver a package requiring a signature and I would need to pick it up from the post office.

Now, I tried not to get too excited...we've got some stuff coming in the mail...perhaps it was just that. Maybe it was something from work. Lots of things it could be other than A SECRET SANTA PRESENT!!!!!!

However, I got out early today so I could stop by the post office. And...it is from Santa!!!! Hurray!!!! Santa must not have scrutinized my goodness level too closely! (either that or I've got a lot of coal...)

I took a pic, but I'm afraid it really doesn't do the box justice. Its big. At least the size of a few normal games. (Doesn't mean it is a few normal games. Could be tons of packing. Or one big brick! ) Heavy. Very heavy. According to the label, its 5.7 kg. Its from FunGamesCafe.com in Canada. Oooh, I suspect a Canada Santa! Hmmm...why would they order have it shipped directly from an online store but not one in the US? Perhaps something not available in the US? Or maybe its just their favorite store?

Well, I am in NO way flipping out with excitement and curiosity. surprise

This is AWESOME! And I don't even know whats in it yet

My birthday is this weekend...so perhaps it will get opened as a birthday present. That's a good excuse, right?

More details to come!

THANKS SANTA!

--------------------------------------------------

UPDATE: Later that day...

I didn't come home early just to open the box. Really. Only because I got delayed by a last minute problem at work and couldn't go home early, but I still get credit for not being that impatient, right?

I don't have babies or cats to use for scale, but here's at least the box with my hand. That really isn't nearly as exciting as a baby or a cat, is it? Well, just pretend its a very furry hand.

Opening the box, I find a card from FunGamesCafe with a note from Santa wishing me well and saying I have great taste in games. Thanks Santa! And then...I discover a mysterious box inside the box! Ooh, its layers of boxes!

But right beneath it is - another box!!

Holy cow! Two wrapped packages and I'm not even halfway through the box!

Beneath that is a few goodies from FunGamesCafe (I assume) - some little candies, and some very cool FunGamesCafe dice (mottled blue and red - I love dice!)

And something else...a small dice bag. A small nice cloth dice bag with metal dice inside! COOL!!!!

Did I mention I love dice? This is a fantastic little bonus!
(That's Lisa's hand in that picture by the way. You can pretend its furry to, but its really not. Neither is she. She is smallish and cute though).

But that's not all. Digging down further, I find - the bottom of the box. No, wait, that's not the bottom of the box. That is a box so big it fits exactly inside the bigger shipping box.

With much turning and shifting, I get it out - and another beneath it!!!

In addition to the metal dice, there are a whopping FOUR wrapped presents in the box!

Clearly, Santa did not research me, because there's no way I've been this good.

I was floored. I'm still in shock.

(Dramatic re-enactment)

Of course, now I'm overwhelmed with indecision. Do I open them now? Save them for Christmas? Open them on my birthday? Open one now, one on my birthday, one on Christmas and one on...um...a random day decided by rolling a cool metal die?

Decisions, decisions!

THANK YOU SO MUCH SANTA!!!!!!!

(There will probably be more thanks when I actually start opening )

Oops - I was so excited I forgot to post the picture of all the presents!

---------------------------------

UPDATE: Yet later that day...

After much soul searching and indecision and contemplation of what would make me happiest, I decided I couldn't possibly wait on everything. That's just not human!

So I opened one of the small ones! And I shall open another one on my birthday, and the other two...um, whever I get too impatient. Little hope of actually lasting until Christmas!

Last Night on Earth: Hero Pack 1

Woo hoo! Celebrate Christmas by killing zombies! Awesome. Last Night on Earth was a big hit from a Secret Santa a while back. Hm...I have a sneaking suspicion there might be more zombied themed goodness still wrapped up...

Thanks Santa!!

---------------------------------

UPDATE: Ok, I really had thought I might wait until Christmas. But...the Denver Games big party and game exchange is this weekend. I wouldn't want to accidentally pick a game that I would then get from Santa, would I now? Plus, games I opened now could get played at Denver Games, thus spreading the gaming joy! See, I was just thinking of others. Very Christmasy!

The other small package contained, as I suspected, yet more zombie goodness:
Last Night on Earth: Survival of the Fittest

Woo hoo!

The next big package continued the Flying Frog theme, with their new game:
Invasion from Outer Space: The Martian Game

Awesome! Though, this may require some minis painting!

And finally, departing from the Flying Frog theme:
World of Warcraft: The Adventure Game

I've been wanting to try this for a long time. Yay!

Santa, I am totally amazed by your generosity. Thank you so much, and I will enjoy all of these - even if it may take me a while to get to actually play them all!

