Just added a new Secret Santa Poll . Head over to [geekurl=http://boardgamegeek.com/article/7924278#7924278]Week 2 Secret Santa Poll[/geekurl] to see how everyone is faring thus far in this year's event. And of course, add your votes!

ALRIGHT! It is time once again for the annual Secret Santa List, this time the 2011 Edition. For those of you who are new to the list:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order. No placeholder entries, please.

In years past this list has been heavily monitored as the gifting season approaches and I am sure the same will hold true this year.

Last year there were 1,437 unique entries spread over 58 pages. I'm curious to see how huge it grows this year. As a tip - if you go looking through the previous years' lists, please be mindful of which year you are actually posting your gift to. There have been multiple occasions of people posting a gift from the current year on the previous year's list. That would likely diminish the chances of your Secret Santa getting around to seeing it...

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

"2010 List"

"2009 List"

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

"2006 List"

does a superb job using the data from this list to create his great statistical look at the hottest gifts of the season. This year's version of his list is located at:

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2011

Last year: Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2010

Want some for your stocking? Simon also runs a Secret Santa Sweepstakes which is located at:

This year: 2011 Secret Santa Sweepstakes

Last year: 2010 Secret Santa Sweepstakes

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

If you would like to taunt your "target" while maintaining your secret identity, you can do so using the Santa logon. Just log yourself off and close any BGG windows (if you don't you take the chance of being discovered if the new username doesn't take) and log on using this info:

Username: santa
Password: password

I hope you have a terrific holiday season and enjoy the list!

My Secret Santa hand-delivered his gifts the day after Christmas - what service! Unfortunately, I was not at home so I didn't get to discover his true identity. He was quite generous - I got two of the three games highest on my wishlist (and I received the other one as a gift earlier in the Christmas season - lucky me)!

I also received:
Woohoo! Thanks, Santa!

My Secret Santa is amazing this year. Not only did he send me his own personal copy of Nuns on the Run from Down Under Australia, he had also included in a separate first shipment - Loot! and the Pandemic: On the Brink expansion!!

Thank you so much Santa! You're very generous!! Hope you had a great Christmas!

Well Santa, I was finally able to pick up my gifts. I hope you didn't think I had forgotten to thank you.

When I went down to CoolStuffGames, CoolStuffInc.com's store near Orlando, they didn't have record of any order for me. As it turns out you had accidentally marked for my gift to be picked up at their South Florida store, 3.5 to 4 hours away from me. But no fear, the good people at CoolStuff said they would ship everything up to the Orlando store.

The day I got the call from CoolStuff saying my gift had arrived at the store was also the day we also received a phone call from my wife's parents saying her Grandmother had had a major heart-attack and that things weren't looking good. So we booked a flight for that night, leaving the gift to wait for two weeks until we returned after the holidays.
Side note: My wife's Grandmother pulled through and is doing much better, although we never be physically back to where she was before the hear attack.

When I finally got to CoolStuff today (Dec. 27) there were two wrapped packages waiting for me.

Ascending Empires - I love dexterity games and this looks like a great civ-light game with a fun dex element.

Catacombs: Cavern of Soloth - Speaking of great dexterity games. Santa also got me this expansion to one of my favorite games Catacombs. I can't wait to try out the new stuff.

I also got a $5 off coupon I can use on my next purchase at CoolStuffInc.com, which probably will be pretty soon.

Thank you very much Santa.

These gifts are wonderful I can't wait to get them unwrapped and played.
No worries about any of the shipping confusion. It makes for a better story.

Also a big thanks to CoolStuffInc for helping sort everything out and being generally awesome.

Just received this from my 2011 Secret Santa (also got something earlier from a kind someone who replaced my 2010 Santas, who didn't come through... many thanks again for that!).

I had three games on my "love to have" wishlist, and of the three, this was the one I was most hoping to get, because I knew it wouldn't be so much a gift for me, but for me and my girls to enjoy together. They are big Harry Potter fans and I know we'll have fun with this. Though I've heard this game can run long, I've also heard it's quite good for a licensed game and there are some variants available for shortening the game. And regardless, I know my 6 year-old will love to just play around with it, in addition to playing the game itself.

So many thanks, Secret Santa! You rock. cool

So, after some back and forth in which my Secret Santa told me I had horrible taste in games -- I think most of the disagreement between me and St. Nick centered around a copy of Funfair I wanted for my kids (and oh yeah, I think I accused him of cheating on Mrs. Claus with Rudolph) -- Santa provisionally put me on the naughty list providing I removed Funfair.

