Seeing as this is almost an RPG, it lends itself very well for a little fiction added in to the reports.

As a result some very nice reads have cropped up.

Also one of my favorite games

August 18: Roland's House

So the campaign begins. Roland the evil Overlord Demon is attempting to become a God and is not letting the good citizens of Terrinoth have any fringe benefits so we must stop him.

Tony "One Fist", Brian "The Tank", "Battle Mage" Bernie, Steve "Ronan the Wild", and Pico our familiar made our first effort to foil his plans.

The first level of the first dungeon we encountered was a Sorcerers mess hall were a Naga, a few spiders, and some skeletons were having some lunch. The sorcerer was a little crafty in hiding the key and he has a way of never actually dying.

Ronan the wild ran clear across the room to open the first chest and score some treasure including a cursed shield that allows him to ignore 2 wounds including those that ignore armor every round. He then ran around collecting the other loot and flipping the glyph, the second treasure was a mimic causing a delay in the reward. Ronan was the main target of the overlord while the tanks and battle mage mopped up the monsters. Eventually the wild man got "killed", so he shopped in town picking up a curse doll and some heavy leather armor. We put the curse on the curse doll and Ronan is now back to 3 Conquest tokens.

One Fist found the key and we bolted outta there to level 2 for next week.

September 1: Cates' House

One Fist (Tony), Jaes (Bernie/Stewart), Rohnan (Cates), and Mordrog (Brian) dragged their sorry butts through the level one portal and emerged in the second level of the monastary hearing the sounds of chanting in the distance. Being haters of the fine arts they took it upon themselves to disrupt the beautiful singing of the simple monks.

Obviously there were a few guards in place to keep order and make sure that trouble makers would take the social cue and behave themselves. But our "heroes" proved themselves to be as socially inept as we all knew they would be and charged into the room ahead to lay waste. Well, most of them laid waste.... There was one of them who just charged around the entire time knocking over ornamental chests and raiding the collection boxes of all the donations. Sickening really.

Well, to make a long story short the intruders barged in on the monks and slaughtered them right in the middle of their third chorus. They had been expecting a special visitor but he had to change his plans thanks to the persecutions of these heathens.

The four jumped into the portal having looted the sacred chapel and moved on to the third level of the Thelsvan Highway Monastary. In this level there was a delightful puppet theater being shown to the entertainment of several of the different races that inhabit our land. A very nice man was controlling the funny antics of a giantish puppet thing and all were having a grand time.

The miscreants were not going to let anyone have any fun and proceeded to slaughter whoever was in closest range....all except Rohnan, of course, who equipped two shields and a ring of questionable alignment and ran around once again with his shields over his head and tearing up the place and taking whatever wasn't bolted down. It was definitely time to arrest these criminals and bring them to trial. However, when the local police force tried to apprehend them they all jumped down a hole (like weasels!) and slipped out a door and away.

If you are currently travelling along the Thelvsian Highway, be warned that this band is still about causing trouble!

Sept. 8 Brian's House

After a great week of victory over the twisted schemes of the Evil Overlord the party journeyed down the Thelsvan Highway to the lovely city of Riverwatch. While visiting the shops along the River, Battlemage Jaes discovered a rune with remarkable power to blast whole groups of bad guys a Cone of Fire. He sold some of his older equipment and with the spoils of victory from the last meeting with the Overlord's minions he was able to buy it.

One Fist went to the Tavern and bought a round of drinks. After the celebration he was told about a mysterious Rumor about some twin brothers, it sounds like it could be the works of the Overlord and the team will have to investigate.

The party decided that Riverwatch was so remarkable they should stick around and train and recuperate before heading out once again to battle.

One Fist after a nearly fatal blow in the last dungeon went to the Temple to seek healing. The priests tended to him and he was blessed with a complete recovery.

Ronan of the wild was training in the outskirts when he was visited by a ghostly figure that identified itself as the Shadow Soul. The benevolent spectre showed him how he could teleport himself through time and space instantaneously.

Meanwhile, Mordrog found himself hunting for some meat on the west side of town and a friendly rat came up and Mordrog and Pico and they fed the rat a few scrap. The two took a liking to the rat and he decided to keep him as a pet naming him Boggs. Boggs seems to be very alert. He should serve the party well as a look out for any shady schemes the overlord may have in mind.

The rag tag team assembled again to head down to Vylenvale this time with two new members. Ronan with his Shadow Soul, Jaes, One Fist, and Mordrog, the animal lover, with Pico and Boggs.

