Just added a new Secret Santa Poll . Head over to [geekurl=http://boardgamegeek.com/article/7924278#7924278]Week 2 Secret Santa Poll[/geekurl] to see how everyone is faring thus far in this year's event. And of course, add your votes!

ALRIGHT! It is time once again for the annual Secret Santa List, this time the 2011 Edition. For those of you who are new to the list:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order. No placeholder entries, please.

In years past this list has been heavily monitored as the gifting season approaches and I am sure the same will hold true this year.

Last year there were 1,437 unique entries spread over 58 pages. I'm curious to see how huge it grows this year. As a tip - if you go looking through the previous years' lists, please be mindful of which year you are actually posting your gift to. There have been multiple occasions of people posting a gift from the current year on the previous year's list. That would likely diminish the chances of your Secret Santa getting around to seeing it...

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

"2010 List"

"2009 List"

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

does a superb job using the data from this list to create his great statistical look at the hottest gifts of the season. This year's version of his list is located at:

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2011

Last year: Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2010

Want some for your stocking? Simon also runs a Secret Santa Sweepstakes which is located at:

This year: 2011 Secret Santa Sweepstakes

Last year: 2010 Secret Santa Sweepstakes

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

If you would like to taunt your "target" while maintaining your secret identity, you can do so using the Santa logon. Just log yourself off and close any BGG windows (if you don't you take the chance of being discovered if the new username doesn't take) and log on using this info:

Username: santa
Password: password

I hope you have a terrific holiday season and enjoy the list!

Thank you Santa!!! This was my first year participating in the exchange and I had a great experience and a wonderful Santa. Betrayal was one of my Must-Have games (I love haunted houses). Not only that, but Santa was also generous enough to send two more games!
Jaipur

Jaipur! Another one of my Must-Haves! I play lots of 2-player games and have heard excellent things about this one!
Mr. Jack Pocket

Mr. Jack Pocket! I actually didn't know much about this one, but I have enjoyed Mr. Jack. After opening it up and having a read through the rules, I am impressed and very excited to play this pocket-sized version!

Here are my board games under my Christmas tree.

Thank you Santa!!! I hope you have a Happy Christmas with those that you love, and a blessed New Year. You have made my Christmas extra special this year.

It turned out my Secret Santa was local, and we both frequent the same FLGS, so we were able to meet up and hang out for awhile.

She was absolutely wonderful during the process even through it was her first year. With quizzes and regular messages, she kept me busy and guessing up until the moment we met, and then brought me a game that was at the top of my wishlist that I never expected because of the high retail price. I am so very happy with my second year in the secret santa club, and it is because of her.

Thank you again Colleen!

Holy festive cow!

My Secret Santa experience this year started slowly. I contacted my target as soon as I got it and had lots of fun finding the right present. My Santa was more quiet, and that was ok, until I got a message from him not later than last week, telling me that he was ready to send the present, and that hopefully the customs won't be a problem! They have never been in the past (especially if you mark the items as gifts), so I was eagerly waiting for my present! The fact that he mentioned that there were more than one gifts, including one already opened but looking for a happy family made me very excited!

Yesterday, I called my girlfriend at home to get some news. She was waiting for a package, but got disappointed when it was for me! She told me it was probably for "That Christmas exchange thing", and I sure didn't lose much time to come back home! This big box, chock-full of pretty pink peanuts and not only one, not two, but three beautifully wrapped presents was waiting for me! And included was a very funny letter, which gave me lots of smiles (and the identity of my Santa, private message coming ). And I sure didn't give much respect to the wrapping paper in desecrating it beyond measures!

So, rolling drums... First box, my #1 item on my wishlist:
Rune Age

Being a colossal lover of Dominion and Descent/Runebound/Runewars, this was looked interesting, but I didn't have a chance to try it, until Ludo-Outaouais, a gaming convention. We played and played again and totally loved it. As soon as I set foot back at home, this was upgraded from "3-Like to have" to "1-Must have". The fact that my Santa had some patience before choosing his presents must have helped there! By the way, I didn't lose time, I played 2 games yesterday, even refusing to play a second game of Agricola!

Second game:
Blood Bowl: Team Manager – The Card Game

I love Blood Bowl, I played lots of it years ago, and this was also a game I couldn't wait to try. Having it, in addition of Rune Age, that was just so great. I can't wait to give it a try, and the rulebook was my subway reading this morning.

But that's not all... A third box, same size!
Elder Sign

I'm in heaven. Thanks to what was apparently a little confusion, Santa had an extra copy of this. I bought the app for it, but was too stupid to read the fine print: it doesn't run on my iPod Touch. So I had to rely on waiting to buy the real game, but Santa came to the rescue!

