Fantasy Flight Games is one of the pioneers of large scale LCG (Living Card Game) format games, wherein fixed, nonrandom, expansions are produced allowing players to expand their card games with available cards but at a fraction of the cost of CCGs (Collectible Card Games).

It started with the conversion of "A Game Of Thrones" from the already established CCG version to its current day LCG version. Shortly afterwards, Call Of Cthulhu was similarly converted from CCG to LCG format. Afterwards, came Warhammer: Invasion. Just released is the Lord Of The Rings LCG, and Blood Bowl Team Manager is waiting in the wings.

Unfortunately, there were a couple speed bumps. The games listed above all feature a "3 copies of a card per deck allowed" in the rules. BUT the starter/expansions AS INITIALLY RELEASED did not have 3 copies of a card in the expansion for many of the cards, which seemed counter to the spirit of LCG. That is, you purchase ONE copy and you've effectively expanded your game experience without needing to buy multiple copies of any one product. For example, the starting boxes generally feature 52 single copy unique cards. And the INITIAL set of chapter packs contained forty cards: three copies of ten unique cards [10 x3] (good), yet one copy of ten unique cards (bad) [10 x1].

After feedback, Fantasy Flight Games eventually changed the way they release their LCG products such that, at least for AGoT, CoC and W:I, the expansions now feature THREE copies of each card. So chapter packs are a little more expensive, containing sixty cards, but have three copies of twenty unique cards [20 x3].

As of this writing, they are even reprinting some AGoT and CoC products in the NEW format to meet the THREE copies per card standard.

At this point, I realized that I had purchased ONE copy of everything in FFGs LCG product line. But was/am unsure WHICH products have the old standard, which products are definitely going to be reprinted, which products have yet to be reprinted.

It gets a little confusing, because the reprints, with the 3x copy standard, are probably not going to get a separate geek entry from the legacy LCG versions.

So I decided I would do some research, and put it out here for everyone else who might be in a similar quandary. Also to give a central location to find out if/when any of the legacy 1x copy products are being reprinted in 3x format.

Initial (and as of this writing, the only) release has 165 cards over 7 factions, of which 155 are unique.

Therefore, to truly get x3 of the cards, one needs to purchase three core sets.

However, that said, as with the A Game Of Thrones LCG, the predominant opinions SEEMS to be that TWO copies of the core set suffice, as that is the minimum necessary to build single faction decks from core set cards.

There also seems to be generally less of a sense of necessity among geek posters over having to get even two copies of the base game in Call of Cthulhu versus A Game Of Thrones, possibly due to the fact that Call of Cthulhu is designed as a two player game. A Game Of Thrones however is designed to be two to four players.

Interesting side note: a character card from the Core Set, "Steve Clarney," from the older CCG days of CoC, used to be part of the Miskatonic (yellow) faction. But in an apparent error, was instead printed in the Agency (blue) faction.

Arguments that it was unintentional: "Steve Clarney" was Miskatonic during the CCG days, AND the Core Set has an imbalance in that the Miskatonic faction is short one investigator while the Agency faction is ahead one investigator versus the other factions in the game.

Arguments that it was intentional: Fantasy Flight Games has never "errata"'d this card as of this writing. As of this writing, "Steve Clarney" is strictly a member of the Agency.

The first Deluxe expansion for Call Of Cthulhu LCG, Secrets Of Arkham has a 10 card story deck, as well as two copies of 50 unique cards for an additional 100 cards, with a grand total of 110 cards.

In order to have x3 of each, one must buy two sets (and therefore have x4 each, actually, resulting in a similar distribution as one set of AGoTrinces Of The Sun LCG expansion, interestingly enough).

I have not read however that a great many CoC players actually advocate purchasing two copies of Secrets Of Arkham.

As of this writing, there are no announced plans to reprint in the x3 format.

mbmbmbmbmb
The first Asylum Packs of Call Of Cthulhu LCG, like the Chapter Packs of A Game Of Thrones LCG, had a 10 x1 plus 10 x3 for a total of forty card distribution.

At the time of the changeover from CoC CCG to CoC LCG, Fantasy Flight Games had two expansions in late design for the CCG. Instead, they were packaged as the first two Asylum Packs for Call Of Cthulhu LCG. Since they were not part of a coordinated design "cycle" of SIX Asylum Packs, as would become the norm for FFG's LCG releases, these first two Asylum Packs were their own, weird, two-deck "cycle," known as "Madness And Horror." Both decks, as stated above, initially released as 10x1+10x3=40 card sets.

The "Madness And Horror" Cycle consisted of only the following two Asylum Packs:

-The Mountains Of Madness
-Ancient Horrors

Both were a little more challenging to come by, however.

