Here we go. I've got videos galore. I started a list last night, but probably becaus ethere wasn't anything to watch on it, I didn't get any thumbs or subscriptions......so here goes version 2.0.

Here's the intro video for the CON.

And a little teaser from Tuesday night

And finally to start, here's a video I took right before check in started of all the people lined up to get in.

This is right before they opened up the registration table. People had been lined up before I got there at 7:30 AM and the con didn't start until 10:00AM

Bonus points for any or all games you can recognize in the video. I know it's a little blurry, but there were a ton of people to dance around in order to get it.

While waiting in line to get into the con, I met Tony. He had an IPad and it was sweeeeeeeet. We played a game of carcassone, and he whooped my butt. Enjoy my 30 Second Review of this new way of playing an old favorite.

So the first game we headed for after we got all checked in and got our free swag was K2. I was really glad. This was one of the top games I wanted to play from Essen. I wasn't disappointed. we played with the summer weather and on the easier side of the mountain. We probably should've ramped it up a little, and we also all agreed that it needed more yetis. From day number 1 I'd place it as my favorite game so far.

Enjoy the video.

So I've got 2 videos here for you. We met Kris at his booth where he was doing demos of his new game, Last Call. We talked him into giving us a short interview to tell us about it.

To be honest I wasn't expecting too much, but what I got was a really great filler game, that's lighthearted enough to fit the theme and deep enough to actually involve some strategy.

The first video is the interview

After we did the talk with Kris we sat down and played a full game. You see Kevin in the video making his first appearance of many. He's become one of our favorite buddies to try stuff out with at the con.

Ah, another game with a horrible portrait on the cover. To be honest, this wasn't a game on my radar when I got here. Kevin told us he had tried it and loved it, so we said we were game.

It turned out really great, and I learned a new buzz word at the conference. "RONDEL" Everyone loved using that word all over the place. It reminded me of Endeavor but with a more linear timeline and progression. There were a lot of different paths you could take to win, and I actually ended up winning when no one really saw it coming, including myself.

Enjoy this little peek at a game that Rio Grande will hopefully put out in the US soon.

SO I really wanted to look at this game, and I'm glad I played it before I bought it. is it just me or is anyone else tired of Catan and Carcassonne expansions. Klaus Teuber has spoiled a great legacy by trying to Catan-ize everything he does.

The game wasn't BAD, it just wasn't good. There wasn't a lot of forethought. There are three or more pieces that are supposed to be on the same crossroad or line at the same time. The board just ended up feeling claustrophobic. The idea was decent, but it didn't end up being what it could've or should've been

Thanks for watching,

Any game that takes less than 45 minutes to learn, play, and put back away can't be that bad right?

Well, you're half true. Isla Dorada is a treasure hunting game with some of the best artwork and coolest pieces I've seen in a while. I just wish the game had a little more depth.

If you have younger gamers and want a game without a lot of steps or fiddly pieces and rules, this game can be great, but with a bunch of more serious adults, it just felt a little simple.

Check out the game, but you'll get just as much enjoyment looking at the pictures here on BGG as you will from actually playing it.

we like racing games. Deanna's dad drove Baja racers in the professional circuit, so anything to do with off-road racing we'll try. this was a really good entry into what is already a crowded field of good racing board games.

The difference lies in how the dice are used. They don't determine how far you travel, but rather what gear your car is currently racing in.

The game is set up in a time trial style race, where if you end your turn in a higher gear you get less of a time penalty than the other racers. It's this time penalty that is added up at the end of the leg of the race to determine who wins.

It seems all my favorite games have yet to be released int he US, and this is another example.

Enjoy this short look at one of my favorites so far

If it works, why change it? I kept thinking this to myself while playing the new offering from the designer of one of my favorite games. I really wanted to like Olympus. Maybe it's because it was late at night. Maybe it's because I really lost badly, but I didn't love Olympus.

This was a top game I wanted to try, but I really kind of got tired of reading the large pile of building options in my hand. I had to constantly flip through my hand to remember what any of the did, and beyond that there was another 12 temples available on the board.

I think after a few tries, you'd get a better remembrance of the buildings and be able to get a strategy, but I kept thinking that the board that you get in Kingsburg for all of your building actions would've been just fine for this game also.

I really want to give this game another go, and I know the designer is out there on BGG. Let me know, I'd be willing to try it again when I'm a little less tired, and give it a few repeats to see if it gets any less overwhelming with familiarity of options.

I love kingsburg, I love mythology, I love these type of games, I just didn't love my first experience.

So the Siren's call of games caught us on the way out. They have a whole slew of dexterity games set up outside the library, and Deanna was looking at this cool table when someone came up and offered to teach us this game.

It's a great game, and I'm sure it's another example of a dexterity game that you A) Can't get anywhere, and B) costs a couple hundred dollars.

Hammers, balls, smacking things, and Laughter. Need I say More.

Enjoy the last video from Tuesday night in which brian loses a piece from the game under a table.