Thanks so much. Loads of card playing and dice rolling coming! This is my fourth Secret Santa, and you guys just keep making it better and better. See you next year!

Woohoo! In addition to some prezzies from Mrs. Claus (some Pop Rocks and a yummy smelling wood-scented incense), Santa's reindeer brought me a broad selection of treats.

In addition to Innovation -- a game which intrigues me, although I really know little about it -- he sent:

Dominion: Intrigue

which will keep my base set and all those promo cards company, plus:
Civilization
which is most awesome! (My old copy is long-lost and never got played. I will see this one is spared such a horrible fate.)

Thanks, Santa! This will keep me busy for some time!kiss

Well played Santa!!!

Dominion is the only game I can always get my girlfriend to play. We have played hundreds of games and this will just add to our fun.

Also, Santa added another deck-building game:

I can't wait to get this to the table. Who cares if its too random? Dice are like that. All I care about is the fun.

Thanks again Secret Santa.

You are the best!!!

Yay it finally arrived!

As I was rushing to leave the house for work this morning there was a knock at the door. I knew exactly who it was, as we never get early morning visitors (at least I hoped who it was). Despite being only half-dressed I rushed to answer the door and sure enough there was a UPS delivery guy with a box for me. Santa's delivery had arrived!

I didn't have time to open it this morning but as it is a large box and I am traveling for the holidays, I will be opening it before Christmas (plus there was no card saying otherwise!) and will update once I have.

Thanks Santa - can't wait to see what you sent!!!

UPDATE:Just opened this tonight. Yeahhh!!!! So excited, can't wait to play this. Thanks so much Secret Santa - this is perfect!!!!

Santa!

Like every year I couldn't manage to see you when you came. I found yesterday a little note inside my mailbox telling me something about a package for me. A kind woman has me offered this morning to bring it again to my flat, but since I didn't know when I'd be able to be at home, I decided to take it from a courier office.

I have gone there with a friend and I told him that it should be a present. He ordered me to open it immediately. I opened the envelope and I found a cardboard box inside. Then, I opened the cardboard box and there was another box wrapped in red giftwrap with a short note from Santa, who else could be? In the end, I have torn the giftwrap and there was it, a copy from Troyes.

Thank you so much Santa!!! Awesome.

I had another excellent Secret Santa experience this year. It started with a little verse in my geekmail box and ended with a package that arrived a day earlier than the tracking number had led me to expect. Inside there was a note hinting at the identity of the gift, referencing some of the comments I have left for other games, and apologizing for the delay (an apology that was not at all necessary - Christmas isn't for a week!). The note was not explicit about when to open but did note that the gifts wouldn't stay in the wrap for long so I took that as permission to open them.

Inside was Pandemic. This is fantastic. I had asked Santa to feel free to go off-list if he thought there was something I should try, and he really came through. I played this once before at a friend's house and enjoyed it tremendously. Best of all my wife has agreed to give the game a few plays before deciding how she feels about it, which is great news considering her distaste for Forbidden Island.

Also in the box was My First Carcassonne, which Santa suggested was for my five year old son. He noticed it this morning, and when I explained that it was a gift from another member of a club that daddy was in he asked if he could join the club too. Excellent. We are going to try that one tonight.

Finally, as an added bonus there was a bag of nuts covered in flavored chocolate. Those nobly sacrificed themselves last night to help me through the Steelers/49ers debacle. Great stuff.

Thanks again, Santa - these look like fun, thoughtful choices and I couldn't be happier with them.

Secret Santa - you delivered on truly one of the most stressful weeks my family has had in years. A slew of things have happened and there amidst all the hospital visits and late night coffee talks - a package arrived from very NEARLY the north pole!

It contained on top a very lovely gift wrapped in the special clear gift paper of the north pole!

Then digging through a case of shoddy elf packing [there was SNOW in the box! ] I came upon a game that I had long looked at - but oddly hadn't really read up on much.

Many friends had suggested it, thinking it likely to be a favorite of mine - and low and behold - opening it and looking it over! AWESOME!

Thanks a ton Santa - you helped make this week a bit brighter.

My secret Santa rocks. Yesterday I received a package containing two samller wrapped gifts and several pieces of very delicious candy. I unfortunately am not a very patient person so I tore into them at once. Inside the larger of the two was the new edition of a game that I have wanted for a very long time. The Game of Thrones! The smaller of the two wrapped gifts contained a very nice Game of Thrones 2011 calendar.

Thank you very much Santa.

I'm very excited to give this game a try, since everybody on BGG seems to be pretty excited about it. Not to be one to just give me what I want there are still two more boxes which have been sealed until the 23rd!

