Recently I have been playing quite a bit of two-player-Steam. Although I prefer playing multiplayer, two player Steam is definitely interesting.

In this geeklist I will list the maps that I have played so far and shortly describe them. Many of the maps are print-and-play maps, that do not get much play. So let's change that, the maps are worth it!

- Please add your own experiences and comments.
- Also please add other Steam 2 player maps that I have not played yet.

I will update this list myself too, everytime I have played a two player map.

Update 2014/4/22: this geeklist has been sleepy for two years. Added a couple of new items and comments.
Update 2015/1/22: added text for Expansion #4.

A very tight map. Importing cubes from two cities abroad Lille and Maastricht. Only build two track pieces per turn. Urbanization doesn't add cubes, so cubes are tight and city growth is important in the late game.

Excellent design for a two player map. Rating 9.

Tight island map, mountains in the middle, green around. All the green plains have a cube on them. There are no cities in the beginning, only towns. Turn order alternates in principle, but first player has to pay 5 be sure to go first, otherwise your opponent has the chance to pay 5. Urbanization is the key. A great puzzle with I believe high replayability. Glad to finally have played this one! My rating 9.

Note that I only played this as a prototype, I don't know if the final release has become any different. The map is for 2, 3 or 4 players.
The two player game is extremely cube tight, so challenging. There is a risk of flooding cities to take into account, which makes the map expensive too. Building is only two tiles per turn. Recommended this map. My rating 8.5.

3 plays. This is an excellent effort. Extremely expensive terrain. The important special rule is that grey cubes must be transported to Malta and Gozo, where they will count for 1.5. Urbanisation is the key on this map. It gives you the power to build your city-network ánd get the grey cubes in the right places. Rating 8.5

Hokkaido (3 plays)
Interesting little map, only 6 turns, but nothing easy here. Cube-scarce, every cube counts. Smart action selection system. Each action available once in principle. Rating 7.

Singapore (6 plays)
Very original and innovative map. Lots of rule changes, this turns the game around in a very good way. Players do a full turn in a row. Singapore is full of towns, almost every hex. Build only one tile per turn. Beware not to go down the debt spiral, it's hard to get out of it. I have seen someone go bankrupt on this map. However, the start player of the game has an advantage with almost any cube distribution at the start. Therefore my rating 7. Rating 9 with one simple rule change: disallowing engineer in turn one. With this, Singapore is the gem of this expansion pack.

I like this map, among the better two-player maps.
- There is an extra colour added, which makes planning your 6 link deliveries an extra challenge;
- There are options to monopolize a colour;
- Networkbuilding is very tight. Map has an imbalance towards the north, that I like. All cities are in the north,so that is where people start building. New cities will most likely be build in the north too. So in the second part of the game a race for the south starts, where the cheap links are from which you can be locked out as well. Recommended. Poland 2 player. Finally got to play this one. Considerably different rules from the 3-4 player game, main trick is in the action selection. Auction winner chooses three actions that are available for the turn. Then the other player picks one first: one of the 3 selected actions or the always available action "appropriation," which works just like City Growth. Furthermore, there is no purple city. The purple new city tile only comes into the game late: it can only be a replacement for another new city tile. Pretty good map, the action selection system is something different, you have to get used to it. Map is cube tight too, so cubes-adding actions are popular. Good fight this map. My rating 8.25

GEORGIA RECONSTRUCTION: played 3 times. Very cool map. The theme is reconstructing the decimated railway infrastructure after the civil war. The map has track pre printed on it, most of it incomplete links that survived the war, two complete links. For incomplete track, the first player to connect to it claims it. For complete links, the first player to urbanize a town on either side of the link claims the whole link. The fight to claim pre existing track is hotly contested and critical on this map, it makes winning the auction very very important because you can urbanize and build first. This is not an easy map, but is among the top 2 maps I've played 2p. It plays in an hour or less.

SOUTH CAROLINA- this is a very solid map. There isn't anything super unique going on with this map like the GA map, but it is still incredibly tight and tense. It also plays in less than an hour.

A hallmark of both these maps is a unique bidding system. The special actions are substantially limited (2 only in GA) and you bid not with money but with a set of goods cubes (either purple or yellow, which are not used on the map). Your goods cubes represent your bidding currency and each auction is a simultaneous blind bid by both players with each player losing whatever he or she bid. Also, whenever one delivers a cube in the game, they add it to their cube supply for later bidding. Managing the very limited supply of auction currency is a critical and unique aspect to both of these maps.

Alabama Railways, 1 play: purple and yellow cities en cubes taken out. Only available actions loco, urb. and city growth. This map features brown cities with cubes but of course you can't deliver to them. To get any delveries done, you have to urbanize. Tricky to play, interesting map. My rating 8.

Antebellum Louisiana, 1 play: purple and yellow cities en cubes taken out. Only availailable actions loco, urb. and city growth. This long shaped map only has two cities and no towns. You can build a town anywhere, then urbanize it. This provides for lots of replayability I suspect. Quite a challenging map. It is all about building an efficient network and fending off your opponent. And it is strongly about claiming and monopolizing cubes in the second part of the game. Rating 8.25

Not to be underestimated this map. It is a real fight for land, extremely tight building. First build is a strong action. Only two tiles per building turn, so engineer is strong too, besides the regulars loco and urb. Ignore the set up rule about cubes not to be placed in their own city colour. It is unnecessary: if you ignore that, it encourages urbanisation. Not much changes to adapt the map to Steam, just agree upon a certain cube distribution in the resupply spaces. Unfortunately I can't remember what we did. Rating 8.25.

Jamaica - 2 plays
Very tough two player challenge. In my only play so far we only reached positive points because of the links in the end: score 4-1, more like a football score. Your loco only gets up to four, so it is not the average build-a-nice-network-and-move-map. Every detail counts. Urbanisation is important, but First build as well. Game ends when there are no cubes anymore, so you can decide and calculate whether you want to prolong the game of not. It is not a map for everyone, I can understand, but it is a real brain burner if your opponent is of equal strength. I like it a lot. Rating 8.

1 play - West-Midlands see: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/48676/west-midlands-2-...
The main feature here is the supply and demand mechanism. Some cities have two colours of cubes on them: one which they demand, the other is the colour that the city produces. The city growth action allows one to change to two cubes into another set of colours.
It is an interesting map because of that supply and demand mechanism. Good ways to screw your opponent by changing the supply/demand cubes of "his" city. I liked it, although I did not find it a very tough map to play. As cubes are being produced regularly, there are plenty. Rating 7.5.

Meant for AoS but I we experimented this one as Steam and it works well. Mongolia only has one city: the capital Ulan Bator plus two cities abroad from which goods can be imported and exported (Irkutsk and Beijing). Each player monopolizes one of those cities. Ulan Bator and the foreign cities have a double refill scheme in AoS, so in Steam we allowed city growth twice for these. Place 3 cubes on twelve resupply spots. That worked well, was still cube tight. The map is not standard, I believe it has quite a bit of replayability, different patterns can arise. The minuspoint is that given the towns geography on the north side of Ulan Bator, it is much stronger to claim Irkutsk first, just like the designer already warns for. Make sure the winner of the auction has to pay a lot for that.

I had high expectations of this map. Blue cube deliveries count double and there are "my city tokens" which also grant you 1.5 per delivery. In the game I played I won big time, my opponent couldn't catch up after turn 2. The big points deliveries made the map somewhat imbalanced it seemed. I need to try again. Rating 6 for now.

And by the way there is a two-player variant as well designed in the files-section: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/46210/two-player-steam...
