I used to be registered for this one and had a great time playing at lunch. The implementation is well done. I cancelled my registration as they seemed to be more interested in creating new aliens rather than implementing the aliens from the old version of the board game. Being a huge Fungus fan I just couldn't wait anymore...

Another bonus (at least when I was playing) was that Peter Olotka was online a lot and was quite fun to play with.

Still in development but playable. Highly addictive and fun if you can see beyond the graphics.

Where it lacks in graphics polish, it makes up in depth. A deep feature rich RPG.

Some directions would be nice... and this isn't a board game. It's an RTS that heavilly rips off the dawn of the dead board game, graphics and all, so should it really be on here?

Press F1 for control reference and F10 for full help.

Of course it's based on "Dawn of he Dead" board game (that's why it's here...), but, as anyone can see, only the general board architecture and basic game concept are taken from the original (which, by the way, is out of print and copyright): all the graphics are created by us from scratch (note, for instance, that there are 9 different kinds of zombies...), and we have altered some aspects of the game (e.g. jacks, "zombification"). And yes, it's an RTS, but after all, all that board games do, is trying to simulate real time, using turns...

But it's not really much of a board game, which is what this list is about. It's an RTS. It's based off a board game, yes, but it is still an RTS.

Chaosbreaker, Dumbbot may be a weak AI, but Smartbot is the highest-ranking player at boardspace. Bestbot is probably even stronger (I have a hunch that the only difference between the bots is seach depth), but it has only two games. I was sure both of these were wins, but ddyer actually beat it? How on earth did you do that, ddyer?

I've written a computer version of the game w/ an AI player. It runs on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. The interface isn't very fancy, but it is functional. All pieces and abilities are supported as well as custom minis and changing core rules.

This is my first post to a geeklist so I hope I did it correctly. :D

Download both the program and the GUI client. You need java to use the GUI client.

To play, first load the GUI by typing "java Dvonnboard" in the directory of the GUI client, Dvonnboard. Once the Dvonnboard is loaded then you can double click and run dvonner.exe and from the within the prompt of dvonner.exe, type:
/gui 1 to enable GUI. Type in begin and end coordinates (like d4dh) to make moves--there are no mouse inputs.

Lots options and variants. However you have to pay for each map.

Pros:
* lots and lots options and variants
* multiple smart AI players
* several maps and more on the way
* plays identical or better than the board game

Cons
* graphics and user interface are sub par for commercial game
* must pay for every map

Scrolling the map is so CPU intensive that, it stops play my CD music when I am panning across the map.

Playable both in the 1995 edition and the the 2003 edition.

* NOTE: The 2003 version seems to have a bug with one of the cards - perhaps a missing image file. 1995 plays fine, though.

Games that are added to this list must have:

* AI (artificial intelligence)
* If no AI then be a solitaire puzzle
* Enforce the game rules

Why this list?

1) The primary reason I created this list is so people can learn how to play a board games the way the designer and the publisher intended.

When I was new to modern European board games, pre-boardgamegeek era, I played board games with wrong rules because I did know what I was doing--like I said I was new modern board games. Playing by the wrong rules really changed some games to the point they were not fun to play. When you play a SoftBoard game, all the correct rules are enforced so you can play right.

2) The secondary reason is that I want people to be able to try a game before they buy a copy.

Unlike video games, unless someone you know has a copy and wants to teach it, it is hard to try a game before you buy it.

3) The third reason is that one can practice new strategies for a face-to-face game.

Enjoy,

This is a really good/popular GeekList. Due to this fact it has lots of comments. So, only the first couple and last couple comments are displayed by default, meaning that everyone always sees the comment, "Games that are added to this list must have computer opponents". However, it seems like this rule has changed, because now solitaire games are considered to have a 'script AI' or something like this.

Should all solitaire boardgame software be added? If so, perhaps chaosbreaker's original comment should be editted so that people know this...

As this geeklist doesn't seem to have anything of interest to roleplaying gamers could you please edit it so that it only goes to the boardgamegeek side please.