Just got back from my in-laws last night, so now I can finally post what else I got from Santa

Agricola and the Goodies expansion! I've been able to play the solo game a few times and I absolutely love it! I can't wait to meet up with my game group and play it!

This has been a lot of fun. We've had hints and letters, and it's been a family event this year.

The kids got more and more excited with each day, so imagine their excitement when the package arrived. Inside there were 3 beautifully wrapped presents. One of them said "Do not open until Dec 25th". But after a little begging, I got permission from Mr and Mrs Santa to rip 'em open.

First is perfect for the family: Legend of Heroes, a game that's a close cousin of one of our first games, Dungeon. It's like Tales of Arabian Nights, but for the whole family. An out of print game from our wishlist we have wanted for a very long time.

Next was Claustrophobia. Very high on my list since we borrowed a copy a few months ago. My 10-year old especially has been wanting a copy of our own.

And as if that wasn't enough, a box of chocolate-covered macadamia nuts from Hawaii. I must have been feeling the Christmas spirit because I actually shared them with the kids.

Thank you very much (Mrs.)Santa! We've already played Legend twice, and we will play both games many more. The candy, however, is long gone.

Dear Santa: Many thanks for your generosity, both
the Elder Sign and A Few Acres of Snow (which should actually be Wishlist 1, but I've some reservations on wargames!) are my favourites!

As for the green parcel, I didn't open it and I wonder where did you get the idea or it meant a special additional gift. But if I guess correctly (in fact not much is needed because of the unusal shape of the box!), I already have the game and would keep yours intact and pass to someone else! Thank you anyway!

It's been a fun ride and my kids loved breaking into the boxes this evening .

Thank you Dave for all of the hard work you put into your santa geekmail, including some delicious sauce, and of course knocking off two big #1's from my wish list plus the promos to boot. My wife was pleased that the kids weren't just included but catered to. Thank you.

So, my secret santa, who I still can't find a username for, sent me this....

Which turned out to be...
A lovely family Christmas card
Dinosaur Bar-B-Que Wango Tango HOT Bar-B-Que Sauce
Country Sweet HOT Bar-B-Que Sauce
Original Anchor Bar SUICIDAL Recipe Buffalo Wing Sauce

King of Tokyo

King of Tokyo Promo Cards

7 Wonders: Leaders

This is the succession of my kids opening the boxes (sorry, i have a crumby camera phone)...

Thanks again for all the laughs and for your generosity in the gifts and presentation.
Merry Christmas

Hooooraaaay! Elves arrived yesterday! This elves were from UK (according to the lettering on the box) and even before opening the box, I knew what's in there! Very special sound of many plastic trains...

And I was right, this is Ticket to Ride: Europe!

Thank you Santa! Brilliant gift!
It's a great game, that I owned previously, but I gave it as a gift to one friend of mine. And now I recieved it as a gift. Fate? Karma?laugh

So this is a little late since I have already received an AWESOME package from my Secret Santa!

But first some e-mails:
Hello Justin,

My name is Snorky the Elf, and I am the Region 42 Manager for Gift Distribution (Southwestern US) for the holiday season this year. I am writing you on behalf of Santa Claus to confirm that we have received your official registration for inclusion on Santa's Secret Boardgame Wishlist this year. We are most pleased that you were finally able to sign up for this wonderful event.

I am sending you this message to remind you that Santa is getting close to making his final decisions for what gifts to send your way this year. SO, now is the time to check that wishlist of your twice and make sure it is up to date.

I do have one cautionary note to pass along—you might want to reconsider that rating you have for Risk. Santa doesn't take too kindly when people trash what is one of his favorite games.

I will be in touch with any further information.

Regards,
Snorky Elf, Esq.
Region 42 Manager for Gift Distribution

Jjjjuustttin,

Thhiss issss Ccomett, onne ofg Santa’’s reinnnmdeeeeeer (%&$^$&#$ hhhoooooffsss)………

Sorry about that—had to go fetch a pencil to type with. As I was saying, I am Comet and I am currently filling in for Snorky the Elf (he’s out with a toothache) as the Region 42 Manager for Gift Distribution. I just wanted to let you know that Santa has just selected your gifts for the BGG secret santa gift exchange. Once we track down all the games in our warehouse (this may take a little while, it’s a big warehouse), we will sent them right out to you. So, be on the lookout for a special holiday package coming your way soon.

Deerly yours,
Mr. Comet Reindeer
Acting Region 42 Manager for Gift Distribution

P.S. Go ahead and open up your gifts when they arrive, I’m sure the big guy won’t mind.