Well - history repeats itself..shake Last Friday I received a slip from the post office that the SS package had arrived - I visit the post office enduring the long queues, excited I get back to the house, I lay down the box and turn to lift up the baby from the pram, I turn around and the box is gone!

The same self-appointed Guardian of Yule-Tide Archaic Gift Traditions, aka my wife, had taken the box and hid it. Now this happened last year, but this time I had learned something and I have a new weapon. Up to the attic, a quick santa dress-up of the baby, back down with the idea to "take a Christmas picture with baby santa and the package to post as evidence on BGG that I had received my SS package". Of course, my wife agrees that it would be adorable, without understanding my true motives. By taking pictures of the baby standing in front of the box I have an approximate height of the box (see below) and by having her lay beside it I have the length (see below), I also lifted the box so I know an approximate weight... I would say I pretty much blindsided my wife with this one...

Now I will get down to some database mining to figure out what games it could be ninja

YES!

(Not so) Secret Santa, you are AWESOME! (Don't worry, despite my curiosity, I'm not going to track you down -- your secret's safe!)

I've been wanting Carson City for a good long while now, so I'm very, very excited to finally have a copy. Today's a vacation day for me (random, fortuitous coincidence!), which means I opened your package hours before I would have been able to normally. And good thing, too -- the mystery box would've driven my kids crazy with anticipation, because my asking every day if my Secret Santa package arrived has served to amp up their excitement to (nearly) match my own. (You should have heard me scream, "OH MY GOD LOOK, THERE'S A PACKAGE ON THE STEPS!" when we got back from school pickup, and seen their faces light up with shared, barely comprehending, ecstatic fervor, knowing that, finally, It Had Arrived.) Plus, you beat the Hanukkah deadline by a comfortable two hours, proving that you know all and can do anything.

Enough blather. There are tiles to be punched, and rules to be perused. Secret Santa, you rock! I hope that your Secret Santa experience has been/is/will be as exciting as mine has been. Thank you for the stellar game, and happy holidays!

Came home yesterday to a note in my postbox that a neighbor has signed for a package. Said ENORMOUS box was waiting happily and dryly on my door step as I climbed up the stairs to my door.

Inside was my number one pick of Thunderstone. Looking forward to the solo-player rules. Happy days of monster hunting when noone else is around to play.

But to my wondrous surprise, the box contained also Small World
. I loved Vinci, but it didn't make the cut when I moved to Germany, so this is a welcome replacement. And Fantasy is always awesome.

Thank you Secret Santa. Such a wonderful surprise after a long day at work. Made me feel a bit guilty that my gift to send was sitting waiting for the postoffice. I did manage it today, so I can enjoy the new games without guilt.

I received a message from Santa letting me know I was on his "nice" list. I know, right? I didn't see any reason to correct the nice old man, besides there are naughty people getting more than they deserve all the time, especially in today's world. Why can't I stick my fingers in the pie too?

A week ago I open my inbox and notice another mail from Santa. Uh oh! He must have found the mix up. It was worth a shot. Open up the message and the ruse is still on. He's sending my gifts. So yesterday I go home for lunch and find a big package at my doorstep. It's not heavy enough to be coal, so I'm okay there. I'm giddy with excitement. I can't wait to open it but I decide to wait and not open it. That decision lasted about 30 minutes. Finished with lunch I tear open the package.

And a set of the prepainted miniatures to go with it.

Thank you, Santa! You're the best!

p.s. I'll be better next year! I hope. Maybe, but probably not.

Thank you Secret Santa

My package arrived today and my son and I had a blast tearing into it.

The box contained 3 wrapped gifts from our friends at Thought Hammer. two small and one large. The first to be opened was Arkham Horror: The King in Yellow Expansion. After open this my son proceeded to open the other small box which contained Arkham Horror: Curse of the Dark Pharaoh Expansion. The last gift and the largest, I got the pleasure of opening. To my surprise was probably one of my most wanted non-wargames, Sid Meier's Civilization: The Board Game

Thank you Santa,

Thanks you and Merry HOHO,

Yay!!! It's here!

I had a great Santa that got in touch early on, but with this time of year and all he couldn't quite keep up regular communication - fair enough, he is a busy man after all!

A couple of days ago he let me know that he hadn't forgotten about me and the necessary arrangements had been made - but not to get too placid for he was still watching me! ninja

This morning a package was delivered and after dreaming of what it could be I was totally surprised and thrilled to discover Factory Manager!

Thank you heaps Santa! A great gift which i'm sure will be the talk of the household and gaming group for many reasons!

