Here are two pictures of Kluntje (typical for Ostfriesland):

At BGG you find many creative minds. And they prodruce good ideas to make a nice game even nicer. So here it is:

Best pimped boardgame of the month, November 2011, 15th edition

How to submit an image of your pimped boardgame?

Just add a geeklist item, where it asks for a ImageID add the number of your photo there. Use [imageid=xxxxxx medium] in the body of the List Entry, where "xxxxxx" is the ImageID number, to show the image at a reasonable size as that helps people judge your image better, and make sure to remove the space. If you have questions please geekmail me and I will help.

Rules:

1) You can submit up to 3 entries.

2) Each entry can contain up to 2 images.

3) That image(s) has to be one of your own. If you like a pimped game of another user, please ask for permission to submission.

4) The image(s) was uploaded during the month in question.

5) Images from your User Gallery are eligible, and images from any other Gallery.

7) It is possible to include a link to a geeklist or a thread, where you find more details about the pimped boardgame.

8) Users may vote for (give a thumb up to) as many entries as they wish.

9) Winners will be declared when the next month's list goes up.

10) In case of a tie, the prize will be split equally among all the tied people.

11) I will randomly reorder this list so that the first-come first-thumbed effect is lessened.

Prizes

Three will be awarded:

First place:

50 bag + microbadge golden teapot mb

Second place:

25 bag

Third place:

10 bag

extra prize (each thumb up giver):

5 bag randomly one person, who gives this list a thumb up.

So make sure to give this list a thumbsup so that we can keep this list on the front page as long as possible!!! You have the chance to win bag. And there will be more participants -> more pimped games to see!!!

Meta stuff

The bar on this game was set quite high, cause 1nf1n1ty posted a great pimp a few months ago.
Here's my attempt, featuring:
- fully-painted components (including marble effect, hieroglyphics everywhere, grass on the walls' top, sand on Cleo's base, you name it...)
- custom tuck/chit-boxes, that fit in the insert.

My Alien Frontiers - Pirates of the Carribean Re-Theme

After I finished my Star Wars Pandemic Re-Theme, I wanted to do a new Re-Theme. I just needed a "fresh" theme despite of SciFi or Fantasy and finally the idea of getting a good pirate game was born! arrrh

Finished in November, here's my tribute to a great game!

Ready to play!

Pimped Elements:

> I had to create everything new (I used Photoshop), the board, cards, names, tokens, locations (and which to use)... yepp, everything (and it was fun!)

> I added some parts of the upcoming Faction Pack (first addon). Each player can choose a Pirate Lord. There's some space for the influence marker (little ships from settlers of catan = colonies) and and indication for the resources (no more confusion about where to place or how much resources you have). And just swing open the faction board and your're ready to go and play the addon. Of course every board has some fluff text (bounty and crimes comitted) and a quote.

> Self created "Fields" (made them out of Fimo): "Kraken", "Cursed Coin" and "Parlay"

> Added space for Rum and Gold token, the draw and discard pile, an indication where to place the in-game cards and a bar for tracking the Victory Points on the board. Each location has a unique symbol (this way it's easier to recognize, especiallay when using the cards)

> The ships to track the VP are taken from Merchants & Marauders (I painted them in the apropriate player color)

> I made a complete new card deck with screencaps from the movies. I named them and added on every card an apropriate quote. In addition I changed the design a little bit (at least for me it's easier to recognize what to do with the cards now, because now you have a clear seperated "each turn benefit" and "discard benefit")

> I Bought new (crystal) dice and one wooden die (= Flying Dutchman = Relic Ship)

> I even bought and painted some gold coins (= ore) and rum barrels (= fuel)

> A little voodoo doll (if someone takes way too long, just look him in the eyes and say: "You know.. this is you! Hurry up or I'll just bend you a little bit"

I surely forgot some details... but that text is long enough!

BUT if you still wan't more details about the development and a lot more pictures please visit my thread:

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/695419/re-theme-pirates-of-t...

Hope you like it ... I mean *Arrrrrh* arrrh

This one has been in the works for a while. A long time ago I made some card holders from Scrabble tile holders cut in half and glued to some hardboard and would set them on a lazy susan. Worked well but had some issues with readability/glare/etc.

I knew it could be improved so I made some foam core models playing around with different methods of holding the cards and based off of one of those I made a self contained rack very similar to the above its own lazy susan - much like the above but less polished.

That one was in use at our game nights for many months.

BGG.con was coming up and thought to myself that some other people might like them as well (and I could use a better one - or two) so I put them up on the virtual flea market for pre-order and ended up selling a bunch of them.

Turns out my calculations of how long they would take were a bit off (so I only made about 10 cents an hour ), but I learned a lot and (hopefully) a lot of people are enjoying them now.

Some improvements from the prototype were much more consistent slot cutting thanks to a jig and I tiered the cards a bit more to change the angle on the back two slots.

I find a tray as a whole helps the game immensely. It helps keeps things organized and makes reading the cards easier (particularly useful if you are playing with a lot of new people). Also since it rotates you solve the "OH I thought it was your turn still!" problem. If it is pointing at you - it is your turn.

Don't know if videos count but here is one of it in action:

My submission is meager compared to the others here, but I am very happy with it and so I thought I'd post it anyway.

For those not familiar with Pandemic, you might not notice what I changed here.

I've replaced all the original disease cubes that came with the game, with much smaller cubes, which greatly increases the ease of game play.

Also, I've painted all the research stations white with the red medical cross symbol on them.

I am a little embarrassed by my humble entry.

It is simple, I replaced the people markers with meeples that a friend of mine painted. I do not have steady enough hands to do it myself. blush Someone suggested that the toga strap should have been painted on - I never thought of that. Wish that I did.

I also added a battery-powered tea light to the volcano to make it flicker.

I did some pimping to help out the wizards in Dragon Rage.

I made some Spell Templates which make it much easier to figure out how many hexes the spell affects and when they are active. Did 3 different sizes for Boost Morale and 1 for Fog (see gallery for fog version).

If you are curious I made these in Photoshop and carefully cut them out with an exacto knife. Then laminated and left the clear plastic on the inside so they have support.

Wizard Spell Points Wheels replace a pile of counters. The original game uses counters to track spell points but there aren't enough if you use all 4 wizards. So made 4 of these so each wizard could be easily tracked. Plus is just cooler.

I made up another Patrol: Lost set but this time I decided to add the monster (lurker) tokens as coins. I hand sculpted the marines from fimo then "dirtied" them with a mud wash. They stand at about 1 1/2" tall. The "lurker" coins are the size of a penny but about twice the thickness. I made the coins double sided though of course these didn't need to be as they're just stacked, there is no hidden information.

After getting into this game with some friends in Minneapolis, it went out of printcry

My wife (she was not at the time) is excellent at wood burning, and set up a board for me (us) by woodburning in the design, and going over it with pastel crayons. Its really beautiful, I have it on display on top of my boardgame gunrack.

So I decided to make a modular 3D board so that I could use miniatures with the frag ruleset (and cards):
