PitchCar's an enormously fun game.

The Stunt Track Expansion adds ramps and styrofoam blocks to hold up the track.

Two problems with those styrofoam blocks:

1) What if you run out of them and need more?

2) Some layouts leave those styrofoam blocks in nasty positions on your lower track.

What if there were a really simple inexpensive solution?

Well, guess what? There is!

Jenga blocks!!

The game which we set out to talk about and all of its component parts.

A game which has styrofoam blocks.

A lot of styrofoam blocks.

This is a really fun track and was an early design idea for creating a track after getting the Stunt Race expansion, but it suffers a big problem from the two u-turns that overlap each other.

The problem here is all these styrofoam pieces that have to be on the board. Flicking past these would be insane... and not much fun.

So what to do?

The solution had to be something that could span the breadth of the track and support the track above, not a simple request.

Short of a building project, it didn't look like it was going to happen. Then an idea struck... How tall are Jenga blocks?

There are two different sizes of styrofoam blocks (the shorter one is for holding up the supports for the ramps).

The individual jenga block is slightly taller than the short styrofoam block.
The T is nearly identical in height to the main styrofoam block.

As jenga blocks are wood anyway, wood glue works really well on them. It gives quite a concrete hold.

Simple T's don't work very well for spanning the track though and the support is not as good as with the block, so...

Now it was time to build some supports beyond simple T's. They needed to be able to span the tracks.

To get the correct span for your supports, just use a track section to find the right amount of distance.

What follows are 3 basic designs for supports:

The very commonly used brace: (it is made big enough to just span the track)

The extra-wide, for special circumstances needing a longer support: (usually when it has to be turned at an angle to provide support)

The ramp brace support: (the shorter variety, made just big enough to span the track)

After letting all the pieces dry, now it was time to put it all to the test.

Here's that same section of track with before, after, and track on top pictures:

Now there's no longer a worry about having to put blocks on top of the track or of not having enough blocks. Life's great!

And the great added bonus is that the wood jenga blocks look so much nicer than the white styrofoam blocks too! With so much wood already in PitchCar, it meshes very nicely.

Take a look at these pictures and see if you don't agree:
(and look at how there's plenty of space to get to the track and no obstructions too!)

And special thanks go to my wife, for helping me out so much with this project!

P.S. I have 3 sets of white styrofoam blocks if anyone would like to trade for them whistle
