For those of you who are new to the Secret Santa List:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order.

In years past this list has been heavily monitored as the gifting season approaches and I am sure the same will hold true this year.

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

"2009 List"

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

"2006 List"

To see Simon Hunt's statistical breakdown of previous years' Secret Santa:

UPDATE New list: Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2010

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2009

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2008

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2007

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2006

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

Yesterday I received a package from Germany. Great timing Geheim Sinterklaas! The present arrived just before christmas.

After getting the packaging off I found no less than four wrapped presents, a few CD's with Tannhäuser (could it be a hint) by Richard Wagner and a very nice card. My Secret Santa had written the card (and the previous geekmails) in Dutch which was great and funny. Grammatically German and Dutch are quite close so everything was very easy to understand but not quite correct Dutch. Still it was a great gesture and highly appreciated!

As the presents were wrapped I could have put them under the tree. But unlike some other wives I've read about, my wife told me I had to open everything straight away. I think she was more curious than me. So here it goes:

Wow, four items from the very top of my wishlist! This is the greatest Geheim Sinterklaas ever! Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

Egizia

A game I've played in the Yucata tournament and absolutely loved. Just didn't get round to buying it myself yet. Great choice Secret Santa!

Tannhäuser Revised Edition Rulebook

I really wanted this. As I've been an early adopter of the game so I have all the boxes in French. Not my best language. So having the revised ruleset in English is just great. So the opera was a hint!

Space Hulk: Death Angel – The Card Game

I've had my eye on this little card game for a while and look forward to finally being able to give it a go. Looks like a great game for me and my son!

Power Grid: Brazil/Spain & Portugal

Power grid is one of my absolute favorites. So a new map is always great. The box to pack all the expansion boards in is a great bonus as they really didn't fit in the original box anymore.

And now credit where credit is due. My Secret Santa was not very secret this year. I don't know if it was an accident or on purpose but my Geheim Sinterklaas outed himself in the very first geekmail. It's:

Many thanks to Mork, the little elf who has been keeping me informed about all the shenanigans that have been going on up in Lapland.

I also received:
Small World: Cursed!

Leaders of Small World

and:
Rat Race

but not before I was put through the mill and given the impression that I was being sent something I truly despised. One of the naughty little elves even went so far as to pack Rat Race in a mockup Star Fleet Battles box! I tell you I almost cried...

Bravo Mork and thank you for my gifts and the adventure you took me on to get to them. Hopefully you'll be assigned to another lucky boy or girl next year - I don't think my nerves can take a repeat performance!

This was my first experience of BGG Secret Santa and Mork has ensured that I'll never forget my first time.

For everyone else wondering what I'm going on about here are my 'Messages from Mork'

Message 1
Subject: Greetings from the North Pole
Greetings!
My name is Mork, the elf shift manager of the North Pole present distribution center. Regrettably, I must inform you that one of the elves spilled his egg nog all over several wish lists that were entered into processing so we are not able to figure out who belongs to which list. Don't worry, the elf who spilled the nog is currently being punished for his error and he is out shoveling reindeer poo at the time of writing this.

Anyway, we think we may have the presents figured out and before you know it you will be opening your very own punched copy of StarFleet Battles or Starfire this holiday season!

Oh NO! Another elf just spilled his egg nog on some of the presents! I must go and attend to this matter before Santa arrives for his daily inspection of our facility.

Sincerely,
Mork, (Elf #215, chief of North Pole present wrapping and distribution)

Message 2
Subject: Update from Mork
Greetings Andrew,

This is Mork again from the North Pole present distribution center. I was just informed by the egg nog clean-up crew that your present was completely soaked in the nog spill. While some of my lazier elf counterparts say that we should give the soggy present anyway, as manager of the present distribution center, I feel it is unacceptable to send you the present dripping in egg nog.

As much as you were looking foward to opening up a copy of StarFleet Battles this year, I think we will need to find a suitable alternative. (Unless of course you would like us to hunt down a replacement copy of StarFleet battles for you.)

Using some of Santa's connections in the UK as well as in the US, you should expect a parcel from the UK as well as a smaller parcel from the US. Santa's contacts have assured me that these parcels will be free of egg nog. Santa himself has further instructed me to tell you to wait until Christmas to open your presents.

As far as the egg nog incident here, we have identified the culprit who apparantly spiked the egg nog with brandy. As a consequence, Santa has imposed a ban on brandy in the elves egg nog until after Christmas.

On behalf of all of us elves here at the North Pole present wrapping and distribution center, I wish you a very Merry Christmas!

Sincerely, Mork

Message 3
Subject: Update from Mork
Greetings from the North Pole!

Hopefully you have received one if not both parcels by now. I trust that you have not opened them yet? Hopefully the parcels have arrived without any eggnog residue on them.