On the road a squad of vile Beastmen with Socerers at their side encountered the team. The team felt this group of miscreants should be dealt with in short order so that no other travelers would have to waste any more time with such losers. As the encounter wore on One Fist, Ronan and Jaes found out this small band was more trouble than they bargained for and the master of the bunch put the hurt on One Fist knocking him clear out. Ronan and Jaes tried to save face and kill the Beastman but they got surrounded. Ronan did his best to save Jaes but the Beastman was just too viscous and he knocked them both out showing that the Overlord should not be underestimated.

Jaes licked his wounds and made it to Vylenvale vowing to train in Tactics and Leadership so the next encounter might be more successful. He developed the skill of ordering anyone on the squad to be ready each round of combat this should be useful.

One fist shopped around and discovered a Belt of Strength. When he put it on he felt like he could hit just a little bit harder, don't know why.

Stay tuned for more.

September 15, 2009: Roland's House

Following up on a rumor they had heard earlier in their travels, the companions traveled to the extreme southern region of the land of Terrinoth. They had rested up and visited the homes of local mystics hoping to learn new skills and become more powerful. In this they were successful.

Their adversary was not quiet during this period of recuperation and learning. Through the use of ancient arts he had increased the power and hardiness of the Eldritch races who followed him. He also sent out a new Champion of the Realm in the form of Sir Maric to speed up the process of building the temples needed for the ascension.

The companions arrived at the location on their map during the early hours of the day and immediately descended into the ancient ruins. Unfortunately for them neither the map nor the rumors had made any mention of a dragon's lair being in these same ruins and the heroes quickly found themselves looking down a hallway at a red master dragon angry at being awoken.

Brave Rohnan of the Wilds was heard to courageously ask, "Should we just run away and forget about this one?"

But the consensus was to press forward. The battle through the dragon's lair was bloody and costly to the heroes. Jaes had some early success by flooding the entire hallway with flames and damaging the tightly packed minions of the dragon. Despite this promising start, however, the dragon rushed forward with flames of his own setting two of the party on fire. In addition a Ferrox popped in out of nowhere and was able to inflict torturous little wounds amongst the heroes that would not stop bleeding. The combination of burning and bleeding was so intense that One Fist actually hallucinated that he killed the dragon while in fact he was back in Tamalir's temple in his sick bed trying to recover. In the end, the mighty dragon fell to Mordrog's mighty blow and the companions moved through the portal to the second level.

The friends came through the portal facing a short hallway and a door. Upon passing through the door they were confronted by a huge throne covered in treasure and a giant key to another door on the other side of the throne room. Unfortunately, the room was also overflowing with skeletons. These skeletons were of a nasty variety never before encountered by the heroes and they were to discover just how lethal the silver-tipped arrows of their enemy could be. Another horror, the Giant King, was roaring in a chamber to the right and so Brave Rohnan immediately hitched up both his shields and ran...left....

Meanwhile Jaes stepped forward and had success once again by filling the whole throne room in flames. Six of the skeletons crumbled to ash in the inferno--although two of them reanimated themselves with ghostly laughs. Despite his terror at these undying skeletal enemies who were also perched upon the massive throne, One Fist jumped up next to them and grabbed the key plus a valuable Bone Axe that seemed to be perfect for knifing through armored foes. He managed to toss it to Mordrog way down the corridor who somehow banked his old axe off of three walls and into Rohnan's backpack all in the space of a second. Simply amazing!

Excited about his newly acquired weapon, Mordrog rushed forward and cut down a powerful sorcerer to within 3 wounds of his life. Undaunted by the flames and the impossibly acrobatic passing of weapons, the skeletons converged on Jaes and with the help of the withering vision of the Giant King sent him back to the Tamilir temple. The other surviving skeletons, the sorceror, and a particularly speedy beastman showed Rohnan that he is going to have to grow a third arm and equip another shield if he doesn't want to get turned into a pincushion on a regular basis...

One Fist then unlocked the door and jumped into the portal while Mordrog rushed to activate a portal. Jaes stayed in town safe from harm ready to rejoin the fight in the final level. Rohnan telported back and using his familiar teleported himself close enough to activate a second glyph. Mordrog was attacked ruthlessly by the remaining skeleton force but managed to teleport back to town just one wound from being knocked out while Rohnan also was able to teleport away on his side of the level.

Finally, the heroes had reached the location of the rumor. Tune in next time....

