Definition of a meeple

Possibly the most overused word on here, what does it actually mean? Well, to me, a meeple must be a chunky 2D shape that has a humanoid form. Hopefuly, these images will reinforce the idea... Suggestions welcome, but try to stick to my definition please! (That means HUMANOID figures only, please. I'll make another list soon for animals...)

Aah yes, the classic meeple...

...and his big brother. I'm considering painting white heads on my large meeples, so that I can tell the difference during play.

While the pig isn't strictly a meeple, this guy (known as Bob by our group) is, altough I'm not quite sure why he has 2 heads...

As meeples go, these look big.

Male and female meeples, 10 of each. Could be useful for a games design kit, if you can find a copy. Sorry, no better picture of these...

We refer to these as meeples. A bust of a meeple (A beeple? Horses are heeples? Ships are sheeples?)

2 player game, big lonely meeples, 1 per player - and they are at each other's throats.
