I have never really gotten good use out of the want to play button...but I thought I'd make a geeklist for myself. Most of it was off the top of my head but I did look at the top 50 list....

It will most likely take me a while to get this list down since well I'm not TOO picky and I'm always happy to replay games I know I like to play. Now some of them are games that I have played before, but if they made this list then I clearly really want to play them again!

Feel free to comment....

It actually doesn't interest me that much per se, but people in my game group have picked up playing it and it is still rising in the ranks....a civ game without a map....

Funny, that is exactly what puts me off, it makes the game look quite solitaire-ish.

hahah yeah that's why I was intiially NOT interested in the game, but since it seems to have staying power, I'm now particularly interested in trying this mapless Civ game since it just sounds so wrong but I've come to realize I'm generally aligned with the geek in terms of what I think is good/bad.

Even so, I suspect it will be a one and done for me, but who knows!

I liked automobile enough to try another martin wallace...though I think the board to automobile is ugly enough that I am not really interested in playing that game again. Plus Mark Johnson loves the game.

It has such a strong reputation that its time to play it. The only reason I haven't yet is cause every time its been played at my group its been by some AP prone folks who didn't seem all that familiar with the rules.

That would make it a lot less fun for sure. One of my favorite games, and there is no reason it should be a long game unless everybody is new to it.

This is probably the best 'wargame' to play when you consider yourself a non-wargamer. It comes with lots of euromechanics and the wargame part is very streamlined and un-fiddly.

I really like Auction games...and this is about as distilled as they get. I could throw Medici and Traumfabrick into the mix, but I don't like the Medici board that I've played and I find the art to Dream Factory disgusting.

Yeah I totally agree, the bits are nice, but that is one heck of a board! In fact, since I do a lot of DIY games if it wasn't for the fact I think the bits are so cool, I most likely would have figured out a way to make the game using legos.

I think I will most likely print out one of those alternate boards after getting it and playing the game on those. The only problem with the linear manhattan board is that I don't know how it might affect the godzilla variant.

It was a while back, I'd almost say it was in a 2009 year in review episode done in 2010 or something. I like GG&G but they are decidedly in the cult of the new so I take their enthusiasm with a grain of salt...especially since they aren't really card players (Tichu, Triumvarate, etc.). But a good thing about a podcast like that is you run into the funkiest small publishing house games.

Is this due to a lack of desire on your part or just too much new stuff all around? To be honest, the game sounds interesting, but not nearly enough to shell out the $50 to get it in the USA.