Justin,

You received a message yesterday from an individual claiming to be the Acting Region 42 Manager for Gift Distribution in my stead. This is not the case—those bloody reindeer and their stupid games—the sender of the message hacked into our computer network and sent you a fraudulent message.

I want to apologize to you on behalf of everyone here at the Gift Distribution center. I prioritized your request for gifts in the BGG secret santa gift exchange last night, and your actual gifts have now been selected and shipped to you. I have ensured that an extra gift was included in your package for your trouble. Please confirm receipt of this package when it arrives safely to you.

Regards,
Snorky Elf, Esq.
Region 42 Manager for Gift Distribution

P.S. You may be receiving a second package from us that will contain a 50 lb. bag of Rudolph’s Best Reindeer Feed. This package is not your gift!

And lo, I returned home on this chilly winter's eve to find that my Secret Santa had left a gift for me! Stealthy! Anonymous! And full of holiday cheer!

If, by "holiday cheer", you mean a card-based simulation of over-the-top brutal sporting contests. Which I do.

In addition to nabbing me one of the games on my wishlist I was most excited about, Santa also gave me:

Tannhäuser: Iroh

Since I am always happy to add new Tannhäuser units to my collection, this additional generosity on Santa's part made me very happy, indeed!

Thank you muchly, Secret Santa! And a Merry Christmas to all!

My package has finally arrived safely! And I only say finally because my Santa sent me a message on November 23rd that it was on it's way. Unfortunately, we've been having trouble with our mail lately. If you're ever moving into a house previously owned by relatives with the same last name as you, make sure they don't do a "Family" forward with the post office, otherwise all of your mail will go to them as well. I had gone to the post office and canceled the forward in mid November, but it wasn't stopping it. Every time I went back they kept telling me that it took time to process. And then I heard from someone else that a package that they sent me got returned as "refused". So I went back to the post office and filled out the forms for the 2nd time.

I warned my mother-in-law that I was expecting a box that might go to their address instead. She finally told me on Wednesday that she got a slip for a package with postage due. She went to the post office and they wanted $9 for forwarding it. She told them that was ridiculous, since I had canceled the forward multiple times, starting a month ago, so they could just deliver it to the original address on the box for the postage paid. They would be delivering it to my house Thursday or Friday.

Well, of course on Thursday we had torrential rain and wind, so I was worried that the entire box would be soaked through under our tiny overhang. I left work early, but there was no box on the stoop. Ditto on Friday. On Saturday I asked my mother in law if she still had the slip for the package in case I needed to go to the post office but she said they didn't give it back to her.

Luckily I didn't need it. My box arrived!!!

Santa chose well! My husband isn't as serious of a gamer as I am, but he loves pirates, so Merchants and Marauders is the perfect title for us.

Also in the box was Mansions of Madness: Season of the Witch which is awesome because I rarely get around to buying expansions.

Thank you Santa!!!!

So my presents came yesterday! And I was super excited! I had 5 packages!

I tried to actually wait till christmas, BUT I couldn't!

Package 1:
Opera! I saw a review on this and thought it looked fun AND I love the theme! As a professional musician (I play in a major symphony orchestra) I have played most of the operas in the game, but now I can educate my friends AND play a fun board game!

Package 2:
Dungeon Raiders...This wasn't on my wishlist, BUT I'm a sucker for fantasy/rpg's and after watching Tom Vasal's review on it, I'm sold and can't wait to try it! This leads me to my next package...

Package 3:
Cutthroat Caverns! I have a group of friends that love to play munchkin, but I thought this would be interesting as its a bit more co-operative, AND a fun fantasy theme! I'm forcing them to play tomorrow!!!! Can't wait!

Package 4:
Forbidden Island! I just bought pandemic a few weeks ago and my wife and I love it! This is right up our alley, and uses a similar mechanic and once again, who can't love trying to find the treasures on a sinking island...

Package 5: A mug from Niagara Falls! I have actually been there (my wife has not) and now it reminds me that we really need to make a trip up there (besides as my now favorite gaming mug) Also, who can't think back fondly on "the office" wedding of Jim and Pam...ok so maybe just me!

Thanks again for all the awesome presents, BBG Secret Santa!!!! Above and beyond, and my Christmas gets to be filled with learning and explaining a bunch of new games (and I LOVE to learn and teach!)

Haven't heard anything from my Santa, I got little worried: where is he? did something happened on the way?

But then - boom! - at one evening when I arrived home after work and opened my computer I saw an e-mail from local game store - actually I'm the co-owner of that FLGS - which said that I have bought myself a game. Come again?! wow

In the next morning when I opened the store, the first thing I did was to grab Mystery Express from the shelf. Great! Looking forward for playing this one!

And Santa, unfortunately I know now what you look like! You are beautiful! kiss