9/18/09 Mission Games

As you can see from the photo the Evil Overlord not only has brilliant schemes for the demise of the heroes of Terrinoth but also has a knack for friendly train games like Ticket to Ride winning the TTR tournament at Mission Games. In this Mission Games edition of the Descent Campaign the heroes reached the final level of the dungeon rumored to imprison the kidnapped twins from the city of Riverwatch. Yeah, I know it sounds really despicable but it gets even more strange. The twins were put under a spell by an evil sorcerer that made him able to split himself into two entities to double his strength and damage in combat. However, this twisted idea didn't do anything about his cowardice, in fact, it may have amplified it.

The heroes ran through the first area taking out skeletons and a heck hound (renamed during Mission Games). Next, they went into Area 2 and faced a couple of Ogres, more skeletons, a master Beastman, and another heck hound. Lucky for the heroes the Overlord was in the midst of a TTR tourney so they had a lot of time to strategize how best to approach the situation. They made flowcharts and ran Monte Carlo simulations on weapons combinations and came to the conclusion that Ronan disarm his shields and make two swings at the heck hound with an ax. This was successful and the heck hound thrown back into heck where he belongs.

From there, rather than clean up the room the heroes went into the third area of the dungeon and met the sorcerer and the kidnapped twins. After Mordrog and Jaes returned from town they put the hurt on the sorcerer and his two pet giant spiders. The cowardly sorcerer decided to run, fearing he would be reported and put on the Megan's law website. His skeletons tried to come in and attack instead but Jaes produced an amazing feat and protected the group. Ronan swapped places with his shadow soul and tried to clear the path to the exit and after a feat of stealthiness he still fell to the skeleton arrows. Finally, the heroes eliminated the threats and made it out with the twin brothers safe and sound.

Heroes 43 OL 57 (Total 100, exactly half way through copper)

Just some town action this week. The Evil Overlord razed the city of Nerekhal and built a recycled temple of waves in its place. How Eco friendly of him? Lady Eliza Farrow joined the rank of lieutenants. One fist trained at greyhaven how to fly over pits and foil the Overlord plans. The rest of the heroes stocked up on potions and healed from the last battle. Ronan got a set of throwing hatchets that will throw the enemies into a Daze.

Up next is an Outdoor encouter with the Hammer Bros.

October 6, 2009: Roland's House

After purchasing weapons, healing up, and purchasing gobs of potions the heroes traveled to Tamalir to take on Merick and try and reduce the Overlord's lieutenant force by one. However they were ambushed on the way by the Hammer Bros. These fierce warriors had been scared of the Hammer Bros since their childhoods when they played Super Mario Bros. and got killed every single time they faced the dreaded pair unable to compensate for the tricky pattern of their hammers. Now it would be worse because there was no reset button....

The encounter ended up being somewhat of a wash since the Ogre Twins succeeded killing One Fist for four conquest but then being cut down in the end by the remaining heroes...once they woke up. Jaes and Rohnan both snored through three or four rounds of vicious and loud combat. Their comrades where being tossed around like ragdolls but these two just wrapped their pillows around their heads and rolled over. Once the entire group was awake they made quick work of the Ogres with Mordrog leading the way doing massive damage and Jaes poking the nearly lifeless corpses with his cute little stick to make them stay dead.

Upon arriving at Tamilir the heroes lost their nerve as they took a first really close look at the power of Merick and his minions. They wisely spent a week shopping and then noticed that Merick's little sister was within range and also a much easier target-- so they went back north.

----------------
One has to wonder at the courage of these "adventuresome explorers" who seem to like to just walk the same highway over and over and over....
----------------

Anyway, to continue the story, the heroes safely traversed the dangerous road they were so familiar with and arrived in Grey Haven attacking the Overlord's weakest lieutenant. Rohnan had made a weapon's trade in Tamalir that the Overlord had mocked at first but which proved to be his lieutenant's undoing. With mighty force the companions marched upstream a raging river cutting down Hellhounds and a Naga before they even had a chance to react. A master Banespider jumped out of nowhere, however, webbing and poisoning Mordrog before leaping back to safety. The spider wasn't safe from Jaes' flames however and sizzled to charred death in the next instant. Then sly Rohnan slipped up next to Eliza and WEBBED her in place with his new weapon. The Overlord's jaw hit the floor and Eliza's plans of escape were thwarted as the companions hacked her to pieces as she stood immobile --gaining another four conquest.

