Just added a new Secret Santa Poll . Head over to [geekurl=http://boardgamegeek.com/article/7924278#7924278]Week 2 Secret Santa Poll[/geekurl] to see how everyone is faring thus far in this year's event. And of course, add your votes!

ALRIGHT! It is time once again for the annual Secret Santa List, this time the 2011 Edition. For those of you who are new to the list:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order. No placeholder entries, please.

In years past this list has been heavily monitored as the gifting season approaches and I am sure the same will hold true this year.

Last year there were 1,437 unique entries spread over 58 pages. I'm curious to see how huge it grows this year. As a tip - if you go looking through the previous years' lists, please be mindful of which year you are actually posting your gift to. There have been multiple occasions of people posting a gift from the current year on the previous year's list. That would likely diminish the chances of your Secret Santa getting around to seeing it...

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

"2010 List"

"2009 List"

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

does a superb job using the data from this list to create his great statistical look at the hottest gifts of the season. This year's version of his list is located at:

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2011

Last year: Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2010

Want some for your stocking? Simon also runs a Secret Santa Sweepstakes which is located at:

This year: 2011 Secret Santa Sweepstakes

Last year: 2010 Secret Santa Sweepstakes

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

If you would like to taunt your "target" while maintaining your secret identity, you can do so using the Santa logon. Just log yourself off and close any BGG windows (if you don't you take the chance of being discovered if the new username doesn't take) and log on using this info:

Username: santa
Password: password

I hope you have a terrific holiday season and enjoy the list!

Dear Santa,
Thanks so much for your generosity. You out do yourself every year. Not only did you send Snow Tails, which I think that my family will dearly love. You also sent the expansion: Snow Tails: The Leap of Death
. This will be great.

But wait... There's more. Also included was Money!
. My family love the gryphon bookcase collection.

AND Lifeboat
This looks like a fun party game to play when we get together at the holidays.

My Santa mentioned that this is the first year in as a secret santa here on BGG. You did an awesome job. My family will have a fantastic time playing these games all winter long.

Cheers and Merry Christmas,
Cheers og glædelig jul,

Thanks Santa,

My wife and I have had this on our to buy list for quite a long time. We love competitive completion strategy! We've never played it, but watching the video reviews got us wanting to try it, but we never found a chance to buy it. I can't wait to find a chance to break it out and play!

Also, thanks for the Power Grid expansion too!

Power Grid: Russia & Japan

Honestly it surprised me to find it because it was under a second layer of packing peanuts and I didn't see it when I got Caylus out of the box. I didn't find it until i was taking the peanuts out of the box to put Caylus back in! Our family loves Power Grid, so a new map will probably be a hit when we get together for Christmas!

This was my first Secret Santa, but it most certainly wont be my last!

Have been eyeing this one for a while and finally decided it was time to move it up on the wishlist.

Isn't the best gifts the ones you would never buy for yourself? Well guess what arrived in the mail today nicely giftwrapped. The family was nice enough not to make me wait until Christmas to open it. This way Christmas can last the whole month.

Thank you Secret Santa for this years gift. I am very thankful that I am able to be a part of such a great community.

After a number of amusing taunts from the large man in red. A box arrived this morning from the local online gaming purveyor and secret santa elf.
Inside was a weighty gift wrapped box positively rattling with goodies and bits. I thought about saving it for the big day, but after a few seconds the words of our Borg overlords won out, "Resistance is Futile" and I ripped open the package.

Thanks Secret Santa, whoever you may be!

Dude... Santa's a lady! At least mine is.
And you know what? That's awesome!

I got sent Battlestar Galactica--a must have on my wishlist--and since Santa's awesome and thoughtful, I got a copy of The Resistance, since she reckoned that I might not always have time to play BSG. This is awesome. My introduction to board gaming did arise out of my involvement on www.mafiascum.net -- where we play mafia (werewolf variant) online. Since you can play mafia or werewolf with a regular pack of cards (and I actually have a special mafia deck), I had an eye on the Resistance but would probably have never got it myself. This solves that indecision.

Thank you Santa!!

Santa Thank you. This year was another surprise from my secret Santa. I received a notification that some elves would be leaving a few packages on my door step soon and on Tuesday and Wednesday sure enough they were there. The kids could not hold out nor did Santa want me too, so the kids opened them early. Thank you for our wonderful games. Not only was there a package with The Legend of Drizzt, but also

along with

Lastly there was a small relic that my kids love. This was a cow bell that was added to package. I may have to change my avatar to say a little less cow bell. The children really enjoy it thank you. Here are some photos of the guys opening the packages.

