It's that time again: Love is in the air, and we love us some WARGAMES!

Please add the games that you are playing this month. Feel free to add updates, links to reviews/sessions, and the like, so we can all share your joy (or pain).

I'm not sorting these in any order because many of us like to look at the added games.

If you played a game that is already on this list, please add it in the comments section -- some folks like to add up the raw total of unique games played. Since I am not sorting the games in alphabetical order, here is how to check your game easily:

Let's say you want to add Paths of Glory and didn't notice that it was the first game listed. Here is an easy way to check to see if it is listed:

1) Open a seperate window on your browser and look at the game in question. In this case, you can see it by clicking the link above to Paths of Glory.

2) Scroll down about 3/4th of the way down the game's page to the section titled "GEEKLISTS" (it's in a box with a dark blue border).

3) In the upper right-hand section of that section, it has 3 links: Title, Hot, Recent. Click "Recent". This sorts the Geeklists by most recent to oldest.

4) If your game is listed, you will see this Geeklist listed ("Wargames On Your Table - February 2011"). It should be right near the top since it was submitted on February 1.

5) If you don't see it, add your game. If you DO see it, click the link and it will open this Geeklist. Wait a second until the page finishes loading, and it will take you straight to your game on the Geeklist, so that you can add a comment about you also playing it.

I received this from my awesome wife for Christmas, and if you didn't see the funny story about this, click here.

I have the rules read, and fortunately, my buddy Greg taught me World War II: Barbarossa to Berlin, so this makes a whole lot more sense. I'm setting it up, getting familar with the map and maybe a basic strategy.

If anybody would like to play by e-mail (VASSAL) around the middle of the month, let me go. I promise I will suck and you will probably clobber me, but I'll learn a lot from you, which I may hopefully use to go "pay it forward" in the future This applies to fellow PoG newbies - it's a great way to learn the game.

I have the player's guide. Any suggested scenarios to get familar with the game (from the game OR the player's guide?)

Capt_S taught me VASSAL back in December and we recently finished our first game. Now we are having a re-match. I am playing 2 other games by e-mail simultaneously, and in all 3, I am the British.

It's been a good experience. My initial belief was, and still remains, that it is a little easier for the British to win (all things being equal), but I considered myself a better American player. These games I have played in the last month have made me a much better British player, and while the Americans are more fun (and challenging), I think I am a better British player.

It has been my favorite game ever since it came out, and nothing has changed.

Capt_S and I are also going to play a game of Wilderness War by e-mail.

I think I'm going to be the French (does that sound right, Jon?). This game is so asymmetrical that it makes me a bit jittery and nervous. In Washington's War, I can deal with the asymmetry, but this one is much harder to manage. It should be fun.

Barteus and I are going to kick it old school later in the month, when I'm in town to visit. I have never played it, but I can't imagine it not being good. It has stood the test of time and made Mr. Jackson quite the reputation. I love minigames!

I learned the infantry rules with the Panzer Grenadier: Airborne (Introductory Edition). Now I want to learn the armor rules. There is a nice small scenario in this, and I'll get it (solitaire) on the table for a nice 1-2 night study, so that I can jump into bigger things at a later date.

I've just bought the combined set that has both this and Oosterbeek Perimeter and I'm going to give ATS another shot. I gave it a very half-assed attempt a couple years ago. With so many battles and conflicts (they've got stuff all the way up to the Six Day War) available I think I need to give ATS an honest chance. I know there's guys playing locally which is a +.

Playing this also. But there seems to be differences between the Sequence of Play and the Playbook.

One thing that puzzles me - and we could not figure it out satisfactorily - maybe someone can help:

Turn 1 - Invasion phase:

The Allies try a landing, then it is the Germans turn.
The Sequence of Play says that the Germans have a movement, combat, exploitation and replacement phase (marked in red on the Expanded Sequence of Play) - also here on the Geek.

The playbook seems to suggest that after the initial landings of the Allies the Germans move some units as a response and THEN start their Turn 1 with the Supply Phase - but just gettin' one support marker as by the rules for turn 1 - and then having another movement phase also (bringing in even more troops) and then combat aso.

What is right?

Given the SoP I read: Germans move some units as a response to the landings, can combat with these units, exploit, and then reinforce. Then Turn 2 starts with the weather.

My buddy suggests: Allies land, then German move troops as a response. Then the Germans have their Turn 1 phase - starting with supply aso.

The game looks fine. One of the most random things is the chit-draw in the beginning which can decide, if there will be a landing at all. In one game I could land all my units easily - in another game the British could not even sa foot on land since the German player had the chits that allowed him to move an armor and an infantry division right on the beach to conquer the landings. Beside this randomness at start it plays fast and looks nice. The rules could be a bit more organized but all in all it is a fine game.

ended in a Turn 4 win for the Pope (the good guys). I felt that the dice were generally in my favor as the Protestants only made modest headway in Germany and I was able to capture Florence and Milan to give myself an early extra card draw.

So we decided to start if up again . . . and this time things are not going so well for the Pope. On turn 2, the Protestants played a diplomacy card to start a French war with the Pope - Francis along with 8 troops, many of them mercenaries, popped up in Milan. Looked bad but I had Foul Weather and Mercenaries become Restless so I figured I could weather the storm by zapping a French activation and then sending his mercenaries home as soon as he laid siege to a key. Since the French had no fleet, I spent my first play building a navy in Ravenna. With navies in both Rome and Ravenna I looked to be pretty safe. Only one card was truly dangerous to me . . . Sack of Rome!. With the new French mercenaries, the conditions of the card were easily met - I lost 2 cards (which had to be Foul Weather and the Mercenaries card since my other cards were home cards) and VP from St. Pete's. I used my next play to build troops in Ravenna to replace the ones eliminated in Rome. The Protestants then moved the French to Ravenna! What! Surely he can't also have . . . Treachery! Ravenna falls despite the presence of the naval unit. The French would later in the turn also capture Florence. So turn 2 was an absolute and total disaster for the True Faith.

I'm playing a VASSAL game of this one with my wargame buddy Michael. It's a great! After killing Trotsky early on and threatening both Moscow and Petrograd with the Central Powers, things looked good for the Whites. But the tide may start to turn now. The Reds have the dreaded Konarmia on the board and anarchist Makhno will start threatening the flanks of the Southern white armies next turn. It won't be long and the Czech legion will disappear, causing trouble in the White east.

This time I am the boys in Blue and have so many devious plans it makes my head hurt just thinking about them all. Bill's Reds opted for a campaign in the Mekong Delta whereas I have started in the far north. Too early to tell how it is going, but it is a very fun experience regardless.

There is a chance I might have another game in the hopper with Charles (charlescab) shortly as he is learning the game also.

Jim (kiraly) and I are entering the second turn of our 1-day BV scenario.

To date, Jim's troops have been doing some sneaky things in order to put pressure on my US troops, who are valiantly forming a line to repel all encroachments toward their lines. Well, OK, maybe not that sneaky, but they are massing in a menacing fashion on the bluffs overlooking the riverbed. Meanwhile, his lancers are demonstrating in front of the barricades down below, threatening to bull rush past the position.

Little does he suspect the presence of an M1A1 Abrams regiment I am holding in reserve just out of sight.

My new purchase is finding some playtime. This is an excellent alternative to CC Nappy. It's not quite elegant, but its fast and straightforward. My 8 year old can even grasp it and I can play it solitaire. Looking forward to luring in all my other wargamer friends to quick games of HTL.