I did want to give you an update however. The elf who was responsible for spilling the eggnog and was fired from his post, recently went missing. He showed up at work shortly after he was fired, and he was very angry. We have evidence on some of our security cameras that he stole a whole stack of wishlists, yours being one of them. We even have some audio recorded where he is muttering something to the effect of making sure people get things rated high on their wishlists. We believe that your list where you have Starfire rated as a "2" for what we can assume means "love to have" may have been in that stack. Also, we recently noticed that in our game warehouse that some copies of Block Mania and Mega Mania have gone missing. We are not sure who took them or where they went, but we are currently investigating that.

Anyway, it may certainly be possible that you may receive one last and final parcel in the mail. I must caution you that this rogue elf is reckless and unreliable. He may send you a game on your list, or it may not be on your list. It may not even be a game at all. For all we know it could be a little cup filled with eggnog sloshing around inside a box.

If and when your receive this third parcel (which may be in 1-2 weeks), then I will give you the option of waiting until Christmas to open them all, or you can open them when the third parcel arrives. Certainly, Santa would prefer that you wait until Christmas to open them. When you do open the presents then please make sure you post all of the items to the geeklist for all of us elves to see.

And if you do receive a big mug of eggnog in the mail, then I appologize in advance for the mess on your doorstep.

Best wishes,
Mork

Andrew,

Mork here from the North Pole present wrapping and distribution center.

Our sources in our mail tracking department do in fact confirm that that renegade elf who was fired did in fact send you a package. It appears that it was sent from the US. So, that means that you should have a total of three packages that should have arrived with a total of 4 presents.

Did you receive any or all of these packages yet? Did any not arrive?

If you could, please send us a reply letting us know if they have arrived or not. And, don't forget to post on the geeklist once you open them.

Merry Christmas from all of us elves at the North Pole!

Thank you again Mork. I hope Santa gives you a day or two off so you can have a very merry Christmas.

I previously gave a public thank you to Santa on this list for DICE TOWN, not sure where that comment is now-- maybe it got deleted. That was for Tom Vasel's Secret Santa contest, which is a very different animal indeed.

To business! I received a large box last night with none other than WARHAMMER: CHAOS IN THE OLD WORLD in it! Santa took the time and effort to individually wrap the items in gift wrap and leave a nice note for me. This was no casual Santa. In the note, he made it clear that he had done some research into the kind of games I like and noted that I liked to "game on the go" (a very true statement-- my children and I make a ritual of playing smaller, quick playing games at restaurants, I have blogged about this subject many times on http://misternizz.wordpress.com). To that end, Santa also included POCKET BATTLES: Celts versus Romans in the box.

Pocket Battles

THANK YOU SANTA!

I appreciated both games very much-- but the capper for me was the very nice note you left in the box demonstrating care and foresight. You really made my week. AND you made it before Christmas!

Observations: a very good Secret Santa was had by all. This little thing we do means a lot to me personally, I enjoy being able to reach out anonymously and increase someone's karma by giving them a present without being observed. I haven't been able to spend as lavishly as some folks on this list but I try to include at least something my target is wishing for in the Must Have or would Love to Have categories. Receiving a present is a fun bonus, too. One thing I'm taking away from 2010 is that I will have to bring my A game for 2011. Both of my Secret Santas took the time to wrap their gifts and leave something extra like a note or a card-- something to personalize the experience. I have just let the online vendor take care of everything, which seems so impersonal now. Not any more!

Lastly: There were two Secret Santas this year that I knew of, and discovered a third for Wargamers (an august body in which I include myself, thought not exclusively) far to late to participate. I participated in both the BGG Secret Santa and Tom Vasel's Secret Santa contest. As both secret santas practiced good opsec, as it were, I wasn't sure who had sent what, so I didn't know who to thank in what forum or geeklist. It's important to feeback to the sender that the gift has been received, so I just said "Thank you" in both of them for the first one I got, which was Dice Town. To prevent repetitive effort next year, I suggest we add codes like "BGG", "Grognard" and "TDT" in front of the word "Secret Santa" in correspondence so we don't get confused. Just my .02, worth what you paid for it.

And with that, Merry Christmas to all, Happy Solstice, and a safe, happy, and prosperous 2011 to all of you.

Walt O'Hara

Today the moment I was eagerly waiting for arrived! A package was delivered to me, right in time for christmas. After unpacking it I had a nicely wrapped present that I put right under the tree.

But of course I couldn't resist for long. And while the cat took hold of his rightful possession
I started unpacking the present.

Out came a very nice looking game that was totally unknown to me! I like being surprised like that . It appears to be a local Portugese / Lisbon game playing around the Castle of São Jorge and the Alcaçova. I'm very curious about it and hope to play it soon.

Thanks Santa!

YESSSSSSS!!!! Thank you, thank you Secret Santa 2010, whoever you are...This one has been on my mind for a long time. First of all, the tempting emails really had me guessing, and when the big box showed up at the Embassy Mail Room (I work at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya), I was pumped.

Rifling through the packing peanuts I also saw two additional add-ins, the animeeples set and the vegeeples (er, whatever...) replacement set for Agricola!!!! That was a real awesome personal touch. Will definitely add to the game's thematics. A real treat for sure.