Wednesday

Santa again Thank you very much. My kids love the bell and We love the games. This community never stops to amaze me.

I actually received the package already on the first Tuesday after the publicitation of the participants, so my Santa was very fast. Not very secret though, because in the box was also his name and the game unwrapped with a price tag...

Anyway the main thing is the present, and it was very pleasant.

I received my Secret Santa's parcel weeks ago, but I have had many personal problems (like losing my job and poor family health) and I haven't got the time to take pictures of the contents yet.

My Secret Santa was VERY cool this year as he taunted me from day one, minutes after assigning the targets. That was awesome.

Not only that, but he sent me not one, not two, but three presents!!!

I have no clue of which games they are as they were wrapped in nice Christmassy paper and I have a strong will and haven't opened them yet.

I will wait until Christmas day even though my Secret Santa gave me permission to open them earlier due to all my bad personal luck.

I must say that this year I'm finding it harder to not open the presents. I am so curious about it!

Maybe I should open one of the small ones as a taster...

UPDATE

I finally got to open them on Christmas day and OH BOY was I happy!!!

I opened first one of the small ones and it was Innovation and it was the iello version with the new artwork which was fantastic!

Next I opened what I thought was JAB and IT WAS JAB! (JAB: Realtime Boxing)
I've seen videos of people playing it and it being a real-time game, I had to try it. After reading the rules, I noticed that they were somehow similar to a traditional game we have in Spain called "rápido" (quick or fast). It was good to know that there were many extra stuff around it, so I know I will like it.

Finally, the big box. I had no idea what would it be.
It was Singapore, which I had been so close to buy in Essen (but didn't in the end because I already had so much stuff...). So a perfect ending for a super-duper-generous now-not-so-secret Santa. THANK YOU SO MUCH! After such a hard year where I got made redundant twice, with a small baby at home and my wife on maternity leave with no pay, it has helped me a lot to cheer me up.

Dearest Santa,

Thank you for your present, it arrived yesterday in very good condition.
As I'm thinking you've asked some local elves to help you, I'll include some pictures of my present and gift-wrapping, so you can check-up if your elves are working according to your high standards... (I'm convinced you will be delighted)

May I thank you for your chose, A game of thrones and Puerto Rico were the two games already on my list before I enlisted in the Secret Santa pool, how could you have guessed? (but of course, you know everybodys deepest game desires whistle)

I'll be good the coming year, so I can expect also next year a present as splendid as this.

Nen dikke merci

My dear Santa got a bit worried because it took the reindeer longer than he had expected to travel from the USA to Belgium. But they made it safely here. This morning a large parcel was delivered on my doorstep by the postal elves.

Santa has again been very kind and very generous to us this year. Not only did he send us three nicely wrapped presents, he also entertained us by sending riddles and poems.

The presents will stay wrapped till Christmas Eve. I will update this entry afterwards.

Thank you very much for everything dear Santa and a Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Update:

I got to open my presents last night. My Santa sent us
- Sorry! Sliders;
- Disney Pixar Cars 2 Sorry Sliders: World Grand Prix Race Edition;
- Sorry! Revenge Card Game.

Those wil give me and the children a lot of sliding fun! We will certainly get to play them in the next couple of weeks as the children are having two weeks off from school.

Thank you again Santa !

My SSanta decided to send the gifts one at a time. At first came the message, that elves had wrapped up a gift from UK and it took it's time to arrive. It was supposed to be a quite innovative gift.
When it arrived, I felt rather stupid - only then I got the pun as it was the great game of Innovation (Iello edition - the beautiful one).

Innovation

It's one of the most recent games I added to my wishlist. The first time I played it, I knew I would love this game. It's a meltdown of two of my favorite games - RFTG and 7Wonders.

After that another hint came that another present was on it's way from one of the Tallinn's boardgame stores. Yesterday was the 2nd birthday party of lauamangud.ee and I got my present there - Roll Through the Ages. Excellent!
I love early gift season!

I was very excited to see a package waiting for me when I got home one day. As usual, my wife glowered and immediately thought I had purchased more games. Dodged a bullet there!

Two big shiny packages lurked inside... I totally tried to hold out for Xmas before opening them, but the cat had other ideas. Right, it was the cat.

I was delighted to see not one, but two of my most wanted wishlist games -- Quarriors and Ascension -- Sweet!

