None.

General Rule: If the game is pleasant enough so that I like from the start, then adding extra gee-gaws does not really enhance my experience. In fact the extra distraction is probably a detraction.

This expansion features a lot of content and an equal amount of fun. The invader player (evil guy) with the new miniatures now has a decent amount of different monsters to choose from, the marines get more different cards (abilities), there is an alternative event card deck, two multiplayer mods (deathmatch and capture the flag, with additional marine miniatures), different difficulty levels and a lot of other pieces (new map tiles, tokens for different options etc) and of course new scenarios.

This is my favorite Carcassonne expansion. We like the builder; even though it's inclusion dramatically effects the game, we deemed it essential to unlocking more strategic diversity. The good tokens are nice because they allow a kind of counter-intuitive way to score, making other players want to close your cities and the opposite. We don't often play with the pig as it seems a little superfluous. We try and keep the rules as simple as possible in an attempt to include the "greatest hits" of the expansions.

We currently use in addition to the base:

Carcassonne: Traders & Builders - no pig, take out 1 meeple and add "big meeple"
Carcassonne: Inns & Cathedrals - complete
Carcassonne: The Princess & the Dragon - no fairy
Carcassonne: Cult, Siege and Creativity - just the siege
--several "plain" but unique tiles from other expansions.

Tried to "pair" tiles down to take out "plain" tiles for their exact expansion fueled clone.

We prefer Carcassonne: The Castle for vanilla carc.

That said, as an early adopter, I enjoyed all of the Alhambra expansions, the last one a smidgen or too above the rest (which is a minority opinion). Unless I am introducing Agricola to new players, I will definitely add in Farmers of the Moor into my Agricola games. Here are the reasons:

i) The last player usually has very few options in the base game, especially in the first couple of rounds. This expansion has given every one a lot more options and this really improves the lot of the last player.

ii) Wood can be tight in the base game. With this expansion, wood need not come from the action spaces anymore; There is now the option of clearing your own forests for wood. This opens up more possibilities in terms of fencing and some of the major improvements.

iii) There are more than double the major improvements to pick from with this expansion, some of which gives flexibility in exchanging between building materials. Again, more options for everyone.

iv) The base game usually sees a rush for the renovation action spaces towards the end of the game. This expansion introduces heating to the game and that provides incentives for players to renovate early. Games are therefore less predictable now.

v) And of course, a 4th animal, the horse. More animeeples to have fun with.

Arkham Horror is one of my favorite games. The game itself is nice, and the artwork is amazing. I like all its expansions which expand the stuff that are already there, add even more cool features to the game and have great artwork. Innsmouth is the best of them in my opinion. Its town board is my favorite, I really like the story it's based on and the box cover is the awesomest I have ever seen.

This is easily the best expansion for me. Why?

First of all the base game is fantastic. Secondly the price of base game is under $50. Thirdly the base game comes with three different expansions, Wow!!!

These are not expansions that simply add an extra player. They are expansions that actually add variety, fun and intrigue.

Add the base game price to the expansion price and ask yourself if you are getting the best bang for buck.

Games today are being marketed in beta form if you ask me!

mbmbmbmbmb
The specific expansion I'm adding is the Backlash Expansion, for the WWF Raw Deal CCG. (later renamed WWE Raw Deal, with the name change of the source material). This was the 2nd real expansion to the game.

Most BGG'ers haven't played Raw Deal, but the magnitude of this expansion cannot be understated for the game. Prior to the Backlash expansion, the game consisted of each player using a Wrestler and having a 60 card deck. Each Wrestler had a specific starting hand size and ability, but basically the only people that won were those with huge hand sizes because they had more variety.

With Backlash added "the Backlash deck", which was 12 cards that you kept outside of your 60 card deck. Half of these cards were played before the game started. These cards helped prevent or mitigate bad hands, so that even if you got a bad hand, you had other cards that helped you so that you didn't get slaughtered. The other half were cards that you played during the game, but they were kept off to the side and were always at the player's disposal.

If you have played any CCG, you can surely see the value in having some cards that you ALWAYS know you can play. The Backlash deck made more Wrestlers playable, made the game more complex and interesting, and drastically reduced the number of games where one player completely slaughtered the other.

I'm kind of suprised this mechanic has not been added to more customized games. If you are a Magic player and familiar with "side board", the Backlash deck would be kind of like having those cards available every game and playable as if they were in your hand at all times. In Raw Deal, the cards were specific to the Backlash deck (meaning that these cards could not be in your normal deck and you couldn't have normal deck cards in the Backlash deck), but still, very fantastic addition.

Over time the Backlash deck was enlarged from 12 to 16 to 20 cards at the time the game ended. Raw Deal lasted over 10 years, and I'm quite certain that without the addition of the Backlash deck it would never have made it half that long.

I'm not a huge fan of Cain or New Caprica but I believe this is a must have expansion for everythign else!

Don't get me wrong but the Base game is too easy to abuse if you know how to. Plus the Base game can get stale.

Pegasus thins out decks and makes it a bit harder to know what the best thing to do is for either team.
