I though I'd put up my own little list of Goodwill Adventures to brag like others have done. The thrill of discovery is always a game in itself, and I'd probably just spend the pocket change at the pop machine, anyway.

I haven't seen Titan: the Arena or a the entire Kosmos 2-player line at Goodwill yet, but there's always hope...

Got it at the ARC thrift store one day for $4.95. Not bad for my first week of thrift store searching (and the prime inspiration for this list), later I got the Mayfair edition at the same store for $1.99 a couple of weeks later. How can I figure out who is getting rid of these, I wonder? and how can I convince them to get rid of anything else?

Same outing as #1, $2.99. Looks good for a party game and I was looking at it in the game store a week before where I think it was $25.

Got it in the black tube. $3.95 -- just need to get some extra stones so we can add players. (Every thrift store I go to has the crummy boxed version for sale now)

Wow. For some reason, those tube versions go for big bucks on eBay. I just got a boxed version, but don't know if I want to part with my tubed version.

Salvation Army, 99 cents. (Man, what a huge box for some dice and cups, though) Found another copy but was missing some dice so I passed it up, later found a third copy which I bought to give to some friends or maybe just to keep the dice.
(Need more colored dice to make my own copy of Chase)

Freind and fellow BGG member 'clapjaws' found this game at a church bazaar. The price was 25 cents and he didn't have any money on him (he was just picking up the kids). He made is 13 year-old daughter stand at the table and wait for him to run to the car and get the stinking quarter out of the ashtray. Talk about dedication to game collecting. Talk about mortifying a teenage daughter!!

I think this one was half price, so it set me back a big seventy-five cents. All the tiles were even there. (I still ended up buying the Flashy AH version at WOTC for twenty bucks, though.)

Why buy dice at the game store when they're practically giving them away at Goodwoll? This one went for fifty cents for six dice, one was chipped so it wasn't usable. The others went in my "box 'o bits"

I saw that the game store in the mall sells a bag of 4-5 blank tiles to replace missing ones for a few bucks. Or you can buy a whole new game, like I did, for a dollar.
Postscript: Found the deluxe edition with the rotating board for one dollar at Goodwill. Box looks lod, looks virtually unplayed inside.

Yeah, I know, big deal. When I see some decent (and complete) decks of cards for ultra-cheap, if I'm getting something else, I'll probably get these too. we play a card game called "Pounce" that tends to be a little rough on cards. Latest acquisition: a bag of four decks (one was thrown out, two still sealed, and one lightly used) for $1.99.

Okay, the Rules to Pounce:

One deck of cards per player, each player deals themselves a hand of solitaire (Klondike, to be precise) and each player's four stacks at the top (starting with the aces) goes in the middle and anyone can play on anyone else's stack. Whoever "goes out" first, if anyone, wins. If everyone is stuck, you get one point per card stiff in front of you. It gets noisy and cards often get mutilated as everyone races to slam their cards down in the center.

(Not too long ago, I saw a game called something like "Solitaire Frenzy" which was nothing but a $20 repackaging of the same game. Our frind's family had been playing this for decades.)

Found a really nice looking wooden (looks like cedar) Go board that folds in half with a "made in Japan" stamp on the bottom -- one dollar. No stones, but a quick trip to the craft store or the dollar store should take care of that.

360 stones can turn out being very expensive. Also, the stones at craft and dollar stores are not uniform. There is more value in buying a beginners set of stones from a GO equipment store.

Actually, I bought a bag of black stone and a bag of clear stones for $1 each. They're flat on the bottom, so they stay put. If I decide I like Go enough, I can always buy a "real" set...

Good reviews on this one, so I grabbed it for $1.95 -- Discovery Toys "special edition," not so sure what's so special about it though. A little worn but perfectly playable, lost of score sheets left. All seems well, but no color die! Oh, well, I'm sure a solution can be cobbled together somehow. No rules either, but a quick trip to D'Antiques fixed that. (Postscript: got another copy today for 75 cents, this time with the die and rules. Yay!)

It's weird - I got almost the same exact games recently here in Austin (Cranium in shrinkwrap, etc.). Yet some other Thrifting lists have games I never see. I need to stop looking, though - I keep buying lots of so-so games and the piles here at home are getting ridiculously high.

laugh I love thrift store finds! My local thrift store usually sells board games for 25-50 cents, and occasionally the newer trendy ones or vintage ones go for a bit higher. My collection is almost entirely trift store acquisitions, and I have never bought one that was not complete:
Pente (boxed version) 25¢
The Amazeing Labyrinth (THREE copies over the years) 25¢ ea
Master Labyrinth (two copies, brand new condition) 50¢ ea
Barricade 25¢
Balderdash 25¢
Clue (vintage 1963!) 25¢
Chess (vintage 60's travel wood board in zip case) $3.50
UpWords 25¢
Ginny-o 25¢
Trivial Pursuit 25¢
Harry Potter, Mystery at Hogwart's $1.00
And of course the list goes on and on... they are taking over my storage space... HELP! ???
But we love them, and play them all with zeal.
Enjoy, and definitely you Aussies out there... do something about your thrift store situation... it's a unthinkable! :0