Cheered by their perceived victory, they had no idea what was really in store for them. From everywhere at once they heard a whispery voice proclaim,

"Everything is proceeding as I have forseen..."

And before they knew it they were shrouded in mists that restricted line of sight to just a few paces. They had killed the weakest lieutenant and now they were to be punished by the mightiest, K'ar A'mog. The awesome fear and power of this lieutenant were added to by two demons, and a terrifying group of sorcerers. The companions were trapped and all were ruthlessly knocked out except for Mordrog who barely slipped away with his life...

Overlord: 89 conquest
Heroes: 52 conquest

Thursday March 18th

Roland(Overlord), Cates(Rohnan), Stewart(Mordrog), Tony(One Fist), Mark(Jaes)

The heroes entered the second level of the legendary dungeon near Fool's Rapids. This floor was special because it required the companions to split up and head in opposite directions in order to be able to move on. Instead of killing the skeleton boss for a runekey, instead the heroes had to activate two switches in different rooms of the level at the same time.

The heroes' opening move was...predictably consistent. Jaes moved forward to cook anything he could with his "cone of fire" with Mordrog and One Fist doing mop up duty. The three of them were able to take out a skeleton and an ogre this way before the poor creatures even had a turn to say "Boo!". What about Rohnan, you ask? Of course he took off running with his gazillion movement points and started sucking up coins and glyphs.

Unfortunately for him he moved a bit too far beyond the line of sight of his companions and found himself amidst massive stone columns that prevented him from seeing what might be lurking and found himself swarmed and killed by a horde of kobolds. Nobody said anything, but they all were thinking that it is a bit embarrassing to be offed by kobolds...

Anyway, the skeleton boss came forward and plugged a few arrows into One Fist wounding him severely. He paid for it in the end though as both One Fist and Mordrog killed him and his newest skeleton escort. One of the other skeletons retreated, however. During this time Jaes and the newly revived Rohnan made their way over to the other side of the dungeon to claim a treasure chest, activate another glyph, and pick up more coins. Rohnan barely said excuse me as he shoved past Jaes to do all of that in one turn.

Jaes and Rohnan ended up battling with two master kobolds and a deep elf. The kobolds were eventually killed but Rohnan left the skirmish badly wounded. Anticipating that Jaes and Mordrog would unlock the door he ran as fast as he could toward the exit. Meanwhile the last skeleton and a master deep elf were able to finish off One Fist and Mordrog entered the other switch room to step on the kobolds.

The switches were finally flipped and the door unlocked. Unfortunately for the heroes the overlord was able to spawn in one last group of skeletons who ambushed Rohnan before he could get through the door and sent him to the temple instead. In the end, Rohnan came back a third time, everyone else stepped into nearby glyphs and he ran through the exit to finish the level.

The heroes were ahead during most of the level until things went bad for them in the end.

Heroes 9 conquest
Overlord 15 conquest

Overall

Heroes: Approx: 89 conquest
Overlord: Approx: 160 conquest

I bought it and let it sit on my shelf untouched for a few months. My friend who had all the other Descent expansions except this one couldn't find it in the stores. He also helped me do some work on my house so I thought it would be a good idea to give him the game for helping me. We are still waiting to try it out.

Bought this (Along with core Descent, though have played that) as a "OMG Must have"...

When I knew I would be moving to a new state in less than 5 months.

Sits unplayed for 15 months or so.

This game is what actually brought our gaming group together - we decided to play through an entire campaign of Descent... and it went so well that the Hero's were laying waste to the Beastman Overlord before Bronze was even over. We stopped as Silver was beginning because it was apparent that our party was completely overpowering anything the Overlord threw our way.

I'm not disappointed though - I loved Descent but the most important thing it did was bring our group together, and now every week I get to play fun boardgames and card games!

Matt bought this and overlorded a campaign.
There were four of us playing the heroes: me as Steelhorns, Steve as Grey Ker, Glenn as Runehand, and Mike as ??? another mage.

We only managed two levels of the first dungeon in the time available. The first level we did well but the second was slaughter.

I have high hopes for this but we rarely play Descent. I don't like the 4v1 aspect, I'd much prefer a team game.

This is an old Summer favorite. We have had great times crawling through dungeons and crushing monsters. I am hoping we can work our way through this campaign this Summer.

Game is opened but unplayed and unpunched. Impulse buy, I just don't have a regular-enough group to play.

I will cover shipping to Continental US, first $10 elsewhere.
