The counters to this game were clipped with nail clippers, but are generally in good condition. A couple of them were clipped badly (the worst of which is shown in the picture). The map has peeled a small amount in the middle of the ocean, but overall the game looks good. Also includes sleeved cards and boxes.

Minimum Bid: $1
BIN: $40

This is the 2nd edition.

modest Sort of been out of the mood in my wargaming that I still have this on the table. I have made a couple of turns. one weekend we were out of town going to Memphis to see our son and new daughter-in-law for their birthdays. No AC in the game area in the utility room either, hopefully with the 4th weekend I can make more progress on the campaign game. Thanks for the understanding in putting this up all this time. It could be worse. Back when I was playing Fire in the East with my late wargame buddy Jim it would had it posted for ten years.

VASSAL via PBEM, or ACTS.

Don't want to teach. I've played a lot of solo, but only once with a rl opponent (in rl time). Willing to play either side, no preference.

This game has been a bit of an obsession for me this year. I was determined to learn it and spent the first three months of the year dedicated to the rule book and getting some plays in. Now I've had at least 2 games going on VASSAL/ACTS and now a solo game going on my table.

I started in 1942 and have just finished turn 2. A good turn for Japan and the Allies had 2 WIE cards and decided to use them to max out that Theater. The DEI was a key battle ground and the Japanese missed an opportunity to bring the Philippines to the negotiation table. Turn 3 should cover that..

2x _7.25_ Tanto Cuore
2x _7.00_ Agricola (revised edition)
1x _7.50_ The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game
1x _7.00_ Small City
1x _6.00_ Guilds of London
1x _5.50_ Empire of the Sun
1x _5.25_ Asgard
1x _3.00_ Das Pferd von Troja

Not too much gaming last week, as I was away on a training for work. Three gurus... Anyhow, made up a bit for it during the weekend .

Guilds of London was quite fun. A nice majorities game, though the endgame scoring cards didn't seem very balanced. Though usually you get three to choose from...

Asgard was another prize from HeavyCon. Quite a nice game, though the final Ragnarok scoring was a bit weird with 2p. There's either a bit too much randomness, or you have to set it up to fight yourself. Or we should simply do better in the preceding rounds .

Finally, I got in Empire of the Sun - another prize from HeavyCon (not sure which ones where B.'s officially any more). I got in a solo play against the bot, which gave me a decent idea of how the game is supposed to play. Even though playing through one turn took a few hours still... Quite fun, and a very strategic view of the Pacific war.

I am moving with the speed of a glacier playing this I have to be in the mood to play but also we were on vacation for a week in western PA. I am in turn six now the allies and the Japanese had a bad hand, I do enjoy this when I take time to play.

PS
When we were on our vacation we got to go to the Heinz Museum in Pittsburg,(PA). At the time they had an exhibit Toys from the 50s, 60s, and 70s which was really neat to see. They had a Davy Crockett hat like the one I use to have. I wished they could have had some of the early Avalon Hill games to put on display with the other items.

Spent my first 7 hours at BGG Spring playing this through turn 3, to include the mini-turn 1.

I am glad it didn't go any further, as I had a plenty of good military events and other 3-ops cards, and only managed to take half of the Philippines and a few of the Dutch East Indies resource hexes (not even Singapore). The allies would have wiped the floor with me once their reinforcements started rolling and I was down to 4 or 5 cards per turn.

This looks like it is going to be fun. I tried the Plan Orange iteration which came out in C3i and enjoyed it with the much less lethal airpower of the era. Having now read the rules for Empire of the Sun, I would say that Plan Orange works as a nice introduction to the original game.

Now I get to see the carriers reign supreme. Lots of nice chrome and I love the decisions CDGs throw up.

The key variable in determining strategic victory is the level of U.S. political will. The Japanese win the game by forcing the U.S. into a negotiated peace, which was not achieved historically. The Japanese achieve this by knocking countries like India, China, and Australia out of the war, while inflicting massive casualties on the United States. The delivery of the A-bomb on its historical schedule is not a guarantee, often necessitating Operation Olympic and the invasion of Japan. It is often in its darkest hour that the Japanese find victory in EotS.

What a terrible hand the Japanese had on turn two. A 2 (black) military, the rest were 2 reaction & resource cards except for a War in Europe card and then the Bridge on the River Kwai(The Japanese were just on the border of Burma). The Allies had all 2 military and the second turn conference card (forgot its name). Still the Japanese made a little progress in the second turn taking Malaya. The third turn turned out well for the Japanese with them taking the Philippines, Borneo, and Sumatra. The allies (me) were stymied with Mahatma Gandhi and a weather card that turn. I did manage to get ready for offensives in the India Burma theater. It will be turn four coming up. In the past I had never played many Pacific WWII games I due to lack of interest but EotS has won me over, I really like it.

I've finally taken Empire of the Sun out of its box and am very much looking forward to learning the system. Despite rumors about the game, I believe Mark Herman when he says that it's not difficult to learn and that a game can be finished in 3 hours.

My sense is that the game's core is really in OCs, ECs, and ZOIs—and that most of the text of the rulebook is there to deal with edge cases. It would probably be easier for learners to have a Fantasy Flight-style "Learn to Play" guide with the basic rules along with a separate "Rules Index" for the more idiosyncratic concepts, but nonetheless, as I proceed through the text, nothing seems too difficult to understand.

This is really the first hex-and-counter game that has grabbed me, and I'm certain it is because of the theme.