It's still missing from my wishlist.

Anyway, I dutifully waited until Christmas Day, when what should be there in blue wrapping paper but a game about ninjas assassinating people and stealing things in feudal Japan. That Santa has a nasty streak.

I leave it up to the reader whether I have horrible taste in games, judging from one that has wooden throwing stars.

Happy New Year, Santa, and thank you so much...

No taunts, no clues, no hype from my Secret Santa-- just an awesome game that I've been wanting for ages.

I returned from spending the holidays in Oregon to find a lovely package waiting for me at home sent from Moline, IL. Exciting!

Inside, a neatly wrapped, distinctively sized rectangle . . . hmmm. It looks like-- yes, my Secret Santa sent me the Summoner Wars: Master Set, an item I've had my eye on for some time. Plus, it came with the Khexhu Promo Card. Awesome!

I thoroughly enjoyed my first BGG Secret Santa and will be back for more next year. Thanks, Santa!

Superb, Magnificent ...

This experience will never be forgotten. It all started in the middle of December. Got one package and said to my self, "Ok, got it and this is it". But it didn't end there. Got another package and received a letter from customs office that they are keeping a hostage present for me until I present the appropriate invoice for the "present".

The last one killed the mood a little, but fortunately I contacted Santa and he intervened on my behalf. Customs office was overrun by elves and they decided that the gift is declared and inspected which resulted in post office delivery of it.

This was 14 days ago. I decided to wait. And wait, and wait ... and all the family members were looking at the boxes and shook them and wonder what was inside. On the 25 of December in the morning my daughter wake me and it was time to open them.

Inside Santa packaged the following games from my wish list:

Battleship Galaxies: The Saturn Offensive - played and replayed by my wife and me

Talisman 4th Edition: The Dragon Expansion - not played yet but will play it with the game group after the holidays

The Resistance - "party on" superb little game and will start up a lot of our gaming sessions

And at last, must say unexpected but really enjoy-full and simple cooperative game Pandemic - which will be played at least once by the end of the holidays at least that is what I keep hearing from my wife (the microbiologist in the family).

What more can I write.

Thank you Santa for bringing the child in me back to the surface - if not every day at least when playing board games.

Oh and Happy Holidays and good luck with you English students wherever you are!

YESSS!!!!

I waited a lot, but the wait was worth it.

I received this very nice game from my Secret Santa....
I had it in my hand at Essen, knowing it will be a nice addition for my collection and that I could play with my wife but for no reason I didn't buy it then. I then had it several times in a shopping cart but for different reasons (mainly buying way too many rpg's for the moment) I didn't buy it.

So thanks a lot secret santa.

I am very very very happy....

I also receive a coupon from Funagain, I think I will give it away on the
BGG supporter drive free game...

So once again THANKS

Alright, so, here's the deal ...
This Christmas, I have received more than I feel I deserved from this secret Santa exchange. My hugely generous and spirited Santa had to send me my gifts in 2 packages, and having only just received the 2nd today, is the reason for my late posting.

Included with each package, there was a card (Starlit Citadel absolutely killed as far as wrapping and presentation went - highly recommended to anyone next year).

The first card read:
"Thank you for being a great Geek this year.
I hope these games bring you a lot of cheer.
I am not the strongest at using my words.
So please enjoy these boards, bits and cards."

Inside, I found

and

as well as my mandatory copy of

This alone would have made my Christmas day outstanding. Olympos is a very beautiful game, and I look forward to getting to try it. Tribune has been low flying on my radar for almost 2 years while simply never making it to a counter in my hands. Both suit 3-5 players and that's perfect. However Santa wasn't done yet.

The card today read:
"Not all games take place in old Greece or Rome.
Some involve spaces far greater than are known.
I hope you enjoy all your gifts this year,
and with them spread the gift of Christmas cheer."

A clever reference to the two games I'd already received was quite cute. Seriously, I appreciate such things. As my wishlist wasn't huge to begin with, there was really only one thing this package could contain (and admittedly, it filled me with excitement).

It emerged carefully and gratefully from the wrapping. I count myself lucky to have this game at all right now, and it's ... hard to process receiving it as a gift. It's even harder to process it along with other gifts of no small latitude.