Merry Christmas to you and yours and a fun-filled New Year!

I got home today to discover a package from an unknown address - so it was either a terrorist's bomb or my Secret Santa's present.

I opened the box and found, among the peanuts, a wrapped present with byronczimmer emblazoned across the front.

Excellent! It has arrived.

But it's wrapped!

I have the honor of heading out to my sister's this holiday and will be taking the train to get there and flying back. It's too large to pack for the train trip so I have a dilemma. Do I open it now, so my wife can figure out what on my wishlist she can go buy - or do I torture myself?

I leave it to Santa to let me know.

THANK YOU SANTA for what ever is in the pretty wrapping paper!

-=-=-=-=-

Santa got in touch with me and let me know that since my holidays will be spent far away from my own home that I could go ahead and open my gift.

Inside the really BIG BOX was... Alhambra BIG BOX!

I've played Alhambra multiple times, but always on other people's copies, and I'd been eyeballing the big box for a while since it's an all inclusive catch up party.

Great gift Santa! Thank you very very much!

AND

I have been having a terrible week, trying to get over bronchitis. Then my wife calls me while I am driving home from work today and tells me my Secret Santa gift has arrived. Suddenly I felt great! I have an hour commute and I spent the whole drive wondering what I got and hoping it was Ascension. I finally got home and opened the package to find not one, but TWO games, and one of them WAS Ascension. Woot Woot! And on top of all that I got a goodie bag of big pretzel sticks covered in chocolate, yogurt, strawberries, coconuts, peanuts and mint. Plus a sweet Christmas card too!

THANK YOU SO MUCH SANTA!

YOU ROCKED IT!

Fred

Yay, Secret Santa!!!

I got a delivery from UPS tonight with two boxes I was expecting and one I wasn't: The one I was not expecting was from Troll & Toad, so I figured Santa and his elves were making a surprise stop by my house!

And I was right!

Inside was Agricola, which I've never played but am very much looking forward to! So cool! (It wasn't wrapped, so I didn't have to wrestle with the moral dilemma of whether to wait till Dec 25th to open the gift!)

Great job, Santa! Thanks for the game!

I forgot that I had changed my address to the in-laws place (I am moving shortly, and didn't know where that would be to, or when), and was surprised to get the call tonight: Santa had had his elves at CSI deliver a present for me!

Since I am Jewish, and it's Hanukah, I had my newMom open my present and tell me what it was. I have been wishing for this for quite some time, now, and I look forward to playing this with my wife and in-laws next weekend! It's Glen More! Woo-hoo!!!!

Much to my surprise, the was more! Santa thoughtfully included Runebound: Sands of Al-Kalim, and the elves also had a CSI Gift Certificate to boot! Best Christmas Ever! Thank you, Santa!!!!

Santa had perfect timing this year! The package came in yesterday, just hours before lighting the candles on the last night of Channukah! What a wonderful way to end the holiday! (And way better than playing dreidel! )
I can't wait to get to play this - it's been so long since I've had a good game of Power Grid! Thank you, Santa!

My Procrastinator Secret Santa is the best! No holds barred!!

I received my package today. Inside, there were two wrapped presents and a snowman card.

The card was very clear on opening instructions:
1) If I'd already opened my other SS gift, I'd have to wait until Xmas to open this one.
2) If I've waited to open my other SS gift, then I could go ahead and open this one.
3) If my other SS didn't leave any instructions, I could open one of these gifts now.

I had to do some quick thinking though. Because I hadn't received my other SS gift, I decided that when I did receive it, I would wait until Xmas to open it. *Wipe away some sweat from my brow*

Off I was to opening my two presents!

First there was Le Havre, #1 on my wishlist! I love Agricola and I can't wait to crack this one open!

Then there was Battle Line, #2 on my wishlist.

I don't care wait they may say. This Santa is no procrastinator when it counts!

I am absolutely thrilled!

Thank you, Procrastinator Secret Santa! You've set a high bar for regular Secret Santa!

Okay, Secret Santa... I didn't have any direction as to wait or not wait, so I lasted approximately three hours. Very proud of myself for my first go round at this Secret Santa thing. And thank you so much for getting it wrapped! In an age where the box from Amazon is the exciting part, it was a pleasure tearing them open.

So first up was Founding Fathers, which is a game I wanted even more after having very recently rediscovered 1960 these past two weeks, so obviously Santa is psychic in that regard. But on top of that, I also got

Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization

and

Perry Rhodan: The Cosmic League

which I've never heard of but looks pretty awesome.

Thanks Secret Santa, I can't wait to play these!

Happy Holidays!
Age-Appropriate Jake.