Thank you Secret Santa, wherever you are!

So, I am driving home from work last night, seething about another miserable day and trying very hard to snap out of the pissed mood I'm in. I even switched the car radio over to XMs Holiday station hoping that some Bing Crosby might cheer me up. No such luck.
When I finally get home I find two boxes waiting for me, one small, the other rather large. I open the smaller one to find a very nice note from my Secret Santa, "Stekkjastaur" as he calls himself, which says he thought I might enjoy:

It wasn't even on my wishlist, but Santa knows best. And, he was right!
I then tore open the larger box to find Tide of Iron and I was thrilled.
I was just about to toss the packing box that held Tide of Iron when I heard something rustling around in the bottom. I looked inside and discovered:

So, to my very, VERY, generous Stekkjasaur I say thank you so much. Your kindness managed to turn what has been a very rough week into a very nice one. You've also succeeded in getting me into the Christmas spirit - no easy task. Remember, even Bing failed.

Thank you! And, "Gleðileg jól"

Edited Dec 10th:
Okay, my Secret Santa continues to blow me away. There's a bit of a story here so those not interested in all the detail may just like to know that I received

in addition to all of the goodies already mentioned above.

But, here's the scoop... I have the most incredibly generous Secret Santa one could ever hope for. The first 3 games listed above should be a testament to that. However, there was one little glitch involving Lost Cities. I had Lost Cities, the Boardgame on my wish list, not the original Lost Cities, which I already own. But hey, I wasn't complaining. The other two games were more than I could've hoped for and having a second copy of Lost Cities is certainly not a hardship. I didn't mention anything to my Secret Santa because the last thing I wanted was to appear ungrateful.

There's no getting anything past my very astute Santa, though. Sure enough I receive a GM from Santa asking me to confirm his suspicions - that I was indeed sent the wrong game. I told him to not worry about it and that all was good, but Santa would not rest until things were made right. He tried to contact the vendor, but I suppose to no avail. So, he comes up with a very ingenious solution: he works out an agreement with another fellow Geek who sends me a copy of Washington's War,

Well, what could there possibly be left to say except thank you again, Santa and I wish you and yours a most wonderful Christmas..

Apparently I have been a good boy this year! Thank you Santa!

Christmas gifts have started arriving at my house (for the rest of my family), so my girlfriend and I did not realize this was a gift for me. While opening our packages I was pleasantly surprised to find Hero of Weehawken. My Secret Santa gifts had arrived!

Thank you Santa!

This card is not your friend... I picked it up twice

I could not resist and played a game last night after dinner. I had a lot of fun and next weekend I plan on going to the library and see if I can snag a book on Aaron Burr.

I also discovered that Santa sent me We Must Tell the Emperor, along with the Doolittle Raid expansion.

This arrived during the day two days ago but I wasn't home and could only pick it up at the post office yesterday. This was ideal since my wife and I are trying to have Thursdays as our game night. I opened the package to find four gift wrapped items inside, but since my son decided that going to bed and sleeping is for chumps, I didn't get a chance to open anything or take photos.

UPDATE - phew! It took a while to finally log on again and say "THANK YOU BGG Secret Santa!" These are the ideal additions to my collection, making great games new again. Not only did I receive Pandemic: On the Brink but there was Batt'l Kha'os (don't know anything about it, but it's two player, so that's great!), Panic Station (woo hoo, something that combines Alien with Battlestar Galactica - perfect for a family Christmas!), and Small World: Be Not Afraid... (woo hoo, storage for all the other expansions I have!).

Thanks whoever you are!

To continue my story from earlier, it was a dark and stormy weekend (I've been pretty busy all week, so I didn't get a chance the post this earlier).

Transit was delayed all weekend because of a killer storm, and I was at work the following day when my roommate texted me saying I have a package.

I got home and saw the delivery notice and another package (a tablet I bought from Amazon). So this second package wasn't my tablet... What was it?

After work the following day, I rolled into the post office to get my mail. It was small, thin, and said BGG santa on it. Too small to be a book for the RPG santa, I thought it was for the third gift exchange I signed up for. How wrong I was.

Inside was a note and 32 pages of gold. The note was from my board game santa, saying that this was the second gift he mentioned earlier. The gold was a book I've been looking for for some time - Combat 3000.

I'm a collector of important gaming books. This one is a very influential game to Warhammer 40000, the game that brought me into gaming. It is also very rare and hard to get a hold of.

