This is the traditional weekly thrift and bargain finds list.
These lists may start empty, but as always, add your items.
Put in what you consider a bargain, tell us how much you paid and the place you got it from. Bargains can be thrift store finds or any second-hand purchases or discounted boardgames bought new. Don't forget to add your encounters with the Thrift Store Irritant Squad and any other embellishments in order to make it even more interesting.
Our GeekGuild: Welcome to The Ancient and Loyal Order of Thrifters. Enter the halls of thriftdom at your own risk. Please do mind the stacks of prized games, do not mention the musty smell and try not to sneeze. Make sure to bow before our King Belial I, and pay your due respects to previous Kings Great_Mazinga, minionhunter, Krazygit, EvilTimmy and Blackwind.
The Order's Anthem: Sing along with our good old thrifty theme song...
Complete and in very good condition. My wife likes Hummingbirds - I wonder if this is any good as there are no ratings. I'm thinking not, but the card art is really nice. Ironically, the cards are HUGE! You'd think a game about hummingbirds would have small cards....
I bought this game for the four cool spaceship pewter movers, but it is complete, in new condition, and the game components are still sealed in plastic. I guess I'll have to play it a few times before I rob it of its cool spaceships and stick it in the shredder.
I passed on this game when it was $10 at a clearance store. Then I passed on this game when I found it for $5 at the same thrift store about a year ago. But this time, it was $2 and it was unpunched and in like new condition. I guess somebody really wanted me to buy this game.
Probably played only once then given up on. Our family, however, took to this right away, especially my 6 year old. He takes great delight in being able to change the rules (and always agonizes about having to play the Parent Bonus card!).
Showed this to a Japanese friend of mine who said the artwork brought back nostalgic feelings of her grandmother playing cards in the kitchen. I’d like to try out the game first, but eventually I’ll have to give it to her.
Being at the very southern end of the PNW, our streets aren’t paved with Euros, we only have occasional stepping stones. But this find is the kind that makes thrifters rejoice, that makes thrifters believe in the thrifting gods, that turns thrifting rationalizations into the TRUTH.
Tell me, fellow thrifters, how many of you have said to yourselves, “I’ll just go in for a quick scan, and only grab something great”? After which, you find yourself walking out the door with yet another Rack-O, yet another Mille Bornes because you know you’ll get at least one thumb?
Yes, I see several hands up.
Well, let me tell you all, you speak the TRUTH! Despite your past weaknesses, the day will come when you have only 3 minutes for a thrift stop, when you really should be picking up your child/spouse/groceries, when you say, “I’ll just make a quick check for Euros,” when you walk straight to the puzzle shelf, when you see that Euro — that EURO! — bathed in the golden light, when you clutch it to your chest, when you float to the cashier with no one else around you aware of the miracle that just occurred, when you quickly check the contents, and they are complete, nay pristine, when you realize that you aren’t rationalizing, you are speaking the TRUTH!
I couldn't pass this up. Complete & works. I have to believe that someone will buy this if I market it correctly. The posts that aren't selling don't seem to contain the word "dinosaur" which I would think would be the key search term. oh well. $.99 GW.
Found at SA on Metcalf. A new hunting ground for me as family business takes me in that direction.
I have passed on this item a few times because of the VCR issue and because of heavy play and incomplete bits. The item I found looks like it was played once by two people. All the original stickers are still on the sheet with only two crew stickers used. All components are bagged and generlly everything is in perfect shape.
Star Wars Electronic Gallactic Battle!! $3.98 at RR DAV. Stood in the store and inventoried the beast right there. Complete and working. I love the sound effects. Played the 1 player game last night just to unlock the ingame dialog from the movies.
This ought to elicit the laser schtick but maybe not.