WE had a little time on Thursday morning before the Tichu tournament started to try a few shorter games so we picked this one up. We've never played the full game of Mr. Jack, but we like games like Mystery of the Abbey and Scotland Yard so we figured this was worth a try.

I liked the concept, and from reading the rules we thought we'd really like it.

The main problem we found was that it seemed really lopsided in favor of the investigator finding Mr. Jack. In all three games we played it only took three turns to figure out who Mr. Jack was.

Maybe we just stink at the game, but it seemed ridiculously easy to eliminate a lot of people right off the bat on the first turn, and then cruise to a win.

Oh well, if nothing else it makes me want to play the original a lot more now.

I love games where the time and care was put to really make the theme shine, and Jamaica really does that. The rulebook is sitting in the box with graphics to make it look like a box full of treasure. The rules themselves are laid out like a treasure map format.

The artwork, pieces, theme and feel of this game turn an otherwise relatively light game into a great experience. I've played other pirate games (Pirate's Cove I'm looking at you) and have found most of them to be fairly dull, but this game was a blast.

The mechanic of rolling the two dice, and then choosing which wa the Day or Night dice was interesting, and the combat system was simple and fun for stealing each other's booty.

Not a brain-burner by any means, but a really fun game that took under and hour to learn, play, video, and tear down.

The video will be up in just a minute. There's an issue with the upload from youtube. Thank you

WE grabbed this game as it was being checked in by another group of people. Z-man had a pile of them for sale at the booth, and I almost bought one, but told myself no blind purchases this year (well, not too many)

I'm glad I did. It's a really great game,,,,,,,,if you like these types of games. The flow is really nice. There's a bunch going on without feeling too congested, and there's a lot of mechanics that a lot of people like; just not me

If you like economic games with auctions, blind auctions and open negotiating, then you'll probably be all over this game. I don't. I'm not a math whiz that can calculate the real versus perceived value of items in a game and make an appropriate bid and not overbid on things.

I thought it was a great game, that just didn't happen to be my cup of tea.

Recently I've had a shift in favorite designers. A few years ago Friedman Friesse easily was my favorite guy. Lately Vlaada Chvatil has been getting my game juices flowing (don't even think about that too much, it;ll gross you out).

Well, Uwe Rosenberg has become my new favorite. I always liked Bohnanza, and though Agricola was alright, but now woth Le Havre and Loyang in the mix I can't get enough of him.

I've been looking for this game for a while at my FLGS, and none of them had even heard of it. So when I got to BGG.con and saw Zev had them on sale in his booth for $30, I jumped.

I said no blind purchases this year, and I broke that with this, but Kevin told me it was a fun game, and was he ever right.

I loved it. It brought the idea of finding people to sell the vegetables you made in Agricola.

One of my Top 3 so far from the week. I loved it.

So we got up in the morning and grabbed a couple of games. WE wanted to play Vinhos, but to be honest the rulebook intimidated me and the morning is no time to try and digest a thing like that. WE hope to have someone teach us this game later today.

So we also grabbed this little game. I think it could work really well with 4 people, but was only okay with 2. The rules were really badly translated/written and was pretty hard to really get the gist of what we were trying to accomplish every turn.

It's an area control game with mobsters, and it was okay, but I'd likemto hear other opinions about 3 and 4 players games before I'd run out and buy this.

So I was walking around the previous night and saw this game being played. It looked like Jungle speed but had multiple items being grabbed. I watched for 25 minutes and had no idea what was going on still at that time.

I love this game. If you like Set, Jungle Speed, or the oldie, Spoons, you'll love playing this.

Great little pieces, lot's of opportunity to make mistakes, and even after playing it a few times, still gets you second guessing if you'r grabbing the right thing.

Love it, the first MUST BUY for me of the con. I really want one of these.

After we got done playing 4 or 5 games of Geistes Blitz with random people who ran by and showed up, Rusty pulled out this little gem of a game.

I love it. If you like Arggh! Tect but don't want to smack people with a club, you should get this game. There's a card of made-up Japanese words that correspond to a person card in the same color as the ink the word is printed in. You have to use hand gestures and these ridiculous words to arrange a group of cards to match a pattern. You're racing against another team doing this simultaneously.

It was great and my wife loved it.

So most Essen games get really hyped and then tend to not deliver fully on what I'm expecting (Factory manager, I'm looking at you). So i really wanted to play this game based on what people were saying, but was a little skeptical that it was THAT good.

I was wrong. This game blew me away. I could play it all day, and still be happy. I've ended up playing 4 games of it so far at the con, and have taught a couple groups now.

It's awesome. It's like a tech tree you plant using a M:TG booster draft format. It can handle 7 people nicely, and although you never really care what the people all the way across the table are doing, you get a nice blend of interaction between both your immediate neighbors.

Art is great, I'm not sure about the component quality because I was playing on a prototype model that Stefan from Asmodee had with him so we could have two copies going at a time, but I want it.