Sadly, my Santa is one of the many who have decided to stay anonymous. I would really, truly love to thank him or her by name. Alas ...
So where do we go from here? Well, I had told my Santa that I would be passing along such charity as I received myself. My follow-through on this is simple:
I'm going to buy a game or two for my FLGS, so that there are more games for people to play on Friday nights. This hobby wouldn't mean nearly as much to me without the people I get to enjoy it with, and this will be my small thanks to them. It is going to need to wait a week or two for them to restock on games after the Christmas season though. ;P

Once again, dearest Santa, Edward L. Ferrin (yes, I see what you did there), whoever you are, you have all my thanks and gratitude. I came into this event this year with no expectations other than making another's Christmas great. You turned it on my head and brought me far more cheer than I was expecting.
Thank you.

Ever sincerely,
Nick

My Secret Santa gift arrived on the 23rd and I have not had a chance to post until now. The package contained: A Few Acres of Snow and Thunderstone: Heart of Doom.

I have already had a chance to play two games of A Few Acres of Snow and have enjoyed it so far. I expect to get several more plays from it.

I incorporated Heart of Doom into my Thunderstone stuff, but I need to email AEG for the misplaced cards from the set. However, the new cards look quite interesting.

Thanks a bunch Secret Santa!

Dear Santa,

Thanks for this very nice present - I've received it today.
It was not easy - Hungarian post office is not providing a reliable service.
The first package was sent back by the post, with reason: "address is incomplite or not known." Which was not true - I've received an other package from my nice SS which was sent to the very same address - and the delivery was successful.

After figuring out while the package was not received after a month, my SS sent an other gift - this time to my boyfriend - and finally I've recieved it.
Thanks again your extremely helpful service!
I'm very happy and looking forward to try the game during our gaming weekend where we will celebrate the starting of 2012.

I'm a few days late with this one, sorry Santa!

In a change from previous years, I held off until Christmas Day to open my gifts.

I correctly guessed Dominion: Hinterlands based on the box shape itself. However, there were 2 more(!) where I had no clue.

The smallest of the boxes revealed Quarriors! Rise of the Demons. I was very excited to receive this until I saw "Epic Goo Burst!" on the front of the box. Now I'm afraid to open it.

The last box revealed Artus, a game I only put on my wishlist due to being co-created by the same gent who brought us Vikings, one of the finest games ever bestowed upon us.

Artus was opened and played within 24 hours of the unveiling and I'm happy to announce I enjoyed it greatly. Much like Vikings, there is no reason to ever play with the basic rules. Keep gaming advanced!

So thanks again to Santa, it was an excellent year!

Belgium definitely is a strange country: after about 540 days without a federeal goverment, we finally had one... and the striking began. On Thursday before Christmas, all post offices were closed, no mail deliveries and certainly no packages. The enormous amount of letters and packages on the day after forced our mailman to leave all packages in the office, impossible to carry them all. So there was no secret santa gift under the tree, no secret santa present on Christmas Eve... only this small note that I could come and pick up a package, next Tuesday.

And finally, after 4 days waiting impatiently, I ran to the post office... to have the most horrible answer in my life: due to problems during the scanning procedure, all packages were still locked up in the distribution centre and could not make it to the post office. So I had to wait another day and come back on Wednesday.

And that day, at last, was today. No problems this time, no annoying and disappointing messages... only a nice box waiting for me.

At home, I opened the box to find a nicely wrapped present that would have had a wonderful time under my christmas tree. All on my own, I opened it to find Cyclades, absolutely the number one on my wishlist. So thank you, my dear Secret Santa.

I imagine you arranged everything to have it delivered only a few days before Christmas, probably the best way... but you simply cannot count on Belgian postmen...

And maybe I wasn't the one with the biggest or the best Christmas present, I defintely was the one with another extra present a few days after.

I received a message this morning for the first time from my Secret Santa, it asked if I enjoyed my Christmas present. This baffled me as I had received nothing and heard nothing prior to this. Then literally five minutes after I read the GeekMail, the mailman arrived with a package from Milsims (my local game store)!

I received the Return to Mirkwood expansion for the Lord of the Rings CCG. I have got two other expansions, but I have not yet played them, so I have a short Christmas break to make sure that I get a few plays of these.

In the GeekMail I also received news to expect a little something extra in January, so my Secret Santa story is not over! Exciting!

Edit: Got the second part of my Secret Santa gift today. I received the Khazad-Dum expansion to the Lord of the Rings CCG. Thank-you Santa!