On TOP of that, I am still awaiting/expecting the arrival of package #2 (according to the emails, Santa's elves were responsible for "sneaking out" a package, e.g. Agricola, and Santa was also sending me something from my list.) Here in Kenya, there can sometimes be a delay of a number of weeks, so I wasn't surprised that it didn't arrive yet- SO, I will be updating this in hopefully about 10 days- sorry, leaving on a one-week vacay to South Africa- it should (fingers crossed) be here by the time I return.

Once again, THANKS- this was my first year participating, and it has been quite the inaguration!

-Tibetgeek

----------UPDATE 30 Dec 2010-----------------

YESSSSSSS!!! WOW! Holy cow, how on earth did my Secret Santa find a copy of this. I have been searching high and low to find this after a game night at a friends' house earlier this year. I just figured I'd have to wait out a re-release from Z-man Games. NOT ANYMORE! The final piece to the Secret Santa puzzle arrived in the Embassy Pouch this week, yeah!

Major props to my secret santa- two great games with a very personal touch. Thank you thank you thank you!

(when I got an email hinting at 4-5 different boardgame possibilities, one of which was Taktika, I didn't even consider it as a real possibility.

sweet.

This morning, such a clatter arose on the roof at the front door. Santa seems to have been getting a jump on deliveries, because I found a hefty box from Boards & Bits sitting on the welcome mat with my name on it!

I was SOOOO patient and waited a WHOLE two HOURS to open it!
Santa would have been proud. whistle

Well, I have to say, I was SHOCKED by the wonderful gifts (yes, multiple!) Santa left me!

First, I found Puerto Rico (pictured above) - A game I have wanted for a long time, but hadn't yet taken the plunge with!

Second, I found Caylus - Another game I have wanted for quite some time!

AND Power Grid!

On top of ALL that, Santa also included Power Grid: The New Power Plant Cards and Power Grid: The France/Italy Expansion!

Oh, and I almost forgot: Thanks to Santa, I have an avatar!

I know there were a lot of exclamation points in this post, but boy am I excited! Holy cow, Santa, you have totally out done yourself - A million thanks, Santa! And a merry Christmas to you and yours!

Santa, thank you for the gift of rats. I don't think it's Christmas without a plague rat or two scampering around the house, nibbling on your cookies, and leaving Christmas surprises wherever they go. Add to that, their friend,
Rattus: Pied Piper
and you have all the makings of a fine Christmas.

Thank you, Santa, and have a Merry Christmas!

Got mine today! Thanks Santa, one of the top games in my Want List.

I needed the pick-me-up. Work got busy and I ended up having to work friday and saturday so I was going to miss holiday festivities with my family.

Life happens, I can live with that, but this was a bright spot!

Santa (c/o Shire Games) sent me a big parcel a couple of days ago, containing two nicely wrapped items. The first one which I opened ASAP was a faction deck for Summoner Wars - yay!

The second, much bigger, parcel - which I think is Nuns on the Run - is still wrapped, and I'll open it on Christmas Day.

I've been on this site for 10 years now, and I'm far from sick of games, but I think I am, to some degree, sick of learning too many new games. I'm also tired of playing 4+ hr multiplayer games, but I'll still happily play really long games 2 player.

And Egizia

How lucky am I ?

Thanks, Santa!

I had started to doubt, but Santa assured me he would deliver in time for Christmas. I found a package on my doorstep this morning, and what may have been reindeer tracks in the snow. The box has been placed beneath our Christmas tree, and I'll post more when I open it on Christmas Day.

update, Christmas Day
Upon opening the box, I found
two wrapped gifts.

Further investigation revealed
Campaign Manager 2008 and Race for the Galaxy: The Gathering Storm

Thanks so much, Santa. Merry Christmas, one and all!

I couldn't hold back. Yeah, I was gonna wait till Christmas, but had to dig in.

Canal Mania

I was totally surprised. I have a couple other games from the Ragnar Brothers already and really wanted to get this one, which looks fantastic especially considering our joy for track laying games. It will get a lot of play!

Also in the package was

Tara: Ireland's Royal Board Game

The board and the bits are real pretty, I can hardly wait to try it.

And yet more!

Puzzle Master 75 Brain Twisters Deck by Will Shortz

Some really fun looking word puzzles for a trip (I'll bring this when we head down to Atlanta in June!)

Thanks Secret Santa!!

It's Christmas Eve and I arrived home just now to find the biggest box on my doorstep, with a note from the bestest Secret Santa in the whole multiverse

To use the Australian vernacular, you are a DSFL, that is a "Dead-Set Feckin' Legend". I am absolutely humbled by your generosity.

Not only did they send me

But they also sent

And...

Whoever you are Secret Santa, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Honestly, I just can say that enough.

I can't possibly imaging how much that cost to send all the way to Australia.

Please, if you're reading this, let me know who you are so I can thank you in person. Don't make me have to hunt you down. I will do it!
