He's Back (the man behind the mask) - released on his 1986 album, Constrictor, this song is better known for its role in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. Alice had other songs on that soundtrack, but this is the one that sticks in mind. This album marked a departure from New Wave into more classic heavy metal.

From my favourite horror movie series (pre-crappy remake). I'll be dressed as Mr Voorhees this Halloween accompanying my children during their trick or treat travels.
My avatar celebrates Jason's infamous appearance on the Arsenio Hall show, where our favourite killer said more things of interest than Arsenio managed in his career.

I would have thought I couldn't game my name, but it was easier than I thought - Jason Edward Lott.
First up is a character I hate being compared to. Because hockey masks are just not flattering.

Friday Night - BixCON starts
The doors opened for the convention at 5:00pm. Oh ya, by the way, did I mention that we are in the middle of renovations and the contractors were just finishing up painting the main basement through fare that just had all new floowing laid a day before. We like to cut things a bit fine. The thrill of adrenaline and juggling tight schedules I guess.
Friday night went very well with a number of games hitting tables one, two, and three. Here is a pictorial review:
We had Pitchcar setup as the Convention Opener and ice-breaker
Three Games of Agricola was the real launch for BixCON
Seeing as this was Friday the 13th, there needed to be some Arkham Horror
Turfmaster was almost full with 7 Horse Racers vying for glory
Dominion is a popular game and rated high with some players
The night finisher was a game of Thurn & Taxis

Friday the 13th
Now here's a series that won't stay dead. I don't particularly care for the Jason/Freddie/etc. style of movies so I have no idea if it will be any good. I suppose that if you're going after a crazed killer in the woods though, Sam Winchester isn't a bad guy to have on your side.

Friday the 13th: The Series
Very cool horror series, filmed in Canada, about a group of cursed artifacts, and the trio of people who task themselves with finding them. This show was particularily gruesome, and would only be shown on cable today (it was originally syndicated.) All the artifacts have a benefit to the user, with the trade off that an act of evil must be done with them. The best episode dealt with a glove that healed with a touch. Another person must then be touched to be killed by the disease or wound. That episode was directed by David Cronenberg. Several episodes were directed by Atom Egoyan!

She wasn't really my type, a hard-looking but untalented reporter from the local cat box liner, but the first second that the third-rate representative of the fourth estate cracked open a new fifth of old Scotch, my sixth sense said seventh heaven was as close as an eighth note from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, so, nervous as a tenth grader drowning in eleventh-hour cramming for a physics exam, I swept her into my longing arms, and, humming "The Twelfth of Never," I got lucky on Friday the thirteenth.

Friday was a pretty big gameday. To be completely prepared, I went to bed at 1am - early, I know - and got up at 8:45. My dad and I, since I am such a big cheapo, stayed at the Days Inn, about 2 blocks away. I was enticed by the offer of free wireless internet (though eventually didn't even bring my laptop..sigh) and free breakfast. Seeing as how we didn't check, we didn't know that the breakfast offer ended at 9... meaning that we had to buy breakfast at the Westin that morning anyway. Oh well.
I had a teaching game of Supernova set up for 10am and had to postpone it slightly until 10:30 (mrhmhrmph.. eating). Sorry guys!

It's fun, it's healthy, it's good exercise. The kids will just love it. And we put a little sand inside to make the experience more pleasant.
You know, they say there was a man who jumped from the forty-FIFTH floor? But that's another story...

Are you Jason?
The Hook Happy Campers Keep dying off! Is one of you secretly a Mass Murderer? Players play hormonal 18 year olds trying to get some "Quality Time Alone" and avoid death.
The Twist:
Instead of trying to kill off the player who might be Jason, players instead form romantic 2somes and spend some quality time sucking face while jason does his dirty work. The players never win, but no seems to mind.
Are you Freddy Kruger?
Same game, but one player is the "Dreamer" who has the seer like ability. Since everyone is sucking face, no one will listen to him/her.

T.G.I.Friday's
I went there recently with work to celebrate the President's birthday. We're a small company, so there were 13 of us there. We go on a Friday, about 12:30pm. It's mildly crowded, but certainly not excessively so, as there were many open tables around. I get there late, after everyone has their drinks. I order a diet coke with a lemon, my standard. The waitress vanishes for about 5 minutes, then comes back with a glass of water with a lime, drops it off, and vanishes again. Um...ok. She comes back and takes the orders and I point out that my drink is, well, totally incorrect. She gets the right drink and vanishes again for about 20 minutes. She comes back, refills a few drinks, then vanishes for another 15 minutes. She comes back again and says they're busy in the kitchen, but ours should be ready soon. Vanishes again for another 15 minutes. The food starts being served by other servers and over half the dishes are not just cool, but STONE COLD. One person's plate of food literally feels like it has been in a fridge. We grab a server, since ours is missing again, and send half the stuff back to get actual warm/hot food. Another 10 minutes and everyone has some form of warm/hot food. Our server comes back and, when we point out to her that many plates had to go back, she says, "well, I can't help it...we have 3 tables of 13 right now." Um...not my problem.
This story does have a happy ending, though. I went home that night and wrote a note to the TGIF's website, explaining what happened. A few days later, the manager of the restaurant writes me an e-mail telling me he'd like to make it up and that the waitress should have got a manager, but instead apparently tried to fix it herself and just made it worse. He offers to treat us all to lunch and, a few weeks later, 9 of us go back and have a free lunch on them. I'm glad to see that they "made it right" in the end and, honestly, I think that's all any customer wants. The sad thing, though, is that it never needed to happen in the first place.

FRIDAY - THE DAY BEFORE
I'd be remiss if I failed to mention all the work going on behind the scenes on Friday. Chris and Jay Moore came over to my place early to help wrap up last minute preparations -- name badges, organizing the prizes and games, packing up games for the library, etc.
Later on in the afternoon, several folks stopped by and we got some gaming in for a few hours. Then we broke early and headed over to the Maryland Heights Center to unload and set up for Saturday -- fortunately, there were no events in the room we reserved Friday night. It took about two hours to get everything set up. We made sure all the tables and chairs were arranged where they needed to be, put soda in the fridge, set up the game library and basically got everything set for the morning.
I'd like to send out a great big extra thanks to all the people who helped out (both with setup and teardown) -- it saved us a TON of time and energy to not have to try to do that first thing Saturday when people arrived: Matt Becker, Heather Benjamin, Mike & Christy Pennisi, Jay & Sarah Moore, Jorge Montero, Eva Crespo, Michael Silbey, Justin Honold, Trey Dembski, Chris Darden, Kristin Philbrik and anyone I may have forgotten!
Friday was a loooong day. Despite my exhaustion, I was totally wired and stressed about the coming weekend, and didn't fall asleep until well after 2 AM. Unfortunately, we lost power that night briefly, and I became paranoid that I'd oversleep - so I kept waking up every 20-30 minutes "just in case" to find out what time it was. Finally, around 5:30 AM, I just forced myself out of bed and decided there was simply too much stuff to take care of.