Fantasy Flight Games has announced REPRINTS of both Asylum Packs in the new 20x3=60 format, with updates to include errata.

To further add confusion, the cycle is being renamed as the "Forgotten Lore" cycle, and will have four more asylum packs as brand new releases in the 20x3 format, the next being Spawn Of Madness, not yet released as of this writing.

So in keeping with the layout of this thread:

The "Forgetten Lore" Cycle consists of:

-The Mountains Of Madness (reprint)
-Ancient Horrors (reprint)
-Spawn Of Madness (new release in the 20x3 format)
-Kingsport Dreams (new release in the 20x3 format)
-Conspiracies Of Chaos (new release in the 20x3 format)
-Dunwich Denizens (new release in the 20x3 format)

The second asylum pack, initially from the Madness And Horror cycle (since renamed and expanded as the Forgotten Lore cycle).

Also initially released in the 10 x1, 10 x3, forty card format.

Currently being REPRINTED in the 20x3 format, with updated errata, and as the second asylum pack of the Forgotten Lore cycle.

The third through sixth asylum packs of the Forgotten Lore cycle will be brand new releases, published in the 20x3 format from inception. Hence none of those four asylum packs will have an entry on this Geeklist, though the first two asylum packs of this cycle do have an entry as explained above.

Spawn Of The Sleeper was the first asylum pack of The Summons Of The Deep cycle.

With the exception of the aberrant "Madness And Horror" cycle, which had only two asylum packs (but is currently being republished as a standard six asylum pack cycle, renamed "Forgetten Lore" cycle, with all six asylum packs in the 3x20 format, including the initial two of Madness And Horror), The Summons Of The Deep cycle represents the first normal CoC cycle of six Asylum packs.

All 6 asylum packs of The Summons Of The Deep were initially released in the 10x1+10x3=40 old distribution.

The Summons Of The Deep cycle consists of:

•Spawn of The Sleeper
•The Horror Beneath the Surface
•The Antediluvian Dream
•The Terror of the Tides
•The Thing from the Shore
•The Path to Y'ha-nthlei

As of this writing, Fantasy Flight Games has reprinted all six asylum packs in the 3x20=60 card format, and are all available.

mbmbmbmbmb
The third LCG from Fantasy Flight Games, and also the last one released PRIOR to the establishment 3-copies-of-every-card format.

The core game has 220 cards over 4 factions.

Actually, 4 x 40 cards for each of the main factions, plus 2 x 5 cards for each of the Elven races (which are only support races when playing with just the Core game, requiring expansions before the Dark Elves and High Elves can become truly functional as stand alone factions), plus 24 neutral cards, plus 6 alliance cards, and 20 drafting cards.

There are variable copies of different cards in W:I Core, with one, two, or three copies of different cards.

In terms of gameplay, like Call Of Cthulhu LCG, Warhammer: Invasion is designed to be two-player. As a result, there generally has been less clamor from the fans about purchasing multiple copies of the core set to have a good time. Indeed, one of the mechanics of the game involves elaborate and variable drafting rules, making players generally more accepting of the wacky distribution as part of the drafting game.

But among those players who purchase more than one Core set, most of them seem to recommend only getting a second Core, and with that, adequate variety exists.

To quote gdotbat: "Most hard core players buy at least one additional starter, I have 2 myself and so far thats worked out fine for me. If I ever come across a card that I absolutely need 3 copies of in my deck, I may buy a third, but so far Ive been fine with the 2."

As of this writing, there have been no announced plans to rerelease the core set in x3 format.

The first deluxe expansion for Warhammer: Invasion.

The expansion has 110 cards: 40 High Elf, 40 Dark Elf, 10 Neutral, and 5 of each of the other races.

As with the 40 faction specific cards for the other four factions and 5 cards each for High Elf and Dark Elf, the Assault On Ulthuan expansion combined with a single copy of the Core game brought each of the four factions up to 45 cards.

And, as in the core game, Assault On Ulthuan had variable distributions, with some cards x1, some x2, some x3.

There has not been a widespread gamer sentiment by geek entries for purchasing multiple copies of Assault On Ulthuan to secure x3 of each card. But, like the core set, likely hard core players are purchasing a second copy.

Once again, as drafting is a larger element in this LCG over AGoT and CoC, gamers seem to be more forgiving of the lack of x3 copies.

Assault On Ulthuan essentially seems to be the final third of the Core set, in regards to the fact that it puts both of the Elf factions on equal footing with the other four factions. In that respect, it seems to make sense that for every copy of the CORE set one owns, one should have that many copies of Assault On Ulthuan, to keep relative balance among all six factions.

It is worth noting that EVERY DELUXE EXPANSION following Assault On Ulthuan follows the x3 format (as of this writing, those are "March Of The Damned," and "Legends").