Preorder and do it soon. This game will sell out and you'll be wanting it . Second absolute must buy of the con for me. I only wish it was for 2 players also.

I love building games. Blockhead, Bandu, Rukshuk....... you name it i think it's fun. This is one of the best I've ever played. It has a bunch of dexterity involved but the pieces are well made and all cubes so the structure stays remarkably stable while playing.

A lot more strategy than Dexterity, and it's a great looking game when you get finished playing also. A must get for my collection.

So far it's been a really good day at the con for finding new games.

I haven't been thrilled with much that Friedmann Friesse has come out with lately, and he used to be my favorite designer. Now I'm gravitating more towards Vlaada Chvatil and Uwe Rosenberg.

That being said, Furstenfeld wasn't too bad. It wasn't quite a light strategy, and wasn't quite heavy,. but really in between

Cooincidentally that's where I rate it. I liked it but i didn't love it. Enjoy this look at a game about supplying breweries the goods they need to make beer.

I have heard that the other Friedmann Game here is good, Black Friday, if you can comprehend the bad rules. If I can get someone to teach me I'll try it out and do a video.

Afte we played Furstenfeld It was time for the poker tournament. My wofe went back to the hotel to do some schoolwork and I went to play cards. i think she needed a little time away from teh hectic pace of the con. I was out pretty early after a few bad Ace draw beats by my friend the K-J combo.

I called Deanna, who came back a little later, but had put the camera on the charger so we don't have videos for the next couple games. I apologize, but I'll at least type up my opinion really quick

String railway disappointed. ONce again, it might be a lot better and more crowded with more players but with 2 people we could kind of keep to ourselves.

I love the freeform concept and think string could be used in other games really creatively. It was okay, but not too string or interesting. The rules were really nebulous in teh secifics also.

Well, maybe not really, but ended up being a really good time. We were tearing down String Railway and saw this group getting ready to play.

It's a deduction and secret roles game that involves finding spies before they can sabotage missions.

A team lead ( rotates every turn) selects a team of people to go out and do a mission, the problem is that the spies only need one vote to sabotage the mission, and first team to either complete or destroy three missions wins.

Deanna and I were both spies, and it came down to the end. I used dry logic and being really annoying to stop people from suspecting me

The people we played with were really nice and we had a great time.

One of only a couple tens in my collection. As we were walking away after The Resistance was defeated, we saw a group playing this and we couldn't help but jump in.

I'm not sure how much we helped our teams, becasue we weren't there for half of the first round to see who the card pool was, but we had fun and met a bunch of other really nice people.

I was dumb and forgot to give out my card for games Overboard to them. I'll have to track them down for some shameless promotion today

That was it for Friday. I'll see you all tomorrow night.

So I decided to have a booth at the flea market this year. I had some games to sell that I thought I could make enough to buy the games I wanted to take home.

It was crazy. I was there at 8:30 for set-up and got a really good table. The place soon started to fill up with vendors, and started to get really hot (temperature wise that is)

I also figured by being there early I could scope the good deals beforehand and see what I wanted. Surprisingly, I didn't find anything I really needed to bring home before the sale began.

The doors opened and it was chaos. I started slowly but ended up selling everything but a few filler games, and my in-shrink copy of Betrayal (I marked it at $100 not expecting to sell it, but I figured if someone would give me that I wouldn't say no)

It was good and I'll use this entry to tell you all the "swag" I'm bringing home from the con this year.

Freebies:
Architekton
Inka
Terra Prime
Homesteaders
Chicago Express

Bought at Flea Market:
Cornerstone
Tigris and Euphrates

Bought from vendors:
Ascension
At the gates of Loyang
Rattus
Rattus Expansion: The Pied Piper
Carson City and Expansion
Survive! Giant Squid Expansion
Sid Meier's Civilization

So there's what we're bringing back. Not a bad haul, but not too overwhelming to deal with.

Games that we have on the must buy list:
Merkator
Rallyman
Geistes Blitz
7 Wonders
Jamaica
The Resistance

Maybe acquire in the future:
Furstenfeld
K2
Tokyo Train

Okay, enough typing......Now back to the Videos from Saturday!

So this is a game I had been waiting for all weekend. It was always full and I wanted to try it. As I stated before I love Uwe, and the only review on the geek was a negative one, so I needed to see for myself before going to get it.

It was my favorite by far of the con. I give it a 9 out of ten after one play, and this is the kind of game you can see that you'll like in teh future.

Another market type game, but your trying to fulfill contracts to people with goods you receive through shipping and trade.

I liked that each good could be used for one of two resources, but after you decided what it would be you could never change it.

Money is almost a non-factor besides buying some victory point cards that are available. Instead you get rewarded for fulfilling a contract but getting a newer and better one. Kind of like Thurn and Taxis, if some one reaches the highest level of contract and manages to fulfill it, they get a bonus card and that ends the game.

Okay, that's enough babbling. I loved this game, and I hope you enjoy the video
