The geek list only a cheapskate would appreciate!
I am always in search of the great games that you can make with stuff around the house. I personally have saved tens of dollars (on shipping at least) by creating these games at home rather than buying the game.
If you have any homemade games in your collection that you would like to share, please add to this list! Feel free to share pictures/comments of your creations with me.

You can make this board with posterboard and construction paper. Grab some dice from your Yahtzee/Stack/D&D games, and you are set! What a geek!

I'll admit it. You might have trouble finding 25-30 dice in your game collection, but you can buy them cheap at your local department/hobby store. The rest are just cards you can make with your computer & printer.

It is just a deck of cards with five suits and a board to tell you where the expeditions should be placed... I use a deck from my game collection called Five Crowns (see below). Don't forget! You can play Lost Cities with a standard deck of cards! See the rules variant.

You can play this with two decks of standard cards. I call it Wild Gin Rummy, but there may be a different game with that name. The fifth suit doesn't really add much!?

Two words for you: Inkjet printer
Two more words for you: Business Cards Then, use a standard deck of cards to make black = green sheep and red = red sheep. Done.

Haven't made this one yet. Seriously thinking about combining attribut cards to description cards. Enjoy.

My first creation many years ago. Buy 2 mini decks of playing cards and glue them to poster board. You design the board how you like it. Wouldn't it be nice if the hearts were in one section instead of all over the place!? Contact paper is your best friend folks!

I played this game before the card deck was available. We called it farkle or 10,000. Use any search engine to find the rules. What can I say? My family loves dice games!

I made this one using clip art and Powerpoint. We've played it a lot recently, and it has become one of our favorite fillers.

With the magic of GIS (Google Image Search), I found some nice images of Werewolve's, Seers, and Moderators and again printed them out poker size and slid them into CCG deck protectors along with some common cards for strength.

Another easy one to make using an inkjet printer and tokens from other games. Better yet, Zirkus Flohcati contains all the cards necessary to play this game and then some.

Can't Stop must be trivial to make at home. A pair of dice, and a sheet with 10 tracks on it.

I made my own copy of this. I have a chequered tablecloth that I cut a board from, and then put some numbers on poker chips. It might be fun to remake this when I have a good idea for a theme - but the game is pretty abstract.
It took me 2 minutes to make, but if you think that's quick then look at the Fantasy Flight version.

The game is totally in the public domain and requires nothing more than playsheets that can be downloaded and printed off for when you want to play.

Chase is played on a hex grid and requires nothing more than dice for playing pieces. The rules are available right here on BGG and it's an excellent game so what are you waiting for?

The PiecePack system is gaining in popularity. Visit http://www.piecepack.org/ for the rules to many games and instructions on how to make your own set. This is public domain.

Fun game. Expensive to buy on the second hand market, though, and I could not find it new. The components are top notch, but easily remade cheaply on your own.
I liked the game enough to want to play, but not enough to spend $40.00 or more for it. So... I bought a sheet of poster board with 1" grid already drawn on, a 3/4" rubber Kangaroo stamp, and bunch of (21) pawns at a craft store.
I drew in the lake & stream with markers, and cut the board down to 18x16. I used the stamp to make a checkerboard pattern to aid players making longer jumps, and spray painted the pawns, 5 each in red, white, blue, and green, and one in black. Then I laminated the top surface of the board at Kinko's (a copy store). I used spray adhesive to attach it to some 3/16" foam core board. Finally, I downloaded the rules from the geek.
Works great.

Take the Ace(1) to Ten of Hearts(Red); Diamonds(Yellow) and Clubs(Green) from two packs of identical playing cards. Add one each of Queen of Hearts(Red Dragon); Jack of Diamonds(Yellow Phoenix); Jack of Clubs(Green Phoenix) and Ace of Spades(All Colour One).
This will allow you to try the game cheaply. If you like it, and if you like card games, you probally will, it is well worth investing in the game. It is easier, (and 'nicer' , to play with the design, colour etc. of the supplied cards. My feeling is that it is slightly over-priced for a card game but if it still cheaper than many and you do get a years free access to the on-line game.

I was actually surprised at how easy it would be to construct an Auf Heller und Pfennig set. Even after purchasing the Kingdoms edition from Fantasy flight, I'm probably going to make my own card-based version for sheer portability sake.
What you need: 62 tiles/cards/whatever 6 negative point tiles, numbered 1-6 12 positive point tiles, numbered 1-6 (2 of each number) 2 wall/mountain/barrier tiles 1 dragon/whatever tile 1 gold mine/whatever tile 10 castles/shops/whatevers for each player, numbered 1-4 4 ranked 1, 3 ranked 2, 2 ranked 3, 1 ranked 4 Some way to keep scores
Kingdoms has 1195 available points in tokens, but I have trouble envisioning all of them getting used. Most 2 player games end under the 400 point mark per player.

It's 55 playing cards, four pawns and a cardboard rectangle. You can pay $30 for it on-line or use $5 worth of bits from around your house.

You can take a chance and buy this one for $18 on-line (hoping you'll like it) or try it out at home first for almost nothing. Take a regular chess/checkers board (ignore one row and one column) and add 48 square tiles with a half-dozen varieties of insignia.