Thank you so much Santa. I cannot express how happy I was when I saw this. The book certainly has a good home.

Edit: Opened it up! Original post below. Thank you Santa for your super-generous gifts! Here is what was inside:

I really can't thank you enough for such an awesome gift... I will definitely be posting session reports about my first plays of these both. This was my first Secret Santa and you've made it absolutely brilliant, thank you!

----------------------

My package arrive today! It is still unopened, but for how long?

How long until whatever is inside gets to join its friends?

Thanks!!! I love that there's a solo and 2-player variant, to help me first learn the game, then teach one other person.

Wow, what a great Santa I have! A series of geekmails detailing the trip by his elf took from the North Pole to Chicago was followed by the arrival of a large box containing three wrapped gifts. I had plans to wait until Christmas, but patience has never been one of my virtues. Last night I caved in and.......

Great game that I have had on my wishlist for a while. And along with the base game was:

So with the both, I have lots of gaming goodness ahead. And to top it all off:

I love this game, and have been eyeing this expansion since it was announced. I cannot wait to get this punched and out on the table.

Thank you Santa, and thanks to your crazy elf, Palodai! Jake and I (Elwood) will be playing a gig down in Joliet in your honor.

Let me tell you a tale . . .

Every November, I take part in a weird and wonderful event where hundreds of thousands of people write billions of words of fiction. One way I ensure I finish my own 50,000 words before midnight on November 30 is to offer myself a "carrot", a reward for achieving my goal.

This year, my carrot was to place an order with the wonderful Néstor Romeral Andrés of nestorgames. I crossed the 50k line with 3 hours to spare Wednesday night, and excitedly emailed Nestor with my well earned reward yesterday morning. I including the Shibumi Ninja game set that I had been desperate to get my hands on to noodle with some design ideas that are rolling around in my head.

Despite the difference in time zones, I very quickly received a response, and the response was, "You don't need the Ninja if you wait a bit. I cannot tell more."

My first thought was that, in his never ending quest for raising quality and bringing down costs, Nestor had found an improvement for the set, and was waiting for the right moment to announce. Cool! I placed my order without Shibumi.

Late last night, when I got in from a 50th anniversary reception for my Alma Mater (U. of Sussex) which included drinks with a Nobel prize winning chemist (my life is odd, sometimes), there was a package from Nestor waiting on the bed. *edit* Shipped by Nestor - it was actually from my still secret Santa . . .

No. It can't be. That was way too fast.

I opened the bag, and out fell a business card with the legend "Secret Santa" on the back. The other item in the package, of course, was the Shibumi Ninja.

Amazing stuff, but there is even more to this tale of generosity and synchronicity. I know that taunting was officially and unequivocally declared optional this year. So I couldn't have been *too* upset if I never heard from my Santa (though I for one make a point of poking mine with a stick a time or three in November and December . . .)

But my Santa didn't disappoint. I was taunted not once (warning me that my love of AbStrats was going to play large this holiday season) but twice (announcing that two packages would be forthcoming). Coolness!

Not only did Santa send an exciting new game system for me to roll around in in the Shibumi, but they also sent a perfect Secret Santa gift - Dwarf Stones. Here is a neat looking game, an AbStrat / Wargame hybrid, that has fascinating comments despite low ratings, a game which I was unlikely ever to pull the trigger on buying. A perfect combination for a Secret Santa gift! Can't wait to give it a test drive . . .

So let me thank my thoughtful, generous and carefully researched Santa for an utterly fulfilling Secret Santa experience. I hope my target is as thoroughly pleased as I am.

Happy Holidays!

A little while back I got a note from my Santa saying to expect a package soon and then another package a little while later ... I originally thought I'd wait to make my entry, but I figured I can come back and edit.

Troyes was a game I was on the fence about, then wanted, then didn't, then decided I wanted and I'm glad I did. I got to play a test game with my dad and we both really enjoyed it. I think the variability of the cards will definitely make it interesting going forward. I am looking forward to playing with more than 2 though ... I think it'll be a much better 4P game than a 2P. Just my hunch.

Edit:
Christmas in April!! Santa had told me that another package was coming, but I had honestly forgotten. I came home from school last night to see a box on the porch. Not expecting anything, I saw the address label was from ThoughtHammer and remembered. It didn't take long to open:

I am a big Stone Age fan (my wife is too) and I'm excited to give this a try. Hopefully I'll get a chance to try it out this week.

Thank you Santa!!!!!!
Merry Christmas!
